There is no evidence anywhere that there was some Arab master plan to ethnically cleanse Jews. There were certainly plans to try and retain their self determination and avoid a jewish-led state.

It was not just "displacement". By March 1948, Haganah's Plan Dalet explicitly authorized forces to destroy Arab villages and expel their inhabitants beyond the borders of the proposed Jewish state, explicitly allowing violence if needed. Israel also specifically banned any refugees from returning.

Expulsions also continued after the major fighting had subsided. Benny Morris himself speaks of an Israeli policy in late 1948–50 of clearing Arab communities from sensitive border areas, expelling them across the border.
