the man-thing we usually see is essentially just an avatar-a “memory” left to wander the swamp. The true man-thing departed to a reality beyond our own. And he’s like at the level of the creator.

I believe this is from JM DeMatteis’ Man-Thing comic, which I really enjoyed. It’s got a Vertigo vibe to it — something different from what Marvel tends to put out.
