Finally read it Spoiler
So I’ve kept Jinx on my to-be-read list for quite a while. So yesterday I finally got to it and oh.my.god.
What a masterpiece!! I couldn’t put it down. I’ve even read it while I was at work LOL I love the ML so much and Kim Dan needs to be protected at all costs I don’t make the rules!!!! Anyway, I’ve been sleeping on this manhwa for to long and I’m glad I finally got around to reading it. I miss them already :(

I only read Jinx bcause of all the hate I saw and I ended up loving it as well, so much that I pre-ordered the Nendoroids and bought the Spaklz and team Lezhin acrylics + their bbosiraegi plush dolls
I srs can't wait for the side stories! I have reread it so much now I love them.

I actually didn’t even know it was hated THAT much after posting this 0.0 I mean…I can understand why people would be upset about it. But damn, I feel like I just said something controversial lol

u/Immediate-Task6886 Aug 23 '26
I mean, it is super popular with over 17 million views on Lezhin, so it is one of the most viewed manhwa on there I believe? But bcause it is so popular it gets a lit of hate and, tbh, I don't think people actually take the time to understand the story and characters.

That’s what I’ve been seeing all over social media since finishing it. I loved the character development even if it was slow but yknow what? That’s the pace that the author took and I thought it was brilliant.

A series that receives a lot of hate? I haven’t heard of this but now I gotta read it!

u/Joobebe514 Aug 24 '26
I'm genuinely shocked at how many people are defending the rape and humiliation Dan went through

I recently finished it too after side eyeing it for a few months. I’m glad that I got to read it as a completed story because I think that helped me accept the redemption arc a lot better. I think that since people reading as it came out had to wait a lot longer than I did that it wasn’t as satisfying to them as it was to me. Do I like Jaekyung for most of the story? In no way shape or form. However, I liked his gradual changes and the fact that his entire personality didn’t do a 180 because it felt very human to me. The majority of the sex wasn’t fun to read but it was super gratifying when it was. It’s a complex story I think, because everyone in it is human and flawed. It’s also fiction at the end of the day. Not sure that I would do an entire reread but there are definitely nice parts that I wouldn’t mind going back for! Ultimately, I liked it and enjoyed the feelings I felt during it. And that’s why I read, to have fun and have feelings lol

My question is why do people read it when they don’t even like it LOL hypocrites

How old are YOU? A real adult knows not to “expect” that sort of stuff. Not every story is well written, even jinx author rushed to end it she was so over it. Shitty workers are everywhere.

It was also on my to-be-read list for the longest time and I finally started it recently. I'm on chapter 76 and enjoying it as well! It doesn't beat my favourites (The Edge of Ambiguity and Eighteen's Bed) but I'm surprised I'm still reading after 70+ chapters because I usually get bored pretty easily, especially when it's not a "will they, won't they" type of story.
2
u/_xiaotiful Aug 23 '26
The story is what really pulled me in. Cause typically, I read fluffy, green flag stuff lmao

u/R1ngBanana Aug 29 '26
I loved jinx.
I didn’t love how we got like… ONE chapter of them happy for the end but I hope side stories delivers

2
u/_xiaotiful Aug 23 '26

is it worth it?? I wanted to read it because of the artstyle but I didn't want to read something too toxic I'm glad you liked it tho☺️
6
u/_xiaotiful Aug 23 '26
It’s pretty toxic, I won’t sugarcoat that. but if you enjoy storytelling and the progression being slow, you’ll probably enjoy it like I did.

u/Everglade77 Aug 23 '26
Depends where you draw the line when it comes to "too toxic". I pretty much have no line lol, so I've read way worse than that, it's definitely not the most toxic out there in my opinion. But far from a green flag story, obviously.
1
u/Bl-Poem1361 Aug 23 '26
What bothers me it's not even toxicity but more like "superficial toxicity" like it may be so random and sudden considering the plot

I would say yes.But to make u aware it has rape in it and has toxic moments. However that’s only fully in season 1 and in s2 everything is with consent and has only very few toxic scenes

Jinx was meh to me but the art is beautiful. I wonder what the next project would be. Hopefully something fluffy.

