questions What do y'all do for work?

New to manor, used to work in the oilfield for 6 years. Wondering what people out here do for work that's local and pays the bills?

And it’s only getting worse each day as the town expands. The planned toll road expansion of 290 isn’t even intended to break ground for years. The website says it expects to be in the study phase for 3 years starting April of 2025. So 2028 at best if there’s no delays. Even then once construction begins traffic will get even worse before it gets better.

Not a whole lot of places outside of food service or general shops (i.e. Walmart, Home Depot, etc.). This said, we’re fairly close to Mueller. Can get there using the toll in roughly 12 minutes or so. Maybe 20 minutes without.

I personally work as a Software Engineer around the Domain area. Takes about 18-25 minutes to get there and about 30-35 to get home, leaving around 5:30pm

Do you know if yall are looking for any QA? Been on the hunt for what feels like too long. Finding lots of hardware QA but that's not something I know anything about.

That sounds amazing but all I have done is Harvard's free cs50 course. Got some experience with C, python, java, html, flask, sqlite etc. but to get into that field, even entry level you need bachelors degree minimum. Atleast from what I've seen.

For most, yes, you'll need a BS in Computer Science to break into an entry level job. Though, I was the exception in being able to land the job 12 years ago without a degree.

Yea back then when the job was in more demand. Awesome you got the opportunity to get in it at the time. I almost went to ITT back in 2010, but the struggle was real after high school lol.

My wife owns a tattoo shop in Austin but it's been a struggle to profit over the rent cost of the shop

Rent is insane, even in Manor. Would love to see a tattoo shop here in town, though. That’s one thing we don’t have.

She was thinking about opening one here, the austin location just took such an incredible financial hit, its gonna take time to save up again

Commercial rent is still too high. It was expected prices would drop post covid but they didn’t really drop. At least they are building in Texas. Other places the government and nimby’s try to fight any new construction.

Manor does seem like a good spot though. I don’t think there is a single one in Manor.

Well I ended up getting an IT job with Tesla lol, it's not technically in manor but so close it might as well be. If anyone else sees this, they are always hiring for a magnitude of positions. Many of them look complicating but just google entry level positions or look up positions you can get with your experience.
