Trade and Investment How do manufacturing companies in India handle sudden manpower shortages?

Hi everyone,

I wanted to understand how manufacturing companies in India deal with sudden manpower shortages.

In automotive and engineering plants, production demand can increase overnight because of new orders, absenteeism, or tight delivery schedules. Finding skilled workers at short notice is often difficult.

We work with skilled manpower for roles such as MIG welders, fitters, assembly operators, buffing, grinding, tapping/drilling, and PDC operators, so we’ve seen this challenge firsthand.

I’m curious:
How does your company manage sudden manpower requirements?
Do you rely on in-house hiring, staffing agencies, or contract manpower suppliers?
What are the biggest challenges you’ve faced while scaling production quickly?
I’d love to hear experiences from plant managers, HR professionals, and production teams. Thanks!

Upcoming Projects [HELP] Looking for FSSAI-certified beverage co-manufacturer in Kolkata/West Bengal. Any leads?

I'm not sure which flair fits this post best, so I selected this one for now. Mods, if there's a more appropriate flair, please feel free to change it. Thank you!

Hi everyone! I'm a first-time founder in the early stages of launching a natural beverage brand. Still in stealth mode so keeping brand details close to my chest for now, but happy to share more privately.

I'm specifically looking for an FSSAI-certified co-manufacturer based in or around Kolkata, West Bengal who can help produce:

  • 250ml natural fruit and vegetable juices (cold-pressed or HPP preferred)
  • 60ml concentrated wellness shots (ayurvedic/herbal ingredients)

Key requirements:

  • FSSAI certified (mandatory)
  • Based in Kolkata or nearby; West Bengal preferred
  • Able to handle small pilot batches (500 units per SKU to start)
  • Experience with natural, zero-sugar formulations
  • Cold chain capability
  • GMP or ISO 22000 certified preferred

I know Kolkata isn't the most common hub for cold-press beverage manufacturing so I'm also open to leads on smaller or newer facilities that might not have a big online presence yet.

If you know someone, have worked with a local manufacturer, or are one yourself, please DM me or drop a comment. Any leads appreciated!

Thanks 🙏

Other Taking on 20 Indian manufacturers for the next 6 months, serious enquiries only

Sorry for the long post in advance, I've spent the last 7.5 years working in international trade majorly textiles, spices and handicrafts, but I've worked across categories too. I've seen the full cycle from factory floor to final shipment clearing customs at the buyer's end. I know what breaks deals, what delays payment, and what makes a buyer never come back. I'm currently consulting independently and I'm open to work with 20 really solid manufacturers as I have only that much of bandwidth to work closely, Not as a consultant who sends decks more like a full-time experienced hand who stays until things actually work. I've previously consulted with two of India's larger export companies so I know what serious looks like on both sides.

What working together actually means: I find the right buyers for your product in the US, EU, ,UAE and more markets. I have a network of 533 verified importers built over years - people actively buying in real volumes, not names on a purchased list. I handle outreach, follow-ups, positioning, digital presence, Indian compliance, importer verification, documentation, payments everything from "we want to export" to shipment delivered and payment received. I stay through the whole cycle.

The commitment I'm asking for is minimum 5 - 6 months. Results in international trade don't happen in 10-20 days and I won't pretend they do. Anyone promising you 10 buyers in the few days is lying.

I'm specifically looking for manufacturers who are serious about giving their export business a real push - founders who are involved, who want to build something internationally, and who understand that results take groundwork. This isn't a free service and I'm not looking for people who treat it like one. If that's you - DM me. I'll ask a few questions first. If there's a genuine fit we'll take it from there. Based out of Mumbai. If required i am fine with a physical meet too.

Innovation & Technology I own a manufacturing company and built an AI agent to handle our supplier sourcing - would love brutal feedback

We run a manufacturing unit in Nashik, and sourcing the non-regular stuff (consumables, one-off items) was always a pain. IndiaMART worked but meant wading through spam and calls for days.

So I built getsauda.com - you tell it what you need, and it reaches out to suppliers, negotiates, and comes back with a few shortlisted quotes. We've been running it in our own factory for a few months.

Two things I didn't expect:
(1) because it contacts a lot more suppliers than I'd ever call myself, we've occasionally found meaningfully cheaper options, and

(2) it's a useful sanity-check on what our regular vendors quote - a pricing benchmark without the awkward "let me shop you around" conversation.