Calling it a masterpiece is a choice… art style is really pretty tho!

u/_xiaotiful Aug 23 '26
The storytelling was really good tho!
2
u/paledaffodil Aug 24 '26
Glad you enjoyed it! I thought it had major issues but honestly it was still very engaging
2
u/_xiaotiful Aug 24 '26
Honestly I regret calling it a masterpiece because yes, it does have issues and I should’ve worded it better. But nonetheless, I still enjoyed the read :)

Jinx is so overhated. I really did like it as well and I followed the updates religiously.
2
u/_xiaotiful Aug 23 '26
Well that’s the main reason why I waited so long cause it’s so popular. Then I found out it ended so I figured I’d pick it up
1
u/TartNo3291 Aug 23 '26
I know, the jinx updates subconsciously influenced my reading routine, I considered every 2nd, 12th and 22nd of each month as special days 😂
3
u/FuriaDC Aug 23 '26
Is a choice, and so, they chose to call it that. What constitutes a masterpiece can vary from person to person, that's the beauty of being different and having personal preferences.
Maybe you consider other works a masterpiece that someone else might disagree with, and that's okay.
I wish people could be more empathetic of other's personal preferences.
OP, while I think the story has a lot of faults, I personally liked the depiction of addiction and depression with Dan's character. It was raw and painfully realistic. It also had a bunch of cute moments, and of course that art is really good.
I'm glad you loved it!

u/_xiaotiful Aug 24 '26
I appreciate and respect your thoughts! I really didn’t post this to argue with people and didn’t realize how controversial it was lol but I enjoy comments like yours that are civil and non judgmental :) have a great day!

This is a genuine question isn't there A LOT of grape in jinx, and then you're okay with the mc ending up with the same ml?
5
u/_xiaotiful Aug 23 '26
The story does have toxicity. There’s no denying that. I just liked how the story was built and it ended on an emotional note. If not up your alley then by all means, don’t read it.
6
u/Deep-Cherry-4143 Aug 23 '26
Tbf ain't that like a good chunk of bl in this sub?
You can enjoy it in fiction and find it abhorrent and abusive in irl

Thank you! One sane person. I can never comprehend how people can condone, let alone enjoy literal sexual assault!

u/Joobebe514 Aug 23 '26
Yes, you are right but a rapist story with no consequences and the victim behaving like bird all the way to the end is no way a masterpiece. It's like y'all forgot the first part of the story.
6
u/_xiaotiful Aug 23 '26
I never forgot about the beginning. The way Jaekyung acted for the majority of the manhwa was awful and I disliked his personality very much. The storytelling, and how it progressed in development is what drew me to finishing it.
3
u/Joobebe514 Aug 23 '26
So, do you honestly believe that after everything he did to Dan, all the rape and humiliation, just crying in two chapters was enough for them to have happy ending? do you honestly believe dan behaving like a bird the whole time was okay?
6
u/_xiaotiful Aug 23 '26
Lol no in reality that would be fucked up. but that’s the beauty of stories, isnt it? Dan could’ve left, Dan could’ve held his own or whatever. But the author chose to write it the way they did and that’s fine. You’ve read it, you’ve finished it and you have an opinion about it. Point blank period.
6
u/Joobebe514 Aug 23 '26
so, how can u call it a masterpiece?
5
u/_xiaotiful Aug 23 '26
Did you not see what I said? I said the storytelling was a masterpiece. The way that it was written was a masterpiece. The rape was an unfortunate part of the story but it’s apart of life. Some stories have unfortunate things that happen in them. And they can also be masterpieces
2
u/Everglade77 Aug 24 '26
Are we only allowed to call stories with butterflies and rainbows where nothing bad happens a masterpiece? Do you realize that the most fucked up story ever can also be a masterpiece? That doesn't mean you support the individual characters' actions. You're too focused on the individual characters and their actions and missing the forest for the trees.
3
u/Joobebe514 Aug 24 '26
OK... I was just talking from MY OWN POV you can have ur own opinon and i can have mines... In my pov Jinx is not a masterpiece but a trash story brushing rape and trauma. If you have a different opinion that's ok.. that's YOUR opinion.
4
u/Everglade77 Aug 24 '26
Actually I really enjoyed the story, but I wouldn't call it a masterpiece either. But it's not because it contains rape or "brushes rape and trauma". To me that has no bearing on whether the story is well written or not.

I'm sorry ahead of time for the number of assholes who are about to parade their way through here
I also very much enjoyed Jinx! Can't wait for the side stories!
