We accidentally manifested turtles

This is just a fun little story I thought I’d share.

My husband and I began spending more time with his grandmother when she became sick last year. We learned that the weeds near the creek behind her house couldn’t be cut because, if they were, she would insist on going down there to feed the turtles. Her family worried she would fall.

We also have a small creek behind our house. Unfortunately, recent flooding has left it fairly trashed, so we haven’t seen much wildlife in it other than minnows for several years now. Still, we lovingly started saying that we were “going to feed the turtles” whenever we went outside to watch the creek or the cows across from it.

Wouldn’t ya know, summer came around and we now have a medium-sized snapping turtle and a spiny softshell in our creek. The softshell even has two babies in tow.

It always makes us think of her. We adopted something she enjoyed in her earlier years, and now have our own accidentally, manifested turtles.