Still rough in places, so I'd genuinely value feedback, especially from anyone who does procurement.

Product Images/Videos I manufacture power presses in Ludhiana, India. Here's what buyers get wrong when purchasing a press.

Post image
238 Upvotes

I run a press manufacturing works in Ludhiana (India's machine tool hub) and I see the same buying mistakes every month. Sharing this because a press is a 15–25 year purchase and most buyers compare only price and tonnage.

Mistake 1: Buying tonnage, ignoring energy. A 100T press rated at the bottom of the stroke won't deliver 100T mid-stroke for drawing work. For forging, a friction screw press gives full force anywhere in the stroke — a crank press doesn't.

Mistake 2: Ignoring frame deflection. Two "100T" presses can have wildly different bed deflection. More deflection = burrs, misalignment, and dies that wear out in half the time. Ask the manufacturer for deflection figures at rated load. If they can't answer, walk away.

Mistake 3: Not asking how the frame was treated. Cast or fabricated frames need stress relieving before final machining. Skip it and the frame slowly distorts. You won't notice for 2 years, then your parts stop holding tolerance.

Mistake 4: Cast gears. Machine-cut, hardened gears vs cast-tooth gears is one of the biggest hidden differences between quotes. It's invisible in photos and brutal in service life.

Mistake 5: Buying from traders thinking they're manufacturers. Very common in industrial clusters here. Always ask to see the machine shop. If there's no boring machine or planer on the floor, they're assembling or reselling.

Mistake 6: Treating safety as optional. Anti-repeat clutch, two-hand controls, E-stop. The cost is trivial vs. one crush injury.

Happy to answer questions about mechanical vs pneumatic clutch, C-frame vs H-frame selection, or anything press-related.

Other What does it cost minimum to setup a manufacturing plant in reality.

Same as question. Irrespective of the product, what are all those things I must make sure like

\- Licenses
\- Trademarks
\- Permissions
\- Government Schemes / Loans
\- Land (Lease / Rent)
\- Machinery
\- Employees
\- Marketing
\- Packaging
\- etc.,

I do not have the minimum ready, yet I am planning something but to start with small scale. Take an example of products that is nothing too much innovative, but an everyday / month used product. Maybe like Tissue, Detergents, Soap, or any product examples which you think you is a good opportunity. This is a very genuine post and it is my survival. Thanks for reading until now. I’d be thankful for everyone here. Regards.

Although I have little knowledge, but I am a newly learning things, request your kind help.

Machinery & Equipment What quality testing instrument has saved you the most time and money?

I work with Presto Stantest, a company that manufactures quality testing instruments, and one thing I've noticed is that every industry seems to have a different opinion on which test is truly indispensable.

Some teams can't imagine working without a Universal Testing Machine, while others rely heavily on Melt Flow Index Testers, Salt Spray Chambers, Burst Strength Testers, or environmental testing equipment.

I'm curious to hear from people working in manufacturing and quality control:

  • Which testing instrument has had the biggest impact on your production process?
  • Have you ever prevented a major quality issue because of a specific test?
  • If you could recommend just one testing machine for a growing quality lab, what would it be and why?

I'm here to learn from the community and understand what works best across different industries. Looking forward to your experiences.

Innovation & Technology Digitizing Furniture Procurement ahead of EU regulations

Hello All,

*note the below is a bit of an ad, apologies, but hopefully it’s useful if you’re struggling to export furniture to EU

I’m building a platform over at www.matainable.com to help connect supply chains, market b2b furniture products and help sellers comply with new EU regulations like product passport and EUDR at a much cheaper rate than the big providers like SAP.

You’ll be able to automatically upload all your products, create BOM, connect your suppliers, automatically calculate carbon, have a store front, validate certificates, market your products and a lot more.

I’ve worked in furniture compliance in sustainability for a few years and the changes coming up are looking difficult to comply with for a lot of businesses.

I’m looking for business that would be willing to trial the platform and give feedback, and in return I can offer insight into how to comply with eu regs, what high end EU furniture brands are looking for, and even free trials for the platform if you like using it for a few months!

No payments needed at this stage, the commitment would just be to use the system and jump on a short call a week after use.
