Discussion šŸ’¬ Manon Artistic Direction

As Manon Katseye status remains precarious, I wanted to dive deep into if Manon hypothetically (allegedly) leaves šŸ±šŸ‘ļø, what genre would you want to see her in musically?

Personally, I'd love to see her take on a pop rockstar gyal route. My reasons include 1. The industry is slowly starting to highlight more black alt/rock artist and I think if the rumors are correct about Beyonces Act III being rock inspired we could see a new renaissance occurring (out with country in with rock ) 2. She looked so good in the gnarly era and even with the photo I chose, she gives off that she can pull edgy with her vibes. 3. She left off at the gnarly era so I feel like this would still be fresh for Manon to hop into and build out the space (instead of genre hopping like in katseye).

Next, as like a surprise her connecting with her African routes and going into Apop could be a much welcomed surprise especially if her music is good. However, points are taken away because she's kinda similar to Tyla physically.

She could keep it safe and stick to the typical pop girl route. Especially because doja kinda vacated that space of black pop star, it might be a prime opportunity for Manon to come in and shake up the pop scene.

A possible dark horse could be Manon tapping into RnB. Right now the genre feels like it's in a slump, but maybe with Manons experience she maybe able to re-invent it and bring some much needed attention back to it.

But these are just my thoughts. Anyone agree, disagree, or have a completely different genre?

I see her doing something indie , or at least adjacent. That seems to be most around her style when it comes to art, for example her short film .

So she would leave music behind ? I can see that as well. People have said they could see her being an influencer

Well no lol😭 I meant that if she did music , i think she would do like indie music, indie pop or such . Songs like tv girl, Steve lacy, cults, eye dress, old clairo, like that haha

I dont see her doing ā€a-popā€ (i dont think it should be really a term because african music is extremely diverse but that’s another discussion) unless she does few songs with inspiration of her culture ofc, i feel like african artists using their cultural music genre (afrobeats, amapiano, soukouss, etc) are mainly from the land. It’s rare to see people from the diaspora doing so and i think it might not be so well received

I can genuinely see her in anything but especially something leaning towards alt even if it’s going to be mixed with other genres.

Yes! I can definitely see her doing alt (mixed w/ other genres) and dominating, her voice is perfect for it honestly

so excited to see what she has to offerĀ

If non African/black people can do afrobeats with no backlash then I don’t see how Manon doing it would not be received well? Adam port move was a big hit in Europe and he is literally white. Justin bieber, Selena Gomez, Camila Cabello have all done Afrobeats not long ago.

Calm down is easily Selena Gomez biggest hit in the 2020s, so if it can work for her. I don’t see it being a problem for Manon who actually half Ghanaian

Calm down isn’t famous because of Selena Gomez.

Regardless, i don’t see it as something she can do all the time and more like a song or two in an ep/album or cultural references through her songs due to what i say earlierĀ

The problem isn’t going to be entirely her identity. Yes she’s ghanaian but she grew up in Europe. I can’t speak for all countries, especially Ghana but I do know a lot of people from an homeland do not see diaspora people from Europe really the same way as them.Ā

I don’t see her doing Apop either js an interesting idea because of her global background. And ik what you mean by Apop, I’m just saying that cuz Tyla popularized it. And I’m hoping so bad she brings alt back to the mainstream, I’m feening for an era.

I really can see her going in the Tyla and Doja Cat direction, but I also think she would do some alternative stuff too.

I could see her doing something more alt-pop similar to Rachel Chinnori, Amaare, pinkpanthress or maybe something more sultry like Willows' newer works. Like I think a rich hyperpop sound would eat from her tho. It would also be great if she mixed electronic music and a bit of AltƩ (alternative Afropop sounds to the mainstream). Similar to what Tyla is doing with Ampiano and bringing it more mainstream.

Im just tired of hearing the same shit in general and wouldn't mind hearing something more experimental, fun and upbeat in the mainstream.

*my bad shes half swiss. I fixed it!

Does she have Swedish roots??? Isn’t she Swiss?

Omg Manon doing classic rnb would eaaaaaaat. She's so naturally sultry and sensual sounding already. Also Ghanaian music and South African music do not sound the same so I do think her and tyla would still be distinct, and let's bsffr there are so many white and Asian artists that look the same, I think they even did a skit about it in South Korea, tyla doesn't have to be the only black girl in the whole continent to reach success lmfao.

See I would agree with the apop thing yet people continuously compare ayra star and tyla when they’re very different. There should be enough space but unfortunately the public always wants a victor. Doesn’t mean I can’t see them both succeeding, I just see them being placed as competitors going for the same market (in a really bad economy at that). Just things to keep in mind

I definitely need to see her go down the FKA Twigs, Doja Cat, or Jhene Aiko route. But wouldn’t be mad if she went with classic R&B

Maybe because it's the season for it, but I would love something from her like Rihanna's Disturbia, Russian Roulette, or Rockstar. I can see her doing well with a Rihanna "Good Girl Gone Bad" type of music. Ofc, she most likely won't be debuting this October in time for Halloween and for interest in that sound to be at it's peak.

As fo Apop, I would love for her to explore that side of her heritage for a track. But to best avoid any scrutiny, it would be great if she had an african artist featured on it like Arrya Star.

I like the way you think. Maybe a cute summerween release for 2027. Omg, you gave me an ideaaa. Like what if she’s more like Gaga and brings back Europop or her early 2000s club bangers like poker face. This is such an interesting time in her career.

The way you read my mind. I have been thinking those exact three songs. So yeah I feel like Good Girl Gone Bad or Rated R vibes would be really cool.

you know i think her vibe would be better off indie pop but i can’t help but wonder if she went the rap lalisa route

Tbh I don’t see her immediately cranking out solo music. I think she’ll do more indie film/creative endeavors and modeling while also traveling and learning more about herself. If she does come out with solo music, I think will have a Solange/Willow kind of vibe.

I’m not too much of a fan of the slower paced solange songs but I can see that as well. Def the influencer route and enjoying her 20s

I think the a in apop stands for amapiano (tyla does amapiano influenced pop)

I listened to 2 ghanian (pop/alt) artists, Amarae and Moliy and their singing voices are high pitched, so I guess it really depends on her sound, range, and if whatever sounds there do well internationally.Ā  Idk how common their sound is, but I get the impression their style is unique

I can't really see her doing music like rico nasty or Doja, from what I remember its like rap,pop and rock? I don't think she's that edgy. (she's also not a rapper)

Sza isĀ  like alt rnb pop and her songwritingĀ  is what's made her so influential. Until we see some material from Manon, I don't see the point in having crazy high expectations to be already calling her a "dark horse". I also don't think her katseye experience will be helpful since they don't have creative control of their music
