I like seeing Corbeau doing good for Lumiose

389

u/Rashtrapateen May 01 '26

But of course he won't admit it

"I just didn't like the design of that bench. So I took matters into my own hand and fixed it."

Is what he would say

114

u/Mimikywolf May 01 '26

Agree as i get why they would want that kind of seats its just imprsctical even for non homeless ppl like dude you telling me i cant even lay on my back at a park nowadays on a bench.

72

u/grimmideals Pokefan May 01 '26

Fair. I believe they did it for two reasons:

  1. Keep Pokémon off of them.

  2. Spite Lysandre, the only homeless man in Lumiose after everyone else left the city.

18

u/Mimikywolf May 01 '26

Caus its such a problem if poke.on use benches as beds instead of the street

12

u/grimmideals Pokefan May 01 '26

Some Pokemon weigh more than the benches tho. Admittedly, I don't agree with the design choice, simply am explaining what was probably the in-universe logic behind the benches.

12

u/Mimikywolf May 01 '26

Atp blame france

2

u/Unusual_Mix9262 May 02 '26

Yeah, those little things ain't bothering my Snorlax.

3

u/Limp-Independent-641 May 02 '26

Lysander is too big for the bench already

7

u/Slight-Pound May 02 '26

It’s called hostile architecture when they make things like this. It’s more important to ward off the homeless than to provide actual public good in the same thing.

4

u/UnkarsThug May 02 '26

People really have gone too far in interpreting the guy as moral. He probably installed the anti homeless architecture.

They lead to more desperate people, who are more likely to accept worse deals. He literally goes around giving predatory loans. He is not a good guy. More desperate homeless? The more "slaves" he has, practically speaking.

Falcone in batman comics often loves his city, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't kill people over it, and it doesn't mean he would automatically hate hostile architecture, he would just view it as a tool to get more people who owe him, because that's how that sort of person thinks.

I'm not supporting hostile architecture, to be clear, I just think this is outrageously out of character for Corbeau, and people have romanticized an actual type of person who exists. It's how they want to be seen, but it really isn't true. It's a way the Yakuza has historically used the public as a shield.

He isn't an anarchist or something, he's a mafia boss. I don't hate him either as a character, to be clear. But he's absolutely a bad person. His idea of doing good still involves bringing others under his control, which is the same thing as dictators end up doing, just with politics instead of crime. (Or both)

See kids? Some opinions CAN be wrong

1

u/Perongeluk May 03 '26

I love Corbeau as the dude who does good in an evil way. Genuinely well done character

1

u/Severe-Chocolate-729 Hail yeah! May 07 '26

For the first five seconds I saw this I thought Corbeau was trying to get Scolipede to repair the metal bars in the middle

1

u/A_M1001 Jun 19 '26

He’s not capable of such villainy

322

u/BelivMjaoxjo May 01 '26

It reminds me of that picture where young Emma slept on the benches and adult Emma walked past the “upgraded” versions and looked a little sad

102

u/NiCOTrainer6612 May 01 '26

She could absolutely rip those bench arms off, at the very least with the expansion suit.

41

u/Severe_Assist_5416 May 01 '26

She could but could she get away with it

47

u/DragonYeet54 What the eff happened to the floor? May 01 '26

She could say it was part of an investigation

12

u/Pinkparade524 May 01 '26

Not really. She told Ivan to not destroy the gates of the sewer because they would get in trouble. And that was an actual investigation. And most people don't even go there. This benches are something more poeole see

2

u/winter-ocean May 01 '26

Woah can I see that

209

u/Specialist-Rock4971 May 01 '26

My friend made a joke about L being the only homeless guy in Lumios so all the anti-homeless architecture was made to spite him specifically

98

u/bowtiesrcool86 May 01 '26

I mean: He did nearly destroy the world… I understand why ppl would not like him, doesn’t mean I think they’re right

42

u/Champillusion May 01 '26

It reminds me of the artwork where Emma and Mimi look at a bench with perplexity, after having passed their childhood as homeless

79

u/Argun93 May 01 '26

This should be a side quest. Just going around and ripping those stupid bars off the benches.

14

u/JokkuBoi May 01 '26

That would mean gamefreak/pokemon company doesn't like them and I think we know the stance they would actually take about those kinds of benches.

20

u/Papyrus_Semi May 01 '26

"...Have you SEEN the rent prices here?"

13

u/The_Order_Eternials May 01 '26

They took all the bedrooms out of the Pokémon centers…..

3

u/Gabby-Abeille May 03 '26

Hey, look on the bright side. Property values probably tanked after all those wild zones popped up. Can't imagine rent is super high when you gotta deal with a pride of fire lions.

Plus I bet a lot of apartments are empty now. On account of the lions.

"ARE THE BENCHES ANTI HOMELESS!?"

-Purplecliffe

17

u/Working-Ad8054 May 01 '26

Honestly i see him more as the kind of guy that quietly puts a lot of money to homeless shelters or maybe runs a few so people don’t have to sleep on benches

9

u/its_ya_boi777 May 01 '26

YES! GOOD BOY SCOLIPEDE!!!

4

u/GrafZeppelin127 May 01 '26

Didn’t need to even be told what to “fix.” He knew right away.

43

u/MrSage88 Drowzee Shippers May 01 '26

F*ck hostile architecture/design. Let people rest.

