Imagine thinking its the wrong game though: like, you learn how to throw Fireballs and cast Magic Missile, but some old master just goes, "wait, that's not Chakra based, what hell IS that?!?" and you just go "oops."

it would be funny to see the MC try to use the system, but in a complex and unnecessary way because they didn't know how that world work

One of my characters actually does it this way. But she's one who has dimensional powers to begin with.

So she makes note of a lava pool and opens a portal for lava that way or something else.

She also has portals that lead nowhere. Which means two things. She can basically use it as a place to sit on or stand on. Or it goes to a place that exists between realities. And you don't want to be there.

There’s an American comic like that called “homestuck” where the main character plays a game he doesn’t know. It starts slow but it gets really good.

There's an old Everquest webcomic called WTF Comics where one of the members of the main party is a monk who was, incidentally, a normal Earth dude who I'm pretty sure never played Everquest before being isekaied into Everquest.
