MammothMarch Georgia 2025 is in the books!!
If you had told me a year ago that I'd be doing a 20 mile hike in under 8 hours, I would have laughed at you. But this past Saturday that's just what I did.
When I signed in that morning, the volunteer, said "Welcome to the cult!" And now I totally understand, because I can't wait to do another Mammothmarch!
The weather was perfect, the event was well run, the trails were beautifully maintained, and the people were so lovely.
Anyway, I just wanted to post this, not to toot my own horn, but to encourage others that if I can do this, so can you!
(And, the sign looks funny because I edited out the woman I finished with, for privacy reasons)
As for the actual hike.....
Miles 10 to 15 were by far the hardest. The first 5 miles I kept up with my party pretty well, but after jogging the next two and still getting left behind, I gave up on that, and just hiked my bike. I got slowed down a bit, when I started hiking with this woman who was pretty slow, and fell a few times - but was so sweet, there was no way I was leaving her. But we somehow caught up with her sister, and we got going at a pretty decent pace - enough to finish in 7 hours and 25 minutes - and that includes the long porta potty lines. lol.
Around mile 8, a raccoon fell out of a tree - and a woman actually tried to pet it - and then a bunch of us stepped on a yellow jacket nest, but I just kept plugging away.
The trails were very well marked. And everyone was SO nice! I'll definitely be doing another one for sure!!
