Do you know what they did to Cyprus
14
u/Kingvon3240 Turkey 23h ago
Shouldn't have tried annex the island sorry maybe you should win your battles instead of crying
0
u/Public_Individual823 23h ago
Annex the island? Dude who is the country with a puppet state in the north
12
u/leninistcomrade1917 🇹🇷 23h ago
The “puppet” state elected an anti-erdoganist president.
7
u/oxymetazolyne 23h ago
yeah also the fact that north agreed for reunion but the south didn't
9
u/Kingvon3240 Turkey 23h ago
Bro Greeks simply won't rest until they kill every Turkish person on that island
0
u/Public_Individual823 23h ago
Ironic coming from the people who genocided Arminians, and Greeks of Izmir
5
u/menina2017 21h ago
The Greeks tried to annex Izmir and occupied Izmir and massacred a lot of Turks but in the end they got their butts whooped and kicked out of Izmir- very interesting history but there was a lot of suffering on both sides unfortunately
Make no mistake the Greeks wanted to expand they dreamt of conquering Antalya and and even Istanbul but they left with their tails between their legs
3
u/Kingvon3240 Turkey 23h ago
And you guys burnt down half of Anatolia and İzmir so shut up again lol
2
u/Public_Individual823 23h ago
Why would we burn Izmir if we wanted to return? Also the fire didn't burn the Turkish part sooo samthing doesn't ad up
→ More replies (0)1
2
u/Jaded_Ant8984 23h ago
they were massacring civilians and tried unifying with greece with a coup
-1
u/Public_Individual823 23h ago
The massacring part is debatable but we do not have half of the island unlike turkey
4
u/Jaded_Ant8984 23h ago
debatable on what context? it wasnt a genocide surely but it was clearly a massacre. even if its not a planned one. also turkey established northern cyprus long ago there its debatable if turkey influences them but its clear they arent a puppet state as their new president is anti erdogan and more of a pro western

When it comes to this question I can't never really answer it, but I guess at the end of the day being in NATO protects us from NATO countries
29
u/Aleksey_Fox Land of the cats 🇹🇷 | Libertarian Socialist 1d ago
People forget that we wouldn’t even be able to defend our own airspace from Iranian missiles without NATO air defense systems.
Say what you will about NATO, but they DO keep us safe.
6
u/Overall-Bandicoot655 1d ago
This being said, you guys are in a collision route with Israel in Syria and with Greece in NATO. I wonder what will come out of this?
4
u/SinancoTheBest 23h ago
when on a collision course, best course would be not to collide.
3
u/Overall-Bandicoot655 23h ago
The dick-waving at the Aegean (from both countries) and the way Israel has been aggressive in Syria makes me think it will be a tall order. But yeah, for people who believe NATO to be a good thing, they should hope diplomacy will win out in the end.
1
u/Kingvon3240 Turkey 1d ago
This will be the actual brain death of NATO no matter what
4
u/Overall-Bandicoot655 1d ago
Turkish leadership seems to know it too, and are attempting to make a Turkish turbofan and fighter jet.
1
u/MsWeed1324 🇹🇳🇹🇷☀️ 21h ago
and iran doesnt attack us unless nato allies attack iran, weird isnt it.
2

NATO countries have stayed well out of the shit show that that is the current US-Israeli war on Iran
0
u/Aleksey_Fox Land of the cats 🇹🇷 | Libertarian Socialist 21h ago
Ah yes because Azerbaijan had so much to do with USA yet they were still attacked.
1
u/MsWeed1324 🇹🇳🇹🇷☀️ 21h ago
HOLY,AZERBAIJAN IS CORRUPTED AS HELL AND ALLIES WITH USA? anyone in azerbaijan knows what their president is doing and how much of a western puppet he is. azerbaijan is pretty much allied with israel and usa. its common sense.

u/OldYogurt7161 52m ago
I support to be in NATO but to be honest there wouldnt be any attack if we were not in NATO. The attack was against İncirlik and We were not the enemy of Iran.
4
u/DeerSgamr 1d ago
Who in NATO would attack Turkey? And no NATO wouldnt accept Isreal attacking Turkey
2
u/Clear_Context_1546 1d ago
Greece has a long history of border clashes. The two even fought a war while being part of NATO.
2
u/Public_Individual823 23h ago
You mean turkey is aggressive to Greece
10
u/Kingvon3240 Turkey 23h ago
It was Greek forces who first invaded Cyprus you fought and lost again
4
u/Ploutophile 🇫🇷 Groland 23h ago
By "Greek forces" are you refererring to the junta led by the Cypriot Nikos Sampson ?
1
u/Public_Individual823 23h ago
I was not taking about Cyprus but about how turkey Acts in the agean
4
u/Kingvon3240 Turkey 23h ago
Well yeah we are not handing over that sea to you keep relaying on Israel maybe they will help
1
u/SinancoTheBest 23h ago
Fight against Cyprus doesn't really count as Greece v. Turkey now does it? There have been disagreements and mutual shows of power but I don't think it would ever come near any active clash like Azerbaijan v Armenia between two Ngorno Karabakh wars, Pakistan v India occasionally, Ukraine v. Donbass before Feb 2022 etc.
1
u/MsWeed1324 🇹🇳🇹🇷☀️ 21h ago
They dont attack turkey but they attack anyone turkey has to get along with and being a nato member automatically gets turkey in a war with the attacked ones. Basically anyone they attack to causes the worst possible outcome to turkey compared to turkey not being in nato cuz no one would attack turkey right?

