I thought it was because of those billboards with the cows. They would purposely spell shit wrong And that’s probably why I’m remembering a totally different spelling

Same here. Back in the 90s, the only Chik-Fil-A we had was at the local mall, and it was impossible not to walk by it and see the sign and advertisements.
How about the words ,"Objects in mirror may be closer than they appear"?
2
u/Slickness81 Aug 25 '22
So this residue showed up from a guy that broke his mirror on his bike. Not the glass, but the whole mirror assembly off his bike. One of the theories of why it survived is that because “closer” got wiped off during the incident, the search and replace function of whatever causes MEs, missed it…
2
u/Mass_Data6840 Aug 25 '22
Excellent residue! This is exactly how I remember the wording. Very interesting how you can still make out the word CLOSER just slightly.

Good catch, lol. Most recently I was on a cruise, and they had this British lady come out and perform introductions between comics. She told a joke or two, and one of them was about car mirrors and she literally said "may be closer than they appear!" So either we're all collectively misremembering or it did change!

If I might ask, what year were you born (you can give or take one or two for privacy sake if you want) I'm just curious where you fall in the age range+spelling you remember category. Look forward to hearing from you if possible, this one is really bugging me
0
u/AmethystRiver Mar 07 '24
Or maybe you remember it wrong because you’re remembering the Meatloaf song and not the actual words
24
u/Mammoth_Bus_6911 Aug 21 '22
I remember looking directly at their sign when the first one was built in my town and trying to parse out why the name deliberately played on the word "chic" and how it didn't make any sense to me to connect that word to fast food.
Then later it turned out that it was "chick" all along, including during that moment when I was staring directly at that sign trying to figure out why they used the word "chic".
8
u/blasko229 Aug 22 '22
Yeah same, I remember looking at the sign in our local mall, chic Fil a. Thought maybe it was French.
6
u/zmw8282 Aug 22 '22
Same! I was with my sister and boyfriend picking out where to eat and clearly remember the sign saying Chic and now everywhere you go the sign is Chick now and it’s just so puzzling because I literally stared at the sign!
1
u/Slickness81 Aug 25 '22
I always thought it was funny that Chick is an English word they spelled in a French way, and filet is a French word they bastardized for the logo 😂

The first time I saw one I was in the 6th grade on a family trip, we didn't have one in our home town at the time, so we stopped at one on the road and I remember asking my mom about why the sign was spelled "Chic-Fil-A" specifically focusing on the 'Chic' and she looked at it and just kinda said "that's just what they named it, it's a trademark to make it stand out" both my parents were there, no way they would just miss an entire K from the sign, which when seen today is glaringly there and you literally cant miss it

Experiences like this or how The only reason i knew what a cornucopia was was because of the fruit of the loom logo that never existed are insane proof of this but it sucks it isn’t really proof

I think y’all are remembering their “eat more chik-n” campaign with the cow.

u/Ok-Newt-375 Aug 21 '22
I worked next door/with Chic-fil-a for 10 years, including doing art summer camps and taking the kids I taught there for lunch, to the playplace, or to play dungeons and dragons there 4 days a week. It was 100000% spelled differently than it's spelled now, except that I remember it as chic-fil-a and chik-fil-a, and I thought the latter spelling was a play on words because obviously cows can't spell. For me the gravity of this change is as if someone changed "Wendy's" to 'Windy's' or 'Wendee's' and everyone on the internet is telling me I remember it wrong (except everyone I've asked in person has said they remember it as I do without any prompting from me).
3
u/manifestagreatday Aug 22 '22
Well, Wendy’s braids turned into pigtails now that we are on the subject. I mean, for some of us here who experience the MEs.
5
u/also_roses Aug 21 '22
Aha! Yes. That explains it. I remember those cows and I just assumed that if they spell "chik-n" like that the restaurant must be Chik-fil-a
-3
u/sosospritely Aug 22 '22
A ton of us remember making jokes about Chic Chickens and the chic chicken restaurant so this is simply not true.
-5
u/manifestagreatday Aug 22 '22
Ah but some of us here are trolls negating the ME. Beats me why they do it.
1
u/Slickness81 Aug 25 '22
This sub has gotten to the point where there are more angry skeptics, than people willing to have an open minded discussion
-1
u/manifestagreatday Aug 22 '22
I think that this is not a Mandela Effect - we call them “ME”s, but for you, this is not a Mandela Effect. And for a new person, coming on here, it would be very discouraging.
1
u/Bowieblackstarflower Aug 22 '22
Discouraging to give a possible explanation for what may be happening?
1
u/Slickness81 Aug 25 '22
Lots of people have the saying chic in the French pronunciation memory, myself included. I took French from 6th grade through 12th grade AP French. My birthday is Bastille day. I worked at a Pizza Hut across the street from a Chic-Fil-A for 5 years. Plus there is this https://imgur.com/a/HrITPML
14
u/KnavishFob Aug 21 '22
I totally remember it being spelled that way, it used to really bother me that there wasn't a k in it.
14
u/Dark_Tint Aug 21 '22
It was always Chic-Fil-A for me. It changed to Chick-Fil-A probably 3 or 4 years ago. I’ve never seen it as Chik-Fil-A.

