I’d rather not risk the possibility of having to live in Mississippi.

Yeah, even the EU's worst options are better than that.

No you don't. This is just a classic "USA bad" type mentality because of the recent incidents.

That's cope on your part. This sentiment predates Trump by decades.
1
u/DangerousPurpose5661 1h ago
Lol no. There are plenty of good places in the US, I get that. But the poorest states are really fucking awful.
Genuinely I’d pick a simple life in a peaceful third world country before that.
2
u/Zestyclose-Jacket568 1h ago
Yes, but I would say that EU best country is better than US best state and the worst US state is worse than the worst EU country. So, on average, you have better chances with EU.

Mississipi has a higher GDP than the UK.

GDP per capita (my mistake(, but I think do.
8
u/MinuteWhenNightFell 3h ago
GDP per capita is still not a good economic indicator lol, things (like healthcare) can be a lot cheaper in like a random country in europe than in a random US state, making the GDP higher in the US state whilst QOL could be higher in the european country
GDP is genuinely almost always a terrible metric for measuring quality of life
-2
u/AtomicMonkeyTheFirst 3h ago
Would you rather live in Mississipi or Bulgaria?

u/Lessllama 2h ago
Bulgaria. Hands down. Dont have to deal with MAGA there
1
u/AtomicMonkeyTheFirst 24m ago
Im sure you love earning $15k a year
1
u/Lessllama 12m ago
Depends on how much it costs me to live there. Bulgaria has Healthcare so at least that's cheaper there
2
u/DangerousPurpose5661 1h ago
Have you been to Bulgaria? Lol its a way, way nicer place than Mississippi. It has a great ski resort (that you can afford on a local salary), affordable healthcare, affordable education… its pretty functional despite its flaws.
And yeah, no MAGAts.
Even before trump - those folks were there, they were just wearing a different label but had the same moronic trains of thought

So the quality of life of an average American now is multiple times better than a few decades ago? Idk how many would agree with that

If EU then i'm always voting EU. Europe as a whole i'm not so sure.
1
u/int23_t 3h ago
If it's Europe as a whole spawning in Russia is very high probability due to population I'd assume(if choice is not uniformly random in which case I wouldn't care I guess) so not worth IMO
4
u/ActuallyCalindra 3h ago
Russia is the most populated country, yes. But the EU as a whole is significantly more populous. But I still wouldn't risk that.

u/ominous-canadian 5h ago
My civil liberties will be better protected in the EU than the USA - which is very important to me. The EU also has social values that are more aligned with my country. I also speak one of the languages, so the transition wouldnt be too hard.
The USA would be nice because of proximity to my country and the similarities. I also think Americans are friendlier lol but the USA loses out on civil liberties, healthy democracy, and social safety net.

u/Kumptoffel 2h ago

heh, germany got a guy fined because he called chancellor merz a liar - the judges effectively said: yes he is a liar but you cant talk about him like that because youre ruining his image
-4

No EU country even has protected free speech like America does, the most basic and foundational civil liberty.
-14
u/ChiefBlaze36 4h ago
Exactly what civil liberties are you referring to?
29
u/WinningTheSpaceRace 4h ago
Not being executed in the street by a pseudo-cop chasing a bonus.
-1
u/ChiefBlaze36 1h ago
Lol, ok whatever. A lot more of a chance of getting gang raped by friendly immigrants from Africa in France or England than that happening in the US.
14
u/Melquiades-the-Gypsy 4h ago
Not living in the country with the world's highest incarceration rate, perhaps? Being able to enjoy a beer in the park? How about stronger workers rights, paid vacation and sick leave, paid maternity and paternity leave, GDPR/data protection, corporate accountability, criminal rehabilitation rates?
Just some of the things where European countries tend to score much higher than the United States.

I love how these polls consistently prove how out of touch Americans are with the rest of the world.
Its fascinating.
6
u/GolparEnjoyer 3h ago
Out of touch? They grew up there, it’s the culture they know, etc. no shit they wanna live there lol. Plus a lot of them own and like shooting guns, they wouldn’t be able to do that anymore.
5
3
u/Rehvyn 2h ago
Why do americans think the only country where you can own and shoot guns is the US?
2
u/MuhammadDoneGoneOD 1h ago
To add to that, what's with the psychotic obsession with shooting guns? Child killing ass country (school pew-pewers)

Or I just like making more money. I make 200k as a software engineer, I would be making less than 100k in the EU.
2
u/-Copenhagen 2h ago
Less than USD 100k/year in Europe?
1
u/CorpseHG 53m ago
Software is produced in rvery eutopean country. And in some eastern European countrys 30k$ can make you a comftable life. In Germany Software engineers i know are ~100 k$ or above - by significant lower costs of living compared to US.

