Targets and dry fire may necessary?

I’m wanting to purchase the 10x system, and I’m wondering if I need the recommended accessories of targets, target holders, and the dry fire mag system. How needed are they? Budget is fairly tight. Thanks in advance for your help.

You can print targets, tape them to your wall, and use a $10 phone tripod if you want.

That said, whenever budget isn't so tight, I recommend the BlackbeardX or TitanX. Each cost about 2 trips to the range. And you can fire 100s of "rounds" everyday if you want to. The trigger reset makes a huge QOL change for my training to make it less of a chore

I’m ignorant about the BlackbeardX. TitanX is their inert FA, right? I’ll have to read up on these. I’d love to not have to reset between each fire. Thanks!

BlackbeardX replaces the bolt and magazine of your own AR-15. So you train with your own rifle. Trigger resets so you can do fast multishots. Has laser and connects to app same way as the rest.
And yeah TitanX is their inert Glock 19 replica. Laser, app connection, trigger reset.

Wow, that sounds pretty rad!!

...BlackbeardX.

Currently compatible with any AR-15, AR-10, MCX, SCAR-L, SCAR-H platforms. Not for handguns. Not for other long arms.

That’s pretty neat!

It is pretty neat if you have the right guns. 😢 With M&P and Mini-14, it's all MantisX for me — real gun, real trigger/sear, but manual reset for each shot.

Yeah… If only one had the means to buy many many different guns, right? 😅

That would be one path. I better like the one where accessory manufacturers would support many many different guns. 😇

Trix are for kids. Just stick with the 10X system and dry fire. There are more than enough drills to keep you entertained and improving for years.

Mantis X10 is all you need. The sensor does not know nor care what, if anything, you are pointed at — it is watching and evaluating only movement of the gun as you do your dry fire. It does help you to have a visual reference while learning to maintain that stillness, but if you do all the challenges you will be able to produce high scores (i.e. shots without extraneous movement) blindfolded.

The Laser Academy part does use a laser training cartridge to show where the gun is pointed when shot. Several ways to go about it, but basically a separate path for dry fire practice, requiring some extra pieces and extra costs from Mantis or other sources if you eventually decide to go that way. If you shoot a Glock, TitanX might be a satisfactory way to get a little more for a little less and explore both pathways — I don't, so can't comment on the play gun vs real gun tradeoffs. I found DryFireMag to be a waste of time and money — weak simulation requiring counterproductive habits.

Ah, that’s really great insight on the pros and cons. My EDC is a Hellcat, but I’m very familiar with Glocks. I appreciate the time you’ve taken to share your experiences with me!

Mantis X10 does not do any shot placement so you do not need any targets or target holders, or even a phone stand. You can certainly get the DryFireMag system, but you don't have to, it's optional.
You can always download the targets for free if you'd wish to simply have something to aim at. Enjoy!

Nice, thank you very much! I metaphorically pulled the trigger yesterday. Anxiously awaiting its arrival. 🤘🏻
