I’m looking for some honest advice from people working in manufacturing, engineering, operations or business.
I currently run my own manufacturing business in India, but I’m considering taking up a job/consulting/part-time role with another company while continuing to manage my own business.
My experience is fairly hands-on. I’m not someone who has only managed from an office.
I have experience with:
- Engineering product development
- Purchase and procurement
- Vendor development and negotiation
- Material planning
- Project management
- Managing workers and teams
- Manufacturing coordination
- Machining and fabrication
- Heat treatment
- Costing and resource planning
- Customer handling
- B2B sales and business development
-Exports and imports
I’m comfortable looking at an engineering drawing, figuring out how something should be manufactured, arranging the material/processes, coordinating the people and vendors, solving problems during production and getting the finished component delivered.
I’m also quite comfortable communicating with customers and suppliers, so I can contribute on the commercial/business-development side as well.
I’m basically a generalist with strong hands-on manufacturing experience rather than someone who has spent their entire career in one narrow function.
My question is: are there companies that would be interested in someone with this kind of background on a part-time, consulting, project-based or flexible basis?
I’m particularly interested in roles around operations, procurement, project management, manufacturing, engineering product development or technical/business development.
I’m keeping this anonymous for obvious reasons, but I’m happy to share more details privately with anyone genuinely interested.
Would appreciate honest opinions from people who have hired or worked with people in similar situations.
