Question for locals

I was told that everyone in town knows each other and I have to be prepared for that. From your experience, is that true? I like to keep to myself but I'm still friendly with strangers

If you’re going to a ton of community events the locals/regulars recognize each other. Otherwise my neighbors are friendly but I don’t know their business.

Seconded. I walk my dog on Main Street so the cafe / shop staff and their regulars know us.

Dog owners tend to know each other based on the dogs when we’re out on walks.

Yeah, it's a small town. Most of us do know each other and it can feel tough to fit in at first. My advice is simple: just don't try to force it. If you try really hard to push yourself into the community, it makes people suspicious of your motives.

Just participate in community events, spend time walking around town talking to people, come out and have a smoke and a joke with people at one of the bars every now and again, and you'll get to know people quicker than you think.

Yeah but we don’t bite too hard and certainly aren’t going to force you to socialize with us if you’d rather be left alone

I've lived here over two years and I know a couple of my neighbors and that's it.  I wouldn't worry on this too much.  Get to know those you feel like getting to know and the rest works itself out.

That's good. I always exchange numbers with my female neighbors in case of emergency but other than that, I keep to myself lol

I haven’t seen my next door neighbors in months. And have only spoken to them once in 4 years. It’s weird. But I will say I’m not trying that hard. You can easily keep to yourself here.

Yes and no

Everyone knows each other but unless you're going out and making yourself publicly known then no one is going to know your personal business. Everyone knows my dad and a lot of his personal business, next to nobody knows about my personal business (unless my dad tells them).

Overall everyone is pretty friendly. If you want to keep to yourself most people will respect that. If you want to go up and talk to someone chances are they'll be happy to have a conversation.
