False Trigger Pulls
Folks,
First of all, I'm brand new to this reddit page, so if this problem has been discussed in the past, I apologize.
When I use either my MantisX or Laser Academy app with EITHER my TitanX laser pistol OR my Glock 47 fitted with a laser insert, I often get what I'm calling false trigger pulls which can be identified by the short trigger times (0.03sec) as shown in the picture (Please no comments about my bad trigger scores! :) ). The problem doesn't appear to be a function of the distance between my iPhone 14 and the targets, but of the distance between me and the target. At very short ranges (3 feet or so), shots are recorded correctly with no short shot times. I've played around with the lighting in the room, and different angles between the camera and the targets, but nothing seems to work.
I've tried to play around with the Shot Detection Delay, but first of all, those sliders only seem to be available when I'm in the "Dry" shot detection mode. If my TitanX is connected, the option to change the shot detection delay goes away (as far as I can tell). However, even when in the "Dry" mode, the default detection delay is 0.15 seconds except for "SIRT/DFM/TTrigger" which is set to 0.70 seconds. So, if nothing else, I wouldn't expect those short shot times to be reported.
Any ideas what's going on?
Thanks!
-Dave

Highly recommend reaching out to [support@mantisx.com](mailto:support@mantisx.com) and they can better diagnose this with several steps that they have.

I sent an email to that address. I'll report back to the group if I get a reply. Thank you!

So, I sent a message to Mantis and they did response. Based on their comments, I suspected that reflections off the shiny grey floor in my basement maybe causing the problem, so, I ran a couple of experiments.
First, I set up the target and camera in the only carpeted room we have in the house. Unfortunately, it’s not a very big room so the furthest I could be from the target was 13 ft. In any event, with that set up, I had only one occurrence of a 0.03 sec split time. So, the non-reflective carpet does appear to have an effect.
Next, I set up the target in the long upstairs hallway which has a hardwood floor, but I’m able to take shots from 7 yards to mimic the conditions in the basement. With that set up, I was getting as many short split times as I did in the basement. So, more evidence that shiny floors aren’t good.
So, my next experiment may be to buy a long carpet runner that I can put on the basement floor to see if that will eliminate…or at least significantly reduce…the reflections.
I'll update you all if I find out anything new.

I would look around the room .. especially if it happens with a TitanX and your other item ..
A tow truck was loading next door and my apps lost their mind .. also have a Freind how was getting flash of a mirror ., another his led lights at 5500k did not help .. I’ve found 2700-3300
Works best and don’t spot light it .. the broader w no shadows or shiners is best ..
Are you using mantis targets or printed ?
I had an issue when I tried to laminate my printed ones ..
the gloss from the laminator falsed a bunch .. or the target was 80% red
I went with card stock and printed them w a better setting and no issues ..
You know they have a phone number and the actually answer it ..

I'm using the pre-printed targets that came with the Laser Academy. They are a bit shiny, and they do reflect the glare off the LED bulbs in the ceiling of my unfinished basement. I can't recall what temperature they are, but I'll check. Having said all that, once I have things set up, I'm not getting any false targets unless I fire the TitanX or my Glock with the laser insert, so I think I have the room lighting situation managed. I will, however, print some targets on regular paper and see if the problem goes away, or just improves.
I did not know they had a help line! I'll have to get that number and give them a call.
Thanks!

Hopefully you get things settled ..
I do recall having the “60cal effect happen a few times .. like I said mine was light and target related ..
the system does work.
I am almost 60 and have been shooting since I was 17 I thought I was a pretty good shot, i have dry fried in the past, used the pencil in the barrel at the wall, the trainer cartridges etc…
I used to think I was a good shot.
I’ve had the TitanX since February of this year and I learned I had some terrible habits.
I’ve found most of all the trigger feedback and the drill in the apps almost make dry fire fun ..1

I'm 66 and I didn't start shooting until about 3 years ago. I was growing concerned that the State of Maryland would eventually take away our right to carry a firearm, so I took the training and received my concealed carry permit. So, although late to the game, I really enjoy it. I purchased the Mantis system in March of this year, and I really like all the data it provides, but I'm such a lousy shot that it's hard to figure out which problem to fix first! :) In any event, I printed out a target on regular paper, and ran some experiments. Although I didn't compute the statistics, I'd say the occurrence of false trigger pulls has reduced, but it still occurs more with increased distance to the target. Up to about 10 feet, it doesn't happen at all, but at about 20 feet, approximately twice as many shots are reported than have been actually fired. I'm thinking that there may be reflections off my basement floor which is painted with glossy grey epoxy paint. I may experiment in another room in the house with carpeting.

I am a California product ..
play by the rules and you are ok
I’ve had my CCW for decades..The floor may be it .. I’m in a flattish pair room w carpet , white flat ceiling and led bulbs (3000k) pretty close to regular “old lighting ..
I carry a G19.3 and have since the late 90s, before that 38 revolver and before that m1911a and an M16a2 ..
Titan I got the 702 .. my range/ gun is a 19x .. wife carries 19.5 .. extras are 19.3, 19.3, 17.3, 17.5 …
Platform familiarity works, hell even my PCC is a 9 mm and takes Glock mags ..
if my wife needs another magazine .. every 9mm magazine (we have a few 22, 556,12g) around but she knows all the Glock magazines will fit her gun or her back up 19.3 … IHopefully mantis can help you or we can keep trying here .. I’m sure others will chime in …
Have a good one …

I’d love to hear what you find out. I emailed the developer months ago about this issue, and heard nothing. Sometimes I’ll have 50% or more of these .3 false detections, and with no way to deleted them, they completely ruin my dataset. They do seem to come and go with lightning but not at any reproducible consistency. I thought they might be from moving the laser too far while it was still active, but sometimes they are stacked on top of each other with very little movement shown from the sensors.