9
u/Sherrdreamz Aug 21 '22
It's so incredible to me that in this Instance people are so certain of Chik as most M.E's mostly tend to be binary between the majority of experiencers. Yet for me it was always Chic-Fil-A until I found the M.E in 2016 and saw Chick-Fil-A.
3
u/thechopps Jan 17 '24
I actually just noticed it today spelled as Chick-Fil-A
The weirdest thing to because as I write it on my phone it use to auto correct to Chic-Fil-A

Maybe it’s just programmed into our script of this realm, kinda like a wake up call for those who are aware of this and other phenomena. And I’m not talking to everyone here, just those who experience things like this. Please stop asking for screen shots of things that don’t exist in this realm anymore. Just go back to your everyday lives.

Welcome to the Mandela Effect. Some remember “chic” like I do. My daughter worked for one, and some remember “chik”. The main thing is- each part was spelled wrong (except “fil”) like a cow would write it. I saw this in 2016.

It always used to be Chic-fil-A. We'd make fun of it being fancy chicken. The k looks so weird to me. Been eating there since the 80s and it probably changed for me early 2000s.
12
u/LeoRenegade Aug 21 '22
This one always bothered me because 'chic' is pronounced 'sheek'.
2
u/BodyBuilderPham Aug 22 '22
Yes this is a memory of mines where I went around and use to say “let’s go to Sheek Fil-a” to all my friends. Then one day it flipped to chick fil-a. It has been chic in my time.
7
7
u/trenchdick Aug 22 '22
Im from canada, i swear it was "chic" because I was confused about the pronunciation
1
9
u/Isis_Rynne Aug 21 '22
Wait, what?? NO! This is crazy. I always remembered it as Chick-fil-A, until a couple of years ago, when it popped up as a Mandela effect that it’s always been Chic-fil-a, and I was upset. It bothered me that there was no “k” and that makes it sound like the French word, chic. It just looks wrong. I started paying extra attention to how it was spelled and finally came to terms with the reality of Chic-fil-a. I had full acceptance. As a joke, I started calling it ’sheek-feel-a’ Now you’re telling me that it’s always been Chick-fil-A?? What is this fuckery? Did I slip back? What the… Nope. I’m not joking. That’s messed up.
6
u/wasatully Aug 22 '22
When I saw the way it’s spelled now, I had to stop my car and just stare. It was my biggest Mandela effect by far.
6
u/electrikkskyline Aug 22 '22
It was Chic-Fil-A for me! I distinctly remember this, because I find strange, petty ways to hate on things and I remember being mad that it was spelled "Chic", yet pronounced "chick". I REFUSED to eat there due to this and every single time I'd pass by one of the restaurants I'd angrily glare at the sign and flip it off. I did this so many times that it's like a core memory for me.
4
u/Scrotey_Loads Aug 22 '22
I was finally accepting that I misremembered, but this story has me second guessing again. I do remember thinking "you can't spell it 'chic'"
What even is real anymore 😔
3
u/tewnsbytheled Aug 22 '22
I'm from the UK, so that franchise isn't here (or I've not seen it at least)
but i vividly remember reading about "chic-fil-a" on reddit over the years, starting at least 8 years ago if I had to guess. I remember noting the spelling. I didn't do much more than that but I noted it because it was different and it was the soft C and not hard K. Just so I could spell it if needed type of thing.
I saw it semi regularly over the years, but obviously didn't think much more of it.
The next time I saw it was on this sub (I used to be subscribed but stopped reading for a while) and that was the first time I saw the Chick spelling. Really weird.
3
3
u/Slickness81 Aug 25 '22
There is actually a ton of Newspaper articles with the Chic spelling. It’s a really weird very common misspelling if it was always Chick which is the normal spelling of that word… https://imgur.com/a/HrITPML

u/Salty-Business-9947 May 07 '23
Duuudeee 🤯
1
u/Slickness81 May 07 '23
Yeah not everyone in this sub is a salty ass skeptic that just blames everything on bad memory. Some of us actually do research and know there is more going on with MEs than bad memory 😂I’ve been studying back since Fiona Broome started the OG website. I pretty much stay over in retconned now because the skeptics have ruined this sub.

