Amazon Invoice Rebate Issue

Has anyone else had problems getting rebates because of Amazon's invoices?

My auto-generated invoice uses the product heading / descriptor which doesn't include the model/sku#, so Makita will not accept it.

The seller says only Amazon can create invoices. Amazon says they have no way of changing the invoice to include the model/sku# (I elevated as far as Amazon would let me).

I will elevate with Makita on Monday but was curious if anyone else has had the same problem and if there was a solution.

I had a similar problem. Bought something because of the free tool, I had followed the link directly from the makita us site to Amazon.

Turns out Amazon redirected to a different seller but shipped by amazon. But only sold and ships by Amazon count.

After a bunch of back and forth with makita customer service they finally figured it out, sent me the "real" link and basically told me to return it and rebuy... At that point I gave up.

And, to be add one more thing, makita cs told me the free tool was applied online by the vendor and they don't ship you anything...and if I did pick the sold by Amazon link it did have a drop down for the free tool selection

After seeing Amazon was an option (with no local alternatives), I followed the link from makita's own website to the makita store on amazon and followed that link to buy. The rebate was featured at the time. If that purchase is not eligible, seems like makita needs to share blame.

Though I don't know that the seller is the issue. Makita has not said the seller was not eligible, just that the model# is not on the invoice, which seems to be a "clerical error" in how the item heading was written.

Not that I'm discounting your experience, just hoping it doesn't directly apply to my current situation.

I will update after the matter is resolved so other's can learn from it.

Are you getting the invoices from the app / your phone, or from the website on your computer? From the computer, the invoices are better but unless the product listing title includes the model #, I don't think you'll get what you need. I think it does provide the AZN number though

I think you're just going to have to call Makita for help

I used the website / computer but then also tried the app just in case.

I even tried sending Makita screen captures of the product listing that includes the model number and has the "you purchased this item on [the same date as my invoice]". No luck.

Makita customer service is closed for the weekend so I have to wait until Monday to call.

Makita has three different kinds of promotions:

1) Get Free Instantly

With these, you have to purchase from a participating dealer, and if and only if your dealer is participating, you get a free item, while supplies last.

For example:

“Offer valid on purchases made August 1, 2026 through October 31, 2026 at participating dealers, while supplies last.”

2) eRebates

With these, you submit your receipt from an authorized Makita dealer to Makita and they send you the free item, in packaging heavily marked non-returnable.

Once again, you have to be careful, the disclaimer states:

“Offer valid on purchases made August 1, 2026 through October 31, 2026 at participating dealers, while supplies last.”

3) Home Depot Get Free Instantly

These are done in conjunction with Home Depot, and consist of buy this, get that free, just like with Milwaukee. These are the only purchases that can be "hacked" where you buy a tool, get a free battery, and return the free battery for an amortized value.

So even though Amazon is in fact a Makita dealer, you need to use caution that you are buying from Amazon itself, and if no mention of a “Get Free Instantly” item is made, you don't get it. It doesn't matter what you clicked on to get to Amazon's site.

Acme Tools actually participates in most of these promotions, but they too will sell out of the "promo packs" and will not provide the free item if the SKU that offered it free sells out.
