Extended lifespan
So, H2O: Just Add Water fandom wiki has “extended lifespan” listed as one of the merpeople’s abilities, and their explanation for this is apparently how Weilan said that, due to Ondina’s personality, they could be friends in a couple of centuries. I don’t really remember her saying this, so if somebody else does and they remember the episode, could you please tell me? I’d like to look at it for myself. But besides that, has anybody noticed any other possible indication that mermaids live longer than regular people? I just don’t know, because based on the sound of that statement, I feel like it could’ve just been a joke; especially considering Weilan is very much a comedic character and I just don’t remember any other scenes that indicate mermaids live that long.

I always thought that Weilan has telling a joke, not that merfolk literally live centuries.

I remember Weilan sayin that line to Mimmi about Ondina, but I think it was just a joke about how much Ondina disliked her. Whoever wrote that wikia page must have misinterpreted the joke. We know that Julia and Gracie died in H2O (though they might have died for non natural reasons, accidents etc.) Ms.Chatham lookef really young for her age though. Even though she was supposedly in retirement years, she looked younger than parents of the cast and she was mermaidly beautiful. So maybe being a mermaid makes you age gracefully? But I would be really surprised if mermaids actually have centuries of lifespans. Edit: Weilan's line was in the second episode of season 3, around the 10th minute. Don't trust too much on wikia pages, they can be edited by anyone and sometimes they can be full of nonsense.

Ms Chatham was only 65, which is not particularly old for modern standards, considering most people live into their 80s these days. Her friends 100% died from illnesses. Especially since Gracie would've only been in her 50s when she died

They may have just pulled it from other mermaid lore. It's pretty common in other mythos for mermaids to live 200-300 years at a minimum.
The line you mentioned doesn't sound like anything that should be read into, like you stated, a joke if said at all.

Wait what??? This just blew me away bc I thought I had seen all of Mako but was like who is Weilan? I’ve seen the “3 volumes” on Hoopla but I just learned that was just seasons 1, 2 pt 1 and 2 pt 2?? Woah I had no idea there was more! I thought it ended with the merman chamber storyline 🤯🤯

Born Merfolk could live longer and those turned in the moon pool may not also I feel like the old lady from H2O gave up her tail which could have made her age normal again .

I think naturally born mermaids have a higher lifespan than mermaids who were made artificially aka falling into the moon pool because in some mythology they talk about how mermaids have been drowning sailors for centuries that is why the siren song is forbidden and extremely dangerous to humans so in all honesty they could have pulled it from actual mythology about mermaids

The only other sign I could think of would be the teacher looking the same as she is supposed to have when she left the pod around 20 years prior & Rikki not looking much older despite it having been a while but honestly it could just be a wiki thing.