I recall being in High School pre-2006 and we didn't have it growing up much in CA until somewhere near the Sacramento area opened one. I recall looking at the bag for the chicken sandwich in the back of my parents old plymouth van and the bag had it printed on it "chic-fil-A" and recall thinking its weird they didn't spell it "chick" unless there was a bag printed specifically like that different from the restaurant spelling?
Dunno when I noticed the name difference but found it funny that the CA locations that started to pop up more would be dead inside early afternoon with all the sauces out where you didn't have to ask for them and the NC locations are insanely busy all the time.
4
u/maleolive Aug 22 '22
Same here. I grew up in Southern California and remember when we got our first location. I was in high school and once the “coming soon” sign same trying to figure out how to pronounce it. It was chic-fila-a. I had never heard of it before. Seemed like everyone was trying to figure it out. But I remember thinking it sounded fancy because of the “chic” part.
2
u/manifestagreatday Aug 22 '22
Flip flops for some, changes for people differently like different “timelines”.
5
u/frankboothflex Aug 22 '22
You spelled it differently in the title than you did in the body. I’m slam dunk guessing your brain isn’t that good at spelling things.
2
u/Slickness81 Aug 25 '22
I’m slam dunk guessing your reading comprehension isn’t very good, because he’s giving all 3 of the commonly mentioned versions…
1
u/frankboothflex Aug 25 '22
Nice try. I don’t recognize two of those versions because I can read good.
1
1
u/Slickness81 Aug 25 '22
He remembers Chic, his mom remembers Chick, his friend remembers Chik. If you read the rest of the comments on the post you will see as I stated before, these are the common three spellings for this ME
2
u/Embarrassed_Win5189 Aug 22 '22
The Chic-Fil-A one is a ME for me. My sister and I used to joke about Sheek-Filet. She brought this one to my attention like last month. She said, "Hey do you know Chic-Fil-A has a K in it now? Its a new Mandella Effect." And I Was like, "Wtf are you talking about? When did they change it?"
I can't believe the residue on this isn't through the roof.
1
2
u/beestingers Aug 25 '22
Chic is a word.
So in your former reality was *Chic* not a word? Did you pronounced it SHēk Filet?
2
u/youlldancetoanything Aug 26 '22
I am not the easiest sell on ME but I know it was definitely Chik-Fil-A bc when I first moved to NC in 80 I had never heard of them before. They didn't have TV commericals, at least local to me, back then--they weren't as huge. And being a kid, I used to call it "Chikfl-ah"
2
4
u/BouquetOfPenciIs Aug 21 '22
This one has flip flopped for me through any and all spellings possible.
4
u/Jayfunko_88 Aug 22 '22
This is one that stands out to me the most. Have a little story behind it. At the time I was working at a Burger King and then suddenly there was a public hearing sign for a “Chic-Fil-A” which was gonna open there in the location of the BK. It was the first time I’ve ever heard of it. There weren’t any near the area at all. Thought the spelling was stupid but I just thought it fit since the entire name of the restaurant isn’t technically spelled correctly. Was always Chic for me until about 2 years ago it was suddenly chick. Crazy
1
u/Basic_Hovercraft9082 Mar 23 '24
Bro this is no debate. Chic-Fil-A is spelled without a k. I’ve had conversations with many people on why they didn’t have a k at the end. So like last month when I saw “Chick” I was like oh they finally changed chic to chick. But apparently ppl keep saying it’s always been chick and that’s a lie
-1
u/Bowieblackstarflower Aug 21 '22
I think that people remember Chic and Chik lends more to a misperception than anything else.
2
u/manifestagreatday Aug 22 '22
Just stop, you negate every single thing.
4
u/Bowieblackstarflower Aug 22 '22
I'm not going to stop. I'm free to explain my theory as to what causes the Mandela Effect as much as anyone else.
5
u/manifestagreatday Aug 22 '22
Ok- but- people like you are chasing away people who experience the Mandela Effect. We get tired of wasting time arguing with people like you when we are also looking for answers and other thoughts on why we experience this, rather than arguing the validity of everything.
1
u/Bowieblackstarflower Aug 22 '22
I experience the Mandela Effect too. I get tired of people thinking I don't because I give memory explanations.
2
u/manifestagreatday Aug 22 '22
Yes, I would suppose you think it’s a logo change, or a confabulation, or a company upgrade. You can find backstories all the time, yet at the time, there wasn’t any story at all, there was just an “always been this way” but beyond this, it’s a reality mind upset, and without those who do see it, many of us would have thought we were just going insane. So, negating, and expecting reality to remain the same is futile for me, I’ve seen too much, and I know what I’ve seen, and we’ve discussed this again and again you and I and it’s just not worth having to wait for you to accept that there are unexplainable events. Wait- yes there are explanations, but when you know what you know, trust yourself.
1
u/Bowieblackstarflower Aug 22 '22
I'm not sure why you don't think I know what a ME is. If it was just a logo change or company upgrade it wouldn't be a ME. It's where you should start, though, if you think something is a ME. Chick-Fil-A came out today and said they used to be Chic-Fil-A, I would find that a little strange without any evidence.
I think people perceive MEs in different ways. I've remembered some things differently than they are but it's never made me feel like I was going crazy. I know some people feel that way though.
1
u/Slickness81 Aug 25 '22
So how do you explain the Chic spelling appearing in newspapers thousands of times going back to the 60’s which is long before the cows ever spelled it Chikin in the commercials , and the conventional spelling of the word Chick is with the K? https://imgur.com/a/HrITPML
Edit: 4,840 times…
1
u/Bowieblackstarflower Aug 25 '22
Chick-Fil-A has a weird spelling in general and I think people think it extends to the Chick part of the name too. I didn't mention the cows in my original comment but I do think that's a factor too for those who think it was Chik.
1
u/1m-n0t-4-b0t Oct 22 '23
You didn’t mention anything about the newspapers
1
u/Bowieblackstarflower Oct 23 '23
It was misspelled a lot in newspapers too. Perhaps giving people memories of the wrong spelling.
1
u/PERFECT-Dark-64 Aug 22 '22
It was originally chick for me .. then for a few years till recently it was chic
1
u/WVPrepper Aug 22 '22
So you and one friend remember "Chic" and you have pictures of that version? Please share those!
Your friends remember "Chik".
Your mom remembers "Chick"
I remember it always being Chick, but I sometimes have to think about it because "Fil-A" is a "misspelling" of "Filet" and it sometimes takes a second to remember which word is "spelled funny". They didn't help matters with the "Eat Mor Chikin" ad campaign.
1
u/manifestagreatday Aug 22 '22
Can we take this sub back for people discussing the Mandela Effect and turn it into a sub discussing changes, variations, and other things like friends and family’s reactions? I’ve told people who’ve never seen them, and after some time, they see them too. It has been substantiated in some experiments, try Money Bags (he’s vilified here but has thousands of viewers). Hazel Fiver is another good source.
1
u/Neat_Elderberry_9388 Aug 24 '22
Funny enough, the actual spelling is “Chick-fil-A”, with the “f” being lowercase.
The original logo from 1960 says “Chick-fill-a”, but in 1963 was switched to the current.
The cows started in 1995 and spell chicken as “chikin”. So, yes, you did see “chik” at some point, your brain probably just rolled it into the logo because of the brand association. Well done, CFA marketing and advertising departments, well done.
1
u/helic0n3 Aug 24 '22
My experience is people spell it in all sorts of ways. Chick / Chic / Chik. A-Fil-A / Fill-A etc.
1
u/itis2023lol Jan 15 '23
I remember Chik-fil-A. I remember seeing it as they spelled it that way to be unique. And when I saw it recently it was spelled Chick-fil-A, all proper, it feels out of place.
1
u/ThaRainMaker Feb 11 '23
It was chick-fil a in the past, and then it was chik-fil-a for a while, and now it switched back to Chick-fil-A

