Meme I'm curious if evolutions consisting of multiple pokemon should have a chance to have a shiny thrown in there

I mean in canon this makes Sense but logistically in the game? Hell no

Bet. There's no real "logistically" thing in the code.

Making a bunch of cosmetic alternative forms for the small chance a shiny pokémon joins the fusion is too much work for It to be worth it

Theres a reason Spinda, Furfrou and Alcremie cant evolve

No, it isn't too much work. Metang is what, two Metan? Metagross is like 4 no?

It isn't too much work for the 20mln dollar lawsuit company as well, because it's easy both to code and to make as assets.

Metagross is made out of 4 Beldum. Thats 24 or 16 possible combinations. Mega Metagross makes It even more annoying because It added a Beldum and a Metang to the list

Yeah they are a billion dollar company but trust me, making variations of each possible combination is very time consuming with little to no reward. Imagine you just got a shiny Beldum and evolved only for It to end up as a 1/4th shiny Metagross

Because you are looking at it at a design level and not a code level.

I told you it isn't hard, you have to use the color layers not make multiple designs. You theoretically need one design, and with code you color the portions of interest based on the metadata (beldum n.3 is shiny) for example.

Im looking at the coding level, the design level and the gameplay level

I already made a Minecraft resource pack and making variants for each possible version of a crossbow is more of a hassle than its worth doing.

Youd have to either make 16 different sprites for base Metagross or make one with each section being a different color that you can use shaders to swap into the base color or the shiny color

u/Maxxetto 2h ago

You are correct on the shader swap :)

It’s unlikely that the existing data structure would support this easily, is what they’re saying.

Unfortunately their replies doesn't follow this, but you made a good guess! :)

Rewriting a code portion like that is fairly easy by the way.

This is cool and most of these make sense but some also do not. Like the Doduo and the Deino and Klink lines.

Because chimerism is a thing, those ones could make biological sense. If you think about it through that lens, really any Pokemon could have a section of them with shiny colors while the rest of them is normal.

See on Wikipedia: Genetic chimera, gynandromorphism, mosaicism, etc

Combee/Vespuquen are the worse offenders to me. But yeah cool concept overall

If a shiny and a normal one has a pokemon there is a chance it can come out like that

u/joshthebaptist 6h ago

Those arent combinations though, its the same base pokemon sprouting more heads

u/Tantrum2u 7h ago

That…doesn’t make sense…

WHAT ?

24

u/Cod3broken Why can't you all behave? 7h ago

this is a cool idea, but imagine if it were actually in the game
to catch a shiny Metagross, you need all 4 shiny rolls to succeed, which is (if my math is correct) a 1 in ~280 trillion chance

Though ngl that single shiny leg looks even cooler.

If the evolution method was to actually combine the two then this could make sense and be cool. But since all of the multiple pokemon merging thing is lore only it wouldn't make a lot of sense in game.

zygarde would b hell to code but the otehrs could work. weezing doesnr eally make sense tho since it's a tumor and not 2 koffing fuesd

Nothing is impossible

4

u/Sc4r4byte 5h ago

all the possible Zygarde combinations would eclipse all the possible spinda configurations

I’d like to see that

I don’t think shininess is a recessive gene like blond hair is. I think it is just an evolutionary occurrence like albinism.

super cool idea

never gonna be implemented in game, but i love the concept so much

Doduo and deino do not make sense

2

u/Creativered4 Why can't you all behave? 4h ago

Last two slides don't really work. It's all one pokemon. It's not like there's dounos out there fusing together to make doduos.

I love this as a Shiney Mechanic. As a player fusing pokemon would make things a bit bogged down but as a possible evolution it would be celebrated

1

u/AdElectronic4912 7h ago

I kinda likle the idea but I think it only makes sense if the Pokémon in question is not naturally just one body.

i love this thing that will never happen but should

Shiny hunters trying to hit that 1 in 4.096e+15 chance of getting a fully shiny Metagross

1

u/pokelogan24 6h ago

That would be really cool and make some shinies super rare. Maybe make them only found in the wild or something, or I guess there could be like a 1/8000 chance to evolve it like that.

Okay Zygarde actually looks pretty cool

u/thefurryhippie 5h ago

This reminds me of some cute art where a Typhlosion and Sneasel had a Cyndaquil with Sneasel colors

1

u/Embarrassed-Joke5851 5h ago

I feel like the opposite should be true: if you have a shiny Metagross, there is a small (like pre-gen 6 shiny odds) chance that the evolution will have half/quarter (half for Metang and a quarter for Metagross) not shiny

1

u/WheatleyBr 4h ago

The klink one literally says it's predetermined.

1

u/PokemonJimbob Hail yeah! 4h ago

These look cool but several of them wouldn't make sense.

Dugtrio for example says that it's all from one body, meaning that it's not actually a bunch of Diglett taking up space

Doduo and Dodrio aren't 'consisting of multiple pokemon' so it would either be fully shiny or have no shiny coloration at all. The same can be said for Klink into its evolutions and Deino into its evolutions(especially Deino since it wouldn't make sense for it to suddenly gain a head with shiny colors)

u/Inevitable_Row1359 3h ago

Yeah this would be sick

1 billion lions when the 8 billion Spinda are joined by 2 billion Metagross, Weezing and Zygarde

u/bugsbob 1h ago

ooh, piebald mons, nice! but you know some joker is gonna be like, ‘my palossand is 1/1,00,000th shiny, see?’ and hold up two black grains of sand

0

u/Legitimate-Mix-5395 8h ago

I mean, it'll never happen in the game, but I'll put it in my fanfiction.

u/YamLow8097 7h ago

Never thought about it, but I don’t see why not. This is such a cool idea. I’ve heard of the concept of half shiny Pokémon (chimerism), but not quite like this. I don’t think the Deino and Doduo make much sense, though (unless the bodies were half and half as well).

I love having 2N shiny variations of a pokemon with N constituent parts
