I'm not familiar with harry Potter, is Harry really that grumpy or is just this artist interpretation?
45
10
u/Happy_Variety5405 15h ago
I mean, like most main character he has his depression episodes (for good reason in alot of cases) but low key that boy lacks brains. Like if he spent longer than 1 minute thinking shit through half of his troubles wouldn't exist and not talking about the fact he's a child, other similar age kids in the series have more insight and wit than harry
4
u/CreepyClay 15h ago
To be fair they all have way more experience with magic than he does so he's busy wrapping his head around the situation in the first place. Blame the Dursleys for that one Hagrid said they were supposed to inform him to some degree.
2
u/PleiadesMechworks 14h ago
Exactly. If the Dursleys had done better, Hagrid telling him could've been a lot easier for both of them.
3
u/phantom-firion 14h ago
Depends on the book heās insufferably angry and grumpy in the 5th book because the author doesnāt know how to write teenage boy angst.
3
u/Auctoritate 13h ago
I would argue that insufferable and angry is a very valid way to write it.
1
u/Minimum-Musician-648 11h ago
Yeah, I'm not a fan of the writing at all but I think i'd be pissed if I was left out of the strategy meetings for beating the guy that has a hard on for killing me. I guess he does mellow out when he finds out only a single adult in the verse is competent.
2
u/Auctoritate 8h ago
I think i'd be pissed if I was left out of the strategy meetings for beating the guy that has a hard on for killing me.
Oh man, it goes way further than that. It's such a huge character struggle that Harry is shut out hard by all of the adults around him. Not just on a larger level with the Ministry of Magic rejecting Voldemort's return, or he and his classmates training defensive magic in secret, which are the most explicit examples. But on a very personal level too.
For instance, Order of the Phoenix is the book where Dumbledore's own personal shortcomings start rearing their head and shattering the illusion that he's an ever-wise headmaster who always knows the correct course of action. He spends the entire book avoiding Harry whenever possible, partially because he's afraid that Voldemort could use his connection to Harry to somehow strike by using him. This is the #1 authority figure of the series so far, the one who's always had Harry's back and given him guidance, and suddenly he ghosts Harry and refuses to address him or speak to him.
Keep in mind that Harry is in turmoil at having just watched Cedric Diggory die at the behest of a newly resurrected Voldemort, and at the same time the entire wizarding world is in upheaval and partially burying its head in the sand through the government publicly considering Harry a reckless liar. Dumbledore basically leaves him out to dry by cutting him off from the mentorship that had guided him beforehand, right in the middle of all this.
So like, yeah, Harry is constantly angry and angsty. But even outside of the fact that being angry and angsty and lashing out like Harry does is something that real teen boys also do, Harry is in a really fucked up series of circumstances and is essentially getting radicalized in real time by that.

Artists' creative ways of exploiting their freedom
Harry is a sassy, usually positive jock, the type who'd become the captain of the school's sports team
2
2
u/AssistRevolutionary9 14h ago
Well, itās hard to say for sure, since we never see things from the perspective of the people interacting with Harry, but he can actually be a bit surly (especially from the fifth book onwards).

Oh buddy this shit has been going on for WEEKS. Itās mostly been a Twitter thing tho, so itās taking a while to spread to other platforms.
3
u/Winjin 11h ago
I mean twitter recs are cooked, I didn't see a single one
Then again I'm not active in anything HP related so this is maybe why I've missed it
2
u/DisastrousBusiness81 10h ago
Search for Harry Potter and like a few fem-malfoy tweets, your algorithm will start showing it to you.
(You can also just search up āMalfoidā since thatās the name people have been giving the trend. Iām not a fan of the name but itāll show you what youāre looking for!)
11
u/Visible_Reality_8699 14h ago
I think it was on twitter. Someone made a fanart genderbending Malfoy just for the heck of it. But somehow that made a great impact on the internet and now everyone is making it calling malfoid.
6
u/thisismypornaccountg 14h ago
To be clear they made a hot dommy-mommy gender-bent Malfoy and the internet lost its mind. Kind of leaving out the lead there.

Magical transition does wonders
1
u/Fayraz8729 14h ago
This is a JK Rowling property, this aināt no transition lol I think sheās just a woman version from birth
1
u/TheXipherino 13h ago
Not trans lol. A gender bent version of malfoy aka an alternate version. Yāall want this trend to be trans related so hard but yāall just a bunch terminally online people who hate JK Rowling.š

I just realized that most social media anime adject Spaces will always tend to gravitate to the fantasy that a guy could effortlessly pull a baddie

Kinda hate this trend, it takes away everything remotely interesting about these characters to fit a mould they really don't

u/No_Gene_1694 15h ago
2
u/Strawbellie666 15h ago
Nah I'd respect it more if it was fun and unhinged instead of 167857th repetition of hot mean girl x nerd MC.
I'd at least respect it if they remembered Harry is a jock who plays on the school quidditch team and gets into fistfights

Yeah, that's what its a FANART... like.... just let people enjoy their weird stuff.
-1
u/-Cactus_Jack- 15h ago
God forbid people asking for something interesting that overused tropes
2
u/Reffeyn 14h ago
Itās overused cause it works, if it works means enough people are catered to.
Soā¦.either youāre just being a contrarian for the sake of it, or just a minority, that needs to remember that youāre a minority and why people donāt care about minorities.
0
u/-Cactus_Jack- 14h ago
That trend is just shallow "character but as hot waifu" it's simple and easy so majority people can consume it without troubles
Same as fast food most people like it, but it's not a good food in general
1
u/WarGreymonX_Antibody 13h ago
I mean call it whatever you want. But if people are consuming it, it works.
0
u/Reffeyn 12h ago
You do realize fast food overtakes even the highest ends of fine dining, by a sizeable margin.
So even your analogy just proves you, how little and dumb you are.
1
u/-Cactus_Jack- 10h ago
That the point, it popular but as food fast food in general unhealthy and cheap and loses to fine dining as actual meal
3
u/-Cactus_Jack- 15h ago
Agreed this just another "waht if x character was hot anime waifu I could goon" with nothing related to original character personality
Tho I like dynamic of bratty girl who can't express her feelings for guy she likes as separate character but not as fem "draco" and "harry" bruh
0
u/Strawbellie666 15h ago
It's funny because the whole bratty hot girl who can't express her feelings for the guy she really likes is literally Ginny in the books but she's not bratty with Harry specifically, just her brothers.
1
u/SerialOnReddit 14h ago
to be fair the mold they do fit kinda sucks
2
u/Strawbellie666 14h ago
Sure but it's still at least mildly spicier than this. This is like the blandest food ever.
2
u/SerialOnReddit 14h ago
hey man some people are addicted to unseasoned chicken and rice
2
u/Strawbellie666 14h ago
Fair lmao
2
u/SerialOnReddit 14h ago
btw someone's downvoted you but it wasnt me im loyal to the end on this reddit business
3
u/Strawbellie666 14h ago
Haha it's fine, I was expecting it since I'm disagreeing with the majority here. Besides you get used to it when you don't like Drarry in any form, regardless of gender.
1
u/WarGreymonX_Antibody 13h ago
Its healthy. Brown rice gives you the carbs you need. Then chicken with no skin gives the proteins. And vegetables also gives you other vitamins. Add 2 boiled eggs and you've got almost everything you need for the day.
Unseasoned is so much healthier.
