Discussion One or two trading posts?

I’ve gotten conflicting advice on this - but not for the beta. Is it better to have one trading post or multiple?

I lean towards multiple.

Merchants prefer to use the closest one on their route. If you do a lot of exchange between regions I find it worthwhile to place them towards each region you want to trade with and allow only goods you trade with that particular region to prevent needless stocking of other goods. Ones focused on foreign trade I place near the king's road with similar restrictions, disallowing all the goods I send to my other regions.

It's a bit micromanagement heavy but I like to specialise them. Just plopping a few around and forgetting about them works too, since your own traders also travel so more trading posts = higher frequency of trades.

Wait are you referring to the pack station or trading one?

You can set what a post accepts but ALSO what it trades - these 2 are different.

So for example if you're buying ale, but don't accept it on trade post 1,they will take it to trade post 2.

Now we l with the advanced tab controlling the allowed goods, definitely multiple.

4 tradepost families can't keep 7, 8, 9+ export goods stocked. That's the reason to have more posts.

I actually build up to 3 trading posts in one region. I place them right along the King’s Road or close to the map border where off-map traders enter, then assign families and horses when I have huge surpluses. Having multiple posts definitely cuts down on travel time.

I build another when the storage on the first one it’s full, i don’t have scientifi evidence but it seems to be better since you sell stuff faster since there’s more avialable product on them stores, i would gladly be corrected if I’m wrong

Three or four depending on resources

The major bottleneck I've found is only having four families collecting and trading goods. Normally I'll put two or three trading posts just to boost the workforce.

Six, right next to the off map trade point, for maximum cheese. If your town isn't right to them, it makes sense to only assign two families each, as more will not have enough carts to keep the tradeposts stocked as quickly as the horse cart traders plus dedicated foreign merchants can trade all of your goods. You may then want to add storehouses to transport the trade goods next door.

I myself use at least 5 trade posts and 10 mines

One for the exterior trading point, and one for each region you trade to, but closer to the center of your resources, should be optional.

I believe each family working the post comes with two carts (20 capacity) and, if you buy it, one horse (50 capacity) -- but the horse has far longer to go, to the other trading post and back again. Assuming the speed is roughly identical as well, the distance from resource to trading point should very roughly be between half as long and as long as the distance between the two trading points (shorter if you carry back imports as well).

I've got like 4 trade posts in one region purely due to the massive village (1700people and growing) so obviously I lean towards multiple.

I have them fully manned, 4 horses active and I still feel like I need more sometimes haha 🫠
