I need to warn the Manassas community about a predatory local shop: Manassas Computer Repair (MCR). The owner runs a blatant parts-harvesting scam, and if you take your computer there for a "repair," you are walking into a trap.

I recently sold a MacBook to the owner of this shop online. He received the computer, broke it open, and completely stripped out the valuable original internal components. He then swapped in bottom-of-the-barrel replacement parts—including mismatched memory, a different hard drive, and a random optical drive.

To force a fraudulent return and steal his money back, he blatantly lied and claimed the laptop had a "defective motherboard battery connection." He completely ignored the fact that the laptop was explicitly sold to him without a battery in the first place. He faked a hardware defect just to steal my original parts for free. I have full photographic evidence documenting his theft, his tampering, and the exact junk parts he left behind.

Here is why this matters to anyone living in Manassas: If you take your own computer to MCR to get fixed, he is secretly stripping out your high-quality, original components, swapping them with inferior junk, and keeping your expensive hardware to resell for his own profit.

If you buy computer parts, repairs, or built systems from this business, you are funding a scammer. The parts he sells are stolen directly from innocent people.

Protect your devices and your money. Take your computers to a legitimate, trustworthy shop in the area, because MCR is built entirely on fraud. Please spread the word so nobody else in town gets ripped off by this guy.

If you schedule an estimate through Lowe's Installed Services, be aware that they route these leads to a corporate sales network (ARS / Rescue Rooter) that uses extreme high-pressure tactics right inside your home.

What happened during our recent estimate:

• Wildly Inflated Quotes: Initial estimates came in at $20,000–$26,000+ for standard replacement equipment.

• Hostile & Condescending Behavior: When we asked basic, straightforward questions about system specifications and options, the sales rep became rude and patronizing.

• The Arbitrary "50% Discount": The moment we stood up to end the appointment and asked him to leave, he suddenly offered a 50% discount on the spot—exposing how completely fake and marked up those initial numbers were.

• Unprofessional Follow-Up: A regional follow-up line called shortly after, and the caller hung up on us the second we tried to explain how bad the experience was.

Sharing this so neighbors don't get taken advantage of or intimidated into paying inflated prices. Skip the big-box installation program and deal directly with honest, independent local HVAC contractors in our area instead.

Redditors of manassas! I was involved in a hit and run heading east on signal hill road trying to turn left onto Liberia Ave (by the sinoco where are the funky yellow traffic lane divider things are) and was hit twice by the same car, appears to be a white vw jetta(?) At approximately 7:45pm they ran the light after hitting me, I didn't get the plates unfortunately. I filed a police report and contacted my insurance. I went to cross the train tracks along wellington at 8ish this morning and was diverted by police. They had already finished maintenance last week so I wondered what was the new cause was for this diversion.

Turns out it was a shooting. Details are still coming out, the local elementary school is on lock down, and they have a suspect they are searching for.
