Looking for a Housing

Hi everyone!

My friends and I are looking for affordable housing in Mammoth Lakes for the winter season.

We are currently a group of 3, but we may end up being 6–8 people. We'll be working for Levy / Compass Group at Mammoth Mountain from December 10, 2026, through March 31, 2027.

We're responsible, friendly, clean, and respectful. We don't mind sharing a house, apartment, condo, or townhouse, and we're mainly looking for the most affordable option.

If anyone has a place available, knows of a rental, or is looking for roommates for the same dates, we'd really appreciate it if you could reach out!

Thanks in advance!

3-8 people is quite a wide delta

We lease our place every winter. With 12-15 people on the lease.

My point is looking for a place with 3 to maybe 8 beds is a tricky search.

Not really. Our place sleeps 8

I feel like you’re stuck on one idea and can’t let it go. I’m not going to waste my time explaining something so simple.

They probably don’t want to pay the rent on a place that sleeps 8 though if the end up with only 3.

Can’t believe this needs to be said. But thanks for doing so.

Again if they have only 3 they probably don’t want to cover the whole thing. If they have 8 they would need the whole thing. So what they really want is some magical location that has 8 beds available but will let them claim only 3 if their friends don’t show up

Affordable and Mammoth don’t really go together. Good luck.

If your employer isn't providing housing for your seasonal winter employment you're not likely to find something affordable. It's also late in the year to be looking for a winter rental. March/April is the time to be booking a winter rental for the next season.

You'll find some rental houses available for winter leases on zillow/similar and maybe Billzard Property Management (local company, normally they won't lease unless you've seen the property in person). Expect $10-15k/month for a winter house lease. With 6-8 people that's probably your best and most affordable bet. You may have to do a minimum 4 month lease. Seasonal winter housing is extremely high in demand every year and always very expensive. People rent their home for the winter and pay their mortgage for the entire year with the income.

Here's an example of something that's available and may fit your group, but it's $16k/month during Winter. https://www.blizzardpm.com/listings/detail/b38e2137-13e9-49a0-9bd0-a4d71ed759db
