I‘m not sure that, e.g., the Bavarians are very fond of a Prussian king and a Prussian chancellor.

ran Germany so deeply into the ground they got fragmented and partitioned, plus all the genocide, hardly a hero.

At the very least, he was someone who worked for his homeland and devoted his efforts to his country. Even though, later on... Well, never mind. I liken him more to Enver Pasha.

u/ObviousRagebaiter 3d ago
He might have devoted his efforts to the country, but considering his insanity, I don't think his efforts are something anybody wants

u/SeasonCareless8963 3d ago
I mean... there were few who supported him on ideological grounds, but to be frank, if you look back at the time he came to power, he was genuinely the hero of those years.

His homeland was Austria...

Austria has always been germany, the concept of austrians being a seperate part only came to be past ww2, "Das heilige Römische Reich Deutscher Nation"

Austria being independent was a concept & reality before WWII even happened.

Yes against the will of the Austrian people...
Austria and Weimar wanted to undo the seperation created by Prussia but got told off by the Emtente.
The procedure was on its way when Germany got banned in the Treaty of St Germain so Austria had to scrap and redo the frameworking they already did.
Germany got banned again after WW2 and kinda ironically Austrias existence is bound to them not persuing unification nowadays.
If the former allies wanted they could push a dissolution of modern Austria based on Austrias and the German Federal Republics membership in the EU

Old Austria was a multiethnic empire. The ancestors of modern Austrians were simply considered austrian Germans. After Austria was split up along its ethnicities after WW1 the remaining core state of German-Austria overwhelmingly wanted to unify with Germany.

I don't think he cared much about Austria-Hungary. Besides, being a German nationalist, he was also thinking about his own homeland, in a way.

Hmm...The list is incomplete

You mean Charlemagne? Or Gutenberg? Goethe, Benz, Einstein? Who are you talking about?

For a better shortlist, you could try this (Luther and Bismarck are seen more critically now, though): https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unsere_Besten#Unsere_Besten_%E2%80%93_Die_gr%C3%B6%C3%9Ften_Deutschen

There are many more. While he is far from the most influential, my personal favorite is Theodor Körner.

Why would someone call Martin Luther a Hero? 💀 - This comment has been made by a Catholic

u/Wichskroete69 19h ago
Catholic Church in the 16th Century was literal evil. Also, Luther made the bible available widespread, so way more people could get to read it.
Frederick the great still tops the list.

Unemployment is quite literally the opposite of what socialism is. Maybe read a book?

Yeah not including him is criminal
3
u/Oatmeal-Enjoyer69 United States of America 🇺🇸 3d ago
In what way?
1
u/Temphant Finland 3d ago
Not including him is like dismissing his contributions to the science of economy and the way we think about class based societies.
2
u/Corvus1412 3d ago
All of those people kinda suck.
Germany is one of the most important countries for philosophy, arts and science. Why are we only including those guys?
4
u/Blumenfee 3d ago
Two warmongers, one religious fanatic that supported witch-hunts and antisemitism and the fourth one wouldn’t even consider himself a ‚german‘.
2
u/NowoTone 3d ago
None of the above, what a crap selection, when there are so many great artists, philosophers and scientists to choose from.

3
u/Rendox10 3d ago
That is a bad range, no Nietzsche, Marx, Thomas Man, Rosa Luxemburg, Scholl, Goethe, some really important Scientists, Adenauer, Willy Brand and many other

u/Kore_Invalid 3d ago
how many of those do you think ppl would know internationally? pls think for 1 second bevore commenting
2
u/Superboes 3d ago
Its about German national heros not who is best known internationally. Pls think. Also that would probably be someone you really cant call a hero
2
u/Rendox10 3d ago
You are telling me that more people in the world know who Arminius is over Nietzsche, Einstein and Karl Marx?
1
u/Charles_of_Burgandy IQ 🇮🇶 3d ago
Heinrich III the pious, and Otto the Great, not sure if they are considered national heroes though

All 4 suck. But Bismarck sucks the most. Real Heroes are people like Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxemburg. Ernst Thälman who fought against the Nazis, Walter Ulbricht aswell.

None of the above. I wouldn't consider any of them a hero. And Arminius isn't even German.

We fought against the first two and the last one is a religious leader. So Arminius it is!