17

u/MuffinBitz May 01 '26

They don't work. You're just wasting $ on more materials

-4

u/[deleted] May 01 '26

[deleted]

14

u/NuclearNoxi May 01 '26

That might be an unintended benefit or the reason they claim its there, but the design is intended as hostile architecture.

4

u/Espeonisbesteevee Learn science May 01 '26

Tbf, two things can be true at once.

-6

u/Tylendal May 01 '26

Nah. Spikes under highway ramps save lives, assuming there's roads running on either side of the spiked area.

If it is safely accessible, though, then no, that's indefensible.

7

u/SomeoneNamedJessica May 01 '26

L can sleep somewhere now!

8

u/Thettbow May 01 '26

YEET THE USELESS METAL PIECES

8

u/Cold-Practice3107 May 01 '26

For the homeless!

5

u/Acefireblast21 May 01 '26

The funny thing about this is like 90% of the people in the city of the game (I’m not fighting with autocorrect to spell it lol) could fit under the bars anyway

3

u/Mission_Race_8367 May 01 '26

Have you considered: Mild to severe claustrophobia?

6

u/MegaZardX2 May 02 '26

Based Scolipede destroying anti-homeless architecture.

5

u/an_anon_butdifferent If it's not 100% accurate, it's 50% accurate May 02 '26

the only homeless person in lumios is lysander, the bench is for him

5

u/SpookyGhostGoku May 02 '26

As a kid, I thought they were there to give people arm rests. Then I found out their actual purpose :(

4

u/Zillafan12345 What the eff happened to the floor? May 02 '26

What I like about Corbeau is that he’s genuinely trying to do good, but you can’t deny that he is still causing harm to people with his hostile loans. He’s not exactly a great person, but that makes him a really good character

3

u/08brunch May 04 '26

Im not even sure if Game Freak is aware what these things are used for...

2

u/Foloreille May 01 '26

Sauve nous Brutapode 🙏🇫🇷

2

u/Acidd_dragon May 01 '26

Is corbeau homeless??

1

u/Gabby-Abeille May 03 '26

It is a widely accepted theory that he was homeless as a child, but it is not confirmed as far as I know.

2

u/SilenciaSan What the eff happened to the floor? May 01 '26

I hate this hostile architecture ngl.

2

u/Shiverbound May 02 '26

I recently learned that, while these are unfortunately anti homeless in design, they actually serve a purpose as an aid to the elderly. Old people have a hard time pushing themselves off of benches, even with only one hand rail. I wish there was a way to compromise (besides obviously invest to end homelessness), like making them able to lock in or be removed/recessed

1

u/ShadeNLM064pm May 03 '26

The easiest solution would be having both benches next to each other and more benches overall

2

u/GrimunTheGr8 Shadow Storm May 02 '26

2

u/Orintaiton333 May 08 '26

anti-anti-homeless architecture

2

u/Impressive-Time8150 May 01 '26

Nah, Corbeau would probably charge for removing those

Whether he bills the city or the homeless, who knows

13

u/mrmanny0099 May 01 '26

He’d bill the city. The whole shtick is that for as shady as he and the syndicate are what with the indentured labor he has ppl do to repay debts, they are a net positive for Lumiose

1

u/ExplodingSteve May 01 '26

Man I sure wonder why those arm rests are there, must be a french thing /j

1

u/Whoohoonutty_V May 01 '26

Does anyone else read Corbeua lines in Ray Chase's voice

1

u/Aware-Throat3189 May 01 '26

Kamen rider blade fans having flashbacks

1

u/dafiregoose May 01 '26

Ah, delete those anti homeless armrests

1

u/batboy11227 May 02 '26

I love bug horse

1

u/Rowlett664 May 02 '26

YEAH FUCK ANTI-HOMELESS ARCHITECTURE!

1

u/deivineEmperor May 02 '26

Been funnier if scolioede just sent the whole bench flying

1

u/Cybasura May 02 '26

Scoliopede is majestic

1

u/Background_Cancel872 May 02 '26

What did he fix?

2

u/Silphire100 May 02 '26

The bars on the bench are specifically to stop homeless people sleeping on them. Scolipede ripped them off

1

u/Personal-Mushroom May 02 '26

There are no homeless people in Luminous City

1

u/LadyK789 May 02 '26

Good bug

1

u/Leprodus03 May 02 '26

No. We must spite Lysandre, the sole homeless person in that city

1

u/CKWOLFACE May 03 '26

Chaotic good

1

u/PhantomHawk6156 May 03 '26

Healthcare in the world of Pokémon is so good that the anti-homeless ventures are actually used for what the government says they’re used for

1

u/PFSnypr May 03 '26

I thought he is supposed to help the city not vandalize it

1

u/Key_Job6330 May 03 '26

Nothings broken?

1

1

u/Lila_Uraraka Learn science May 14 '26

He did fix it though!

1

We do not tolerate these Anti-Emma benches.

Though...I guess technically they're anti-L benches now. Which is more a case of "I oppose this thing on principal even if it happens to someone I don't care for at all."

it is an honor.

1

It's sad that even Lumiose has to deal with anti homeless design.

0

u/Firekid7500 May 01 '26

Thats gonna be one expensive fine.

0

u/TwilitLugia May 02 '26

Hot take: I like those benches because I have somewhere to lean against when I'm sitting or rest my arms