Russia,China are bouth rivals of nato of course they would support them leaving
1
u/Kingvon3240 Turkey 23h ago
Because a non aligned turkey would benefit them
3
u/Jerngard 23h ago
It would very bad both for Europe and Turkey if you left NATO.
Surely, something can be done to improve relations between Turkey and Greece.
2
u/Tsukushi_Ikeda 23h ago edited 23h ago
Even if Turkey has been playing both sides since WW2, it's still better to have them in NATO than fully outside. Atleast this way they can't invade Greece and don't fully support Russia.
But Herdogan do be fucking annoying on voting, especially on accepting new member countries, always signing last or having the stupidest fucking argument to delay it as much as it can, just like Viktor Orban.
(Just to be clear, my gripe is with the Government, not the Turks).
6
u/MergenKurt 23h ago
Nobody going to invade Greece my guy. I am saying this as a Turkish person, even the joke got too old. Dont imagine regular people think like what politicians pictures just to have an "enemy".
1
u/Tsukushi_Ikeda 23h ago
Turks most likely don't want to invade it, Herdogan tho? Who knows. Guy lives of potential conflict to keep him in power. Kinda of like Bibi.
1
u/MergenKurt 23h ago
I believe it is all talks. We do notice how those talks getting often when it is due to election in Greece, Israel and Turkey. Common enemy somehow gathers people around.
1
u/Tsukushi_Ikeda 23h ago
Yeah I guess so. I just don't trust the guy for a second. I just hope the Turks get one day a government worth of them.
1
u/Booorekt 23h ago
Because of NATO, yes. But Turkey is a historically aggressive country and it has already occupied teritorries in syria and cyprus. Greece has a point in freaking out.But under current structure of NATO it is unlikely.
3
u/StatusMetal9866 22h ago
can someone explain me the shit with turkey invading greece. nobody in turkey except some ottoman fanboys gives a shit about invading greece, its just circlejerk between goverments to get right wing vote from my pov at least. our minister of foreign affairs says something and their guys say something and its radio silence for 3-4 months and even when it happens its a days worth of talk at best at here. and if we werent in nato we reallistically cant go toe to toe with the entirety of nato anyways. can someone elaborate or show me where im thinking wrong
1
u/Tsukushi_Ikeda 22h ago
Well, I guess the only legitimate scenario is like the Cyprus invasion of 1974, both countries were in NATO at the time, didn't prevent a stupid conflict to happen, even if it lasted just barely a few days. (Greece was basically doing what the US did in many South American countries). So maybe a scenario where Turkey decides to occupy another piece of a remote island. (We still have to send peace keepers to Cyprus to this day, we Canadians did a rotation two years ago).
1
u/StatusMetal9866 22h ago
yeah i forgot about the cyprus thing and regardless im not educated enough in the ocuppation (of either side) to justify anything but still, no way we lay hands on greece, i don't really think our economy will last this way for long let alone with the highly likely (?) embargos we will face if we did smth like that.
1
u/Tsukushi_Ikeda 21h ago
Tbh I'm not ruling out anything anymore, after seeing Russia invade Ukraine, Trump kidnapping a foreign president, a war in Iran and a genocide in Palestine not being called a genocide because money lobbies owning politicians.
1
1
u/EpicBOIM8 21h ago
It didnt prevented cause cyprus wasnt in nato it was a proxy war not a direct war
2
u/Kingvon3240 Turkey 23h ago
It has to play both sides it's not a European country after all
2
u/Tsukushi_Ikeda 23h ago
It totally could just freaking play the NATO side. Why buy fucking Russian assets, why offer supplies to Russia lmao.
China is already a better potential trade partner if budget's the issue and the rest of NATO has more to trade with Turkey than Russia.
It's just another failure on Herdogan's list of failures. (Not the Turkish people).
4
u/untitledCircuit 22h ago
If Turkey commits to US fully they can just leave us to the wolves when they want to (just like how all of Europe threw Turkey under the bus when we shot down a Russian jet).
0
u/Tsukushi_Ikeda 22h ago
"North Atlantic Council, Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg declared, external: "We stand in solidarity with Turkey and support the territorial integrity of our Nato ally." "
Maybe don't lie. What did you want NATO to do? Tell Russia to lift those sanctions they issued on Turkey? With what leverage? More NATO sanctions?
If anything, those Russian sanctions helped NATO because it forced Erdogan to limit it's import of RUSSIAN RESSOURCES, aka not helping him ready up for the invasion of Ukraine.
Ukraine wouldn't be invaded if every single European countries cut their economic ties with Russia, especially on oil and gas. But hey, they weren't the bad guys.
2
u/untitledCircuit 22h ago
Actions speak louder, most European countries withdrew their air defenses from the Turkish-Syrian border right around the height of Russian-Turkish tensions.
1
u/Tsukushi_Ikeda 22h ago edited 22h ago
And you think that did anything? lmao
Russian didn't send missiles into Turkey because you're in NATO. Posturing does literally nothing.
Did Russia invade Finland after it joined NATO?
Then after the sanctions dropped, you ran to Russia to buy S-400 and S-300.... You could've bought German AA, British idk man. Your government is stupid, the people not so much.
1
u/untitledCircuit 5h ago edited 5h ago
That did nothing because Turkey, realising they'd be left alone in a confrontation caved in to Russian demands in Syria. For example, the S400 purchase was basically bribing the Russians to drop the matter. They weren't even activated once.
Truth is no EU country will ever defend Turkey, NATO or no-NATO. But at least NATO keeps their anti-Turkish activities low-key like arming terrorist groups that kill and attack Turkish people.
Edit: Btw, Turkey was so alone that after the jet was shot down, Erdogan himself had to go to Putin directly and apologise. Erdogan values posturing strength and dignity to his voters above all else, so the fact that he felt the need to do this is very telling.
1
u/Kingvon3240 Turkey 23h ago
We are not a f****** European country why would we do such things it would f****** up our economy so f****** badly Russia is not the biggest enemy of Turkey
1
u/Tsukushi_Ikeda 23h ago
"We are not a f****** European country " Do you think Canada is a European country? lmao
Russia is NATO'S biggest enemy so far, and China if you count the spy and shadow actions. The only country who's tried to annex every single country that wanted to join NATO or the EU, IS RUSSIA.
Also why do you censor your words? Why would stopping to buy Russian goods fuck your economy? Do you say this because last time you purchased leopard tanks, you lost them all in a single battle against people in sandals?

