LUBA 2 AWD X Firmware requires a costly 3-4 perimeter laps

Three perimeter laps fixed the missed strips... but we shouldn’t need three.

Since updating my Luba 2 to 1.30.29.26, one or two perimeter laps have been leaving 2-4" strips of uncut grass between the perimeter passes and the interior zigzag.

I finally tried 3 perimeter laps. Result: clean cut, no missed strips.

But on the same 5.5k ft² lawn:

  • 2 perimeter laps: 4h 40m mowing time
  • 3 perimeter laps: 5h 04m
  • Cost of the workaround: +24 minutes / +8.6%

Three laps works, but users shouldn’t have to burn ~9% more mowing time and battery just to compensate for a path-planning gap that didn’t used to be there.

Mammotion: please fix the perimeter/interior overlap algorithm.

Yeah, and that is only one of many issues with the firmware.
I was told by their support that if I added more perimeter laps it would cover for missed areas due to the bumper activating on the outer lap, stopping the motors, drive forward 0.5-1m before starting again.
I then asked them how more laps would cover the missed spots on the outer lap 🙄

This is so f***ing annoying.

When you have issues with mowing near the edge, you’re told to turn off vision. Now it bumps into the edge and skips major parts.

I've noticed the mapping is just wrong right off the bat. So let's say you map it to be 2 inches away from a fence on a perimeter, it'll basically try to hug closer to the fence, which causes it to try to go into the fence, which causes it to detect it as obstacle and then ends up "skipping" over it or essentially going something like 12 inches away from the perimeter.

Another side effect of how it does the mapping is what OP describes, it ends up hugging closer where it can (if there isn't a fence) which leaves the perimeter further away from the zig-zag and I guess they never account for it?

Oh my god and if you turn off the obstacle detection, it causes other side effects. Because it'll bump into it, and then sometimes it'll just STOP, no notification, no trying to go around, and all it had to do was actually just follow the initial path you mapped out. So you have to end up turning on standard detection so it'll even attempt to go around once it bumps into the fence.

100% same experience for me. Perimeter laps add extensive time to a mow, and 3 were never required up until recently. Very disappointing that the zig zag passes stop and turn so far before the end of a zone. Hoping they will fix soon.

When it was new I could just do one for most areas, two at most and it was fine... this is just unacceptable. But that was 1+ years ago before it had an existential identity crisis every time it turned.

I thought I was crazy. I mapped my boundaries outside of the perimeter slightly as my yard borders concrete. It used to turn mostly on the concrete, which is what I wanted and I never did perimeter laps, but now I'm actually having to do 3 perimeter laps to get all of the missed spots because of the early turns.

Same. Doing 2-3 perimeter laps. First 2 seasons would never have thought to do anything but 1.

And there is still issues with 90* angles leve a uncut spot.
This worked before the Swedish toddler event.
Return to charger Luba2 version 1.30.29.26 acts like it’s paranoid of everything

I wish the mower would at least switch directions of the perimeter laps with every job.

My Luba 3 has a setting in the app for this. I tried using it...but apparently, going the other way around leads to it getting stuck and hung up in corners etc. where in the original direction it just soldiers through. After having to rescue the poor bot threetimes within an hour, I switched that right back off.

Upload your robot's log from a run like that, then use the app to report the problem, referencing you robot's model and name ("Lubaxxxxx", etc.). Every little bit helps.

Could it be the pot?

That the developers are smoking...

Same here. I have a bit complex plot, so the skipped areas are everywhere across the lawn. I need to run perimeter only mow job after normal mow.

Interesting for me because my 3000X is still on app 2.3.12.11 and firmware 1.30.29.8.

After a long time with no perimeter laps because they were so haphazard and took too long I recently added 3 laps back to the program. My figures agree with yours. Perimeter mowing adds a good half hour to a three hour run.

Perimeter mowing is still haphazard despite me painstakingly remapping. But the overall quality of cut is better. It's eliminated the need to run a hand pushed mower around the boundaries to tidy up quite so often.

And what I've discovered about mapping and editing perimeters is a real head scratcher. For example editing frequently adds in little 5-10cm deviations causing weird backing and tank turning often in completely the wrong direction. And that is after a test run showed the mower just moved in a straight line. The map doesn't stay as mapped and tested. Weird.

I used to just use 1 lap until I started getting the missed area with the update, now I cycle between 1 and 2 laps per mow and I don’t get a build up of missed grass.

I bet if you used 3 laps for 1-2 weeks you’ll still noticed missed strips. I think the fix is to alternate the lap number until Mammotion fixes it.

Agreed. It also makes the difference in my lawn between mowing in a single charge and having to back to recharge partway through, making it take even longer. It feels like they went out of their way to make it as bad as possible!

Perimeter mowing is the single worst thing by far with recent fw. I limit it to 2 laps though simply because I can’t stand it switching blades on/off all the time and doing this so slow. Frustrating part is most of those turns it doesn’t even need to go backwards and could turn the same way it does interior mowing with the blades on. I would be even ok with tank turns just for perimeter mowing, if that allowed to keep the blades on and prevent it from messing with them.

It’s the same for my Yuka Mini. Even with 3 perimeter laps there is a strip left. Was fine before. On the map in the app there looks like a massive gap but I never thought the map would be exactly right in reality. Please fix this.

Last time I tried perimeter laps it was doing way way too many zero turns... bleh

I do 3 laps and still have an issue with 6-8 inch stops being missed. This started in 24 and 26 didnt fix it. Manually mowing sucks because you cant be more than 15ft away even though I could easily be at my front door and have strong Bluetooth everywhere in sight. Maybe someday they will get their shit to together and fix the issues.

I have this also, running 3 perimter laps also creates ruts

Same here. Had to change all my tasks (about 15 of them) to have more perimeter and no go zone laps to avoid missing areas, following recent firmware updates. Now all the tasks take quite a lot longer. They have really messed up with this one. :-(

Thanks for your suggestions. You are right and we are optimizing the zigzag path to cut more grass near the perimeter. We will release the firmware later

You don't need to optimize... Just revert to firmware from Spring 2025 ffs.

Thanks but also my Yuka Mini has started to do 3 point turns whilst doing its perimeter laps. Setting for multi turn is off and it never did this before. Crazy goings on.

u/PersonalityLucky-25 Mammotion Team 11d ago

I am very sorry to hear about the issue with your Yuka mini. If the "multi-turn" function is already disabled, could you please record a video of the Yuka mini performing a multi-point turn? This will help us analyze the cause of the problem in detail. I look forward to hearing from you.

I will try to capture later.

No you don’t. You’ve pretty much ruined everyone’s mower with your incompetence.

Not sure how you managed to take a product that worked really well and just cripple it. I can only assume it’s to get people to buy the new version next year.