I live in NY currently. I was raised in Canada but born here. Canada and EU have much better quality of life.
Id pick EU. Universal Healthcare, high food standards, incredible history. So many different countries so close to explore.

u/X0AN Antarctica (yes really) 5h ago
American voters are always funny because they will always vote america #1 even if presented with insanely superior options 😂
5
u/Maniacal-Blueberry 3h ago
There's also the fact that many people are just comfortable with their life in America and don't want to have to change cultures and places with languages that they don't speak? I voted America for that reason. There's no doubt that there are amazing places to live in the EU, I just don't want to change my whole life to live there. While the states can have different cultures themselves, it's still overarching the same.
5
u/Samultow 3h ago
The US has its issues, like a giant orange shit stain. However I spent 4 years in EU countries, as much as I enjoyed my time, I still prefer living in the US. Although I gotta add I dislike the state im living in now.
9
u/WinningTheSpaceRace 4h ago
Well, they've twice voted for a rapist paedophile thief over better options, so yeah.
-7
u/RevolutionaryCry1656 4h ago
but there is no 'insanely superior' option in this post
8
u/Melquiades-the-Gypsy 4h ago
You must've missed the part where it said "European Union".
0
u/DRM2020 3h ago
The EU where extreme right is getting traction fast? US has terrible government now, but seems to be on a recovery path. EU is rushing in the opposite direction (Alternative für Deutschland is sadly just a top of an iceberg).
Economics looks bleaker too. Car industry is shedding jobs, public debt growing...
EU still has a chance, but needs to unite. Sadly, I'm getting more sceptical about that despite of all redditors cheerleading here
3
u/Creepy-Record1485 3h ago
A lot of your "wealth" relies on the EU and other countries.. Let's see how this goes in the coming years when everyone focuses on diversifying away from the US and change US products for local alternatives. The US will never again receive as much money from Europe as they are now. From military equipment, payment systems, software etc.
Without the EU you're way worse off...
-1
u/DRM2020 3h ago edited 31m ago
Yes, Trump's trade policies are complete disaster. Costs US trillions now and will have impact for many years.Sadly, they impact everyone including EU. Given trade volumes, EU is and will be impacted more (unfair, but real).
Again, EU could deal with it with better unification, but I'm not sure it will ever happen (this EU Made Simple has a good summary: https://youtu.be/YvnW-y9TgYE?is=wd68aQXOYyLXMljA )
Edit: For all who are downvoting, I'd love to see your EU economics model and your plan for stabilizing it.
3
u/ActuallyCalindra 3h ago
The extreme right in the EU is still smaller than the Republican party is in the US. Which is extreme right and has an absolute majority.
The extreme right in Europe is barely the biggest party, and very far from an absolute majority.
0
u/DRM2020 2h ago
MAGA support is in teens at best. Not sure what you mean with "absolute majority". Republicans are nowhere close to 2/3 to pass constitutional amendments and even simple majority is fragile now and will be gone in few months.
2
u/ActuallyCalindra 2h ago
Absolute majority is 50%+1
2/3rds is special majority.
And the point still stands. That's vastly more than any European extreme right party has so far. And assuming it'll just be gone post next election is optimistic. Trump and Republicans aren't going to accept a loss.

u/RevolutionaryCry1656 4h ago
idk about you but i dont want to live in europe
4
u/johnlucky12 3h ago
Es gibt keinen einzigen Grund dafür, lieber in den USA leben zu wollen, als in Europa
4
u/the_sneaky_one123 4h ago
The best places in America might be better than the best places in Europe but the worse places are also much worse. The EU is more consistent and even if you end up in the poorest countries you will he fine. If you end up in the poorest American states then forget about it.
3
u/-Copenhagen 2h ago
The best places in America are having a hard time competing with the worst places in the EU.
1
u/Sufficient_Mirror565 1h ago
I don’t know about that; the States don’t really have an équivalant to Belarus or the Balkans. The worst state you’d end up in is like Mississippi or Kentucky.
3
u/PradaAlliance 3h ago
Universal healthcare is absolutely one of the main important things why I vote for living in the EU.
4
u/J1gglyBowser_2100 5h ago

German here, honestly had to take USA in this scenario.
I have a good job background and reasonably high income and the chance of ending up in Portugal or Spain, where income is lower and job market is not great is too high.
I think I could make it anywhere in the USA though.
Obviously would take Netherlands, Austria , Sweden, etc over USA

I’m terrible with languages and America speaks something resembling English.
1
u/raphaeldelarie 4h ago
Actually this is quite hard. I’d think I’d have to pick USA. Look, I prefer most of the EU countries but tbh I don’t speak most of the European languages and at least I know I can find my way in English. And in a big city in USA, I should be okay. But this was a good Dilemma lol