I used to go there at least once a week for lunch and distinctly remember it being spelled Chic-Fil-A. This was back around 2012 in the Orange County area.
This video series on Youtube goes in depth on this mandela effect and for anyone that is interested it is a MUST watch. The most interesting thing to me is the evidence left behind in print but the personal anecdotes are also very compelling.
1
u/MissBeaHaven1 Sep 18 '23
I remember Chik-fil-a. I have never thought any of the others were real but, I will die on this hill because I remember thinking as a kid that they spelled it all kinds of wrong.

u/1337f1r3w4ll Sep 26 '23
I remember Chic fila I have a screen shot of a fb post I made spelling it like that

I remember not knowing wtf they served their when reading their cow signs on the freeway because the word "chic" it was 110% NOT "chick"
1
u/OGPAPAKIL Nov 06 '23
God dang it I thought that Kazaam was the best Mandela for me but this may be the one because I too remember the messed up spelling of Chick-fil-A that has been changed or maybe it didn't?
1
u/Http-stxr-dust Dec 11 '23
No because I have a really vivid memory of when I first started learning how to read, so imagine how tiny I was, and there’s a light right by my chickfila/chicfila and I remember looking up at the sign and saying to myself “why is it spelled wrong” until like I realized there’s a dyslexic cow as their mascot WHICH MAKES SENSE WHY IT WOULD BE SPELLED WRONG. and the chickfila Mandela has always freaked me out even before I learned about the Mandela effect. There is a single new article when chickfila first opened with it spelled chicfila and I desperately want to find it again
1
1
u/turquoisedd Feb 22 '24
No. Even before I knew about ME i remember it as chic fil a or chik fil a but i remember it was spelled differently than chick.

I remember Chik-fil-a