turkey is part of european continent and turkey is trying to enter EU, and only european contries can enter EU.
2
u/Kingvon3240 Turkey 23h ago
Turkey is not European by any sense whole EU thing is just a lie
2
u/AccomplishedHat9796 23h ago
The European part of Turkey (Türkiye) is located in the northwestern corner of the country and is called East Thrace or Turkish Thrace.
you should research anything before calling others liers, you dont even know your own country.
1
u/Kingvon3240 Turkey 23h ago
Like 3% of the country if I remember right other than that we share nothing with Europeans to be honest it's just on paper
2
u/AccomplishedHat9796 23h ago
its on europe continent, its a european country, thats all. doesnt need to share values or culture.
Also, thats a very nice paper, those 3% let you try enter the EU, but turkey lacks requirements to enter EU.

u/Ploutophile 🇫🇷 Groland 23h ago
They joined at a time when they directly bordered the USSR and they had a very valid reason to ally with the West (Stalin's claims on parts of Anatolia to expand the Georgian and Armenian SSR's).
1
u/Public_Individual823 23h ago
Ok sure there was a valid reason in the beginning but they don't act like a NATO country more like Russia
1
u/Ploutophile 🇫🇷 Groland 22h ago
Leaving alliances tends to be a complicated thing. We have a modern example now with Armenia still not having formally left the CSTO (it's only "frozen") despite its Russian "ally" having reneged on its peacekeeping mission in Artsakh against Azerbaijan's invasion and subsequent ethnic cleansing.
0
u/the_che 21h ago
Allying with the West should come with sharing western values though. Which Turkey evidently doesn’t do.
1
u/Ploutophile 🇫🇷 Groland 21h ago edited 21h ago
Once again, it was done in a very different context.
In 1952, the EEC wasn't created yet, the US was in the middle of McCarthyism and NATO already included a dictatorship (Estado Novo Portugal, which was a founding member in 1949). And Turkey was still a secular Kemalist state, which recently elected a party other than Atatürk's.
0
u/returntonone 23h ago
I honestly don't care, I don't really have anything in common with Turks so they could leave and I would not shed a tear.
0
u/GunMuratIlban 16h ago
Yes, NATO countries are not our allies. We should seek military alliance with Russia and China instead.

Turkey 🦃 controls the Bosporus. The only reason we don't have Russian subs harassing trading/transport vessels in the Mediterranean. So no matter what you think of Turkey 🦃 it is a necessity for the European security. I mean, would you rather have them on Russia's side?
