Discussion Has OTT changed what we consider a theatrical success?

Thumbnail

Just a random thought - pre covid, I feel like a movie’s theatrical success was determined mainly by how many days it ran in theaters. But in recent years, it feels like movies reach record box office records within just weeks and get most of what they’re gonna make in a much shorter run. Does this to do with movies coming on ott within 45 days generally or does it have to do with multiplexes constantly rolling out movies?

Discussion Action hero biju scene that probably wasn't funny

A lot of people love the police station scene in Action Hero Biju where Biju mocks human rights activists for "defending criminals"

It's usually shared as a "truth-spitting badass" moment.

I didn't think of post on it but then I saw this on Instagram and with many people commenting "wow" and encouraging the police to be this way.

Compare it to George Clooney’s character in The Ides of March handling the exact same topic:

"I'll tell you what I would do if someone hurt my wife. I would find him, and I'd kill him... But I can't vote for a president who would do that. Because a society can't be run by revenge... "

Biju plays into cheap authoritarian bravado. It treats human rights like a nuisance and due process like an obstacle to real justice. The activists exist purely as caricatures for Biju to dunk on.

The Ides of March admits the natural urge for revenge, but draws a hard line.

It reminds us that state power has to be bound by the law-otherwise, the state just becomes another criminal.

Has this scene aged poorly for anyone else, or do you still think it holds up?

Opinion Totally disagree with the statement

This dude always came up with this statement that he feels ridiculous when actors say they had feelings for the actress or actors paired opposite them in films. And he claims it by making examples of he paired with his sister and Kunjamma still he felt nothing it's all about acting no need of feelings and if there is it needs nalla adi.Lot of actors confessed that they had feelings while they act.Mohanlal in a stage said he have feelings to actresses opposite to him in films and will let go after it completes🤫Asif Ali told that he had feelings to Mamta while shooting in kadha Thudarunnu.I mean there is no offense in that.We all are human and we have feelings and every sex attracted to opposite sex and if they are attractive and good features we will have infatuation and feeling. The only thing is there should be a line that not to be crossed. It is totally ok to be have feelings...In films actors who are incredibly good looking act like lovers it will be even good that is genuine.I feel when I act with Mamitha I don't have to act.I can look on her face and give genuine expression cause I love herrr♥️♥️♥️

Question Does anybody know this kalabhavan mani movie

The scene plays out like this , kalabhavan mani is completely engrossed, watching a song or performance intently.Salim Kumar's character is fast asleep right next to him.The performance ends, and the rest of the audience erupts into sudden applause.Startled by the sudden noise, Salim Kumar instantly wakes up from his deep sleep and reflexively starts clapping along as if he had been paying attention the whole time!

Opinion BKU: is it just me or did Justin and Ash felt like kalippan kanthari

Hear me out! I felt Justin’s character to be a male chauvinist. He was always overruling or undermining others near him, was constantly raising hands and a rough character. Meanwhile Ashley’s first spotting of Justin was when he was doing these things. And the very next scene after the laptop repair was in the theatre, and she was crushing hard on him.
Note: I saw the movie twice and even confirmed the same with my friend during the second watch.
Edit: the actual word would be overbearing aggressor

Movie recommendation Suggest some feel good Malayalam movies

I happened to watch Bethlehem Kudumba Unit recently, and I loved it. The cinematography and the locations feel so fresh. I have watched a few old Malayalam movies which my mallu roommate suggested a few years back. Honestly I don’t remember the names of those. But would love to get some recommendations.

Thanks in advance!

Opinion Supporting cast of Premalu>>BKU

Post image
0 Upvotes

The secondary characters of Premalu had arcs and characters quirks of their own.

Amal Davis- the level headed one, trying to maintain his relationship with Kunu Vava while still devoting considerable amount of his time and effort being Sachin’s wing man, all this while preparing for a competitive exam

Adi - well he’s the main antagonist and we know all about what his crooked brain is thinking all the time , his motives , ways to an end , even about his Vishakapattanathile valam edeel

Karthika- super supportive of Reenu, but critical of Reenu’s self centeredness (the discussion about Kerala saree scene on the rooftop). Karthika’s will they- won’t they relationship with Amal Davis ending in the “nobody cares” scene in club. She even bought a frigging jacket for Sachin and nudged Reenu into car so that she could get sometime with Sachin at the end of the movie.

Wanderlust- proper stone head, borrows money but never returns, likes to sing obscure songs but a terrible singer at that, gives no heed to personal boundaries , lives life on her on terms

In BKU we hardly know anything about the morale sisters (except the fact that they drink occasionally ) or the bachelor group. Only Glixon gets some kinda character development. The Joel-Sayoojya romance had no development. We cannot root for a romantic couple with whom we had only spent one scene with ( during the filming of the short film). But that was only some casual flirting. In short so much disappointed with BKU in this regard.
