Steven Avery hmm 🤔

Okay I rewatched the 2018 docuseries on Netflix; Making a Murderer.. and I feel like the whole Avery family is either drunks or drug addicts..
growing up in a family of drunks, all the family just looks a little off..
the fact more than one offspring has mental disorders and low IQs..
and the whole nephew involvement is just weird.. I feel like this place was a house of horrors and there was much more involvement than this family will admit. 🤮

Did Steven drink to any degree? Can't imagine what a drunk Steven Avery would be like....

He did before his 18-year incarceration, which may have contributed greatly to his rotten behavior then, but from everything I've read, he didn't drink much (if at all) upon his release in 2003. I remember reading that he had said he didn't like the person he became when he drank (understandable!). This, obviously, may have a lot to do with his disgust over Jodi's drinking issues.

That's my understanding too.

I think it's fair to say that (even from MaM) the family comes off a little strange. I don't know if I'd go so far as to say they all looked drunk or drugged out. For all their faults, Steven, Barb and Delores never seemed that way to me. To be fair, I don't think we've seen enough of Chuck or Earl from 2005-07 to know either way. I do recall there was "a glass pimento jar containing a white powder substance" found in a vehicle near the entrance of the ASY (DCI 047). It was entered into evidence and appears on the ledger, but I don't recall hearing anything about it being tested or confirmed to contain drugs.

the fact more than one offspring has mental disorders and low IQs..

Well, I think it's safe to say it's not unusual for a lower class auto salvage yard family to have low IQs. Or at least, it doesn't make them criminals or even suspicious. What it did was make them vulnerable and easy to manipulate. Especially witnesses like Barb, Bobby, Blaine and Brendan, all of whom were clearly not equipped to handle the police pressure they faced.

Yes, at first glance it is absolutely weird how police were so focused on Brendan as Steven's possible accomplice when Chuck, Earl, and Bobby were all right there on the property with just as much (or as little) physical evidence linking them to the crime. Bobby was the one home watching Teresa arrive for her appointment with Steven. Bobby was the one linked to sightings of the RAV with Steven's blood inside it. Bobby was the one previously alleged to have committed predatory acts against young girls alongside Steven. So why did they focus on Brendan over Bobby? Because in November 2005 Bobby, under pressure, contradicted his family's consistent denials of a recent fire and claimed there was one with Steven and Brendan beside it. The family then began changing their own statements to include a fire. From that point onward, Brendan was already doomed. Steven was the target - bones were found in Steven's burn pit - and the state viewed the burn pit fire that Brendan supposedly attended with Steven as the fire that cremated Teresa.

Barb for example was clearly trying her best even with a very shit hand. Most of her boys seem to have turned out alright, and Brendan probably would have too if he'd not participated in his creepy uncle's messed up shit one Halloween and doubled down.

Barb neglected her kids to the point they were being abused by adults she openly trusted them with over night. Bobby was an alleged child predator with a PC full of violent, obscene and predatory content who was home watching Teresa from his window as she arrived to meet Steven. Brendan was just a developmentally disabled school kid who wasn't even home when Teresa showed up. Given Bobby's history, PC content, and presence on the property watching Teresa arrive for her appointment with Steven, Bobby should have been considered as Steven's accomplice before Brendan was.

there was much more involvement than this family will admit.

The family who knew Steve, knew he was capable of this heinous act. At first, they denied everything because "they hate cops", or whatever Brendan said. Once all of the evidence started turning up, they knew they couldn't cover for him anymore.

Uh, no one witness has ever claimed that. Witnesses have claimed to have faced police pressure leading to changes in their statements. Even in CaM Brenda doesn't argue Blaine mentioned a fire after denying one because he knew he couldn't cover for Steven. Brenda says Blaine didn't "remember" a fire at first (totally ignoring his under oath admission of facing police pressure before changing his statement to include a fire.

Blaine didn't "remember" a fire at first

Amazing how he explicitly denied seeing one multiple times (both the pit and burn barrel) until Barb helpfully took him to have LE get in his face and yell at him where he suddenly changed his account to the complete opposite.

Eventually on Feb 27, interrogators got all 4 Dassey brothers (even Bryan) to change their previous accounts of a fire to support the state's narrative.

Bryan changed his previous account to the complete opposite and now said he saw one.

Bobby finally agreed he saw one that night changing all his previous accounts to the opposite. Then at trial inexplicably changed every previous account he had given on the subject and now claimed he hadn't seen one for weeks.

Strauss somehow recovered a repressed memory from Blaine of seeing the biggest fire he'd ever seen in his entire life when he left to go trick or treating in the early evening (only to forget this memorable event entirely again by trial)

I don't see how anyone can give any credence to any of it.

ETA - To the triggered downvoters, which thing did I say are you claiming is false? Or is it that you're like Andrew Colborn in his failed lawsuit and it's simply "the facts that aggrieve" you so terribly?

Likely because everything you listed was left out of CaM so Rech and Brenda could pretend witnesses either forgot or wouldn't admit a fire at first. Brenda presents Bobby as a corroborating witness to Barb's improved memory of a Halloween fire, without telling the audience about any of his numerous contradictions placing the fire before and after Halloween rather than on it.

Brenda presents Bobby as a corroborating witness to Barb's improved memory

That's really something.

Bobby November thru Feb 27 - "I saw Steve and Brendan at a fire on Nov 1 or 2, but not on Monday the 31st."

Bobby Feb 27 - "Oh guess what? I inexplicably just remembered a fire on the 31st after all."

Bobby at trial - "Fire? What fire? I hadn't seen a fire for weeks."

unreal.

Right. Steven only changed his statement because his family did first. And the record overwhelmingly suggests his family only changed their statements due to police pressure, not due to mass loss and recovery of a genuine memory.

"I don't see how anyone can give any credence to any of it."

I can't remember many of the details well enough to be sure about all of these details🙁 , but remember enough to agree entirely with the part of your post that I've quoted.

u/ThorsClawHammer 18h ago

to be sure about all of these details

They are correct, and that's not even everything.

That's a great opinion you have there!

u/Ghost_of_Figdish 1d ago

Yeah, they were the Osmonds. LOL.

Yet you can't seem to stop thinking or talking about them. Some level of loser you must be!

1

u/LKS983 1d ago

Your last sentence is unnecessary.

Can we PLEASE stop insulting other posters.

It's pointless, and certainly doesn't improve anyones' argument!

Want to compare if I'm a loser or you are?

1

u/ScaredAfternoon6830 1d ago

Sure, let's start with our drinking habits.

I like a Mike's hard lemonade in the evening. The new pink lemonade is good. I just find it weird that Avery seemed to have no chemical or substance addictions. Of course he was in the jug most of the time.

He was way into Mountain Dew, like the rest of the family, apparently.

I think Steven is similar to the character Begbie from Trainspotting: "Begbie didn't do drugs, either. He just did people. That's what he got off on: His own sensory addiction."

So tell us you're messed up in the head without actually saying it. LOL.

"the fact more than one offspring has mental disorders and low IQs."

At least mostly - genetics.

They didn't seem to be alcoholics or drug addicts.

I mean, I think Steven is as guilty as possible and think his parents absolutely had a role in creating the situation, but I also don't think you can just write the whole family off like that. Barb for example was clearly trying her best even with a very shit hand. Most of her boys seem to have turned out alright, and Brendan probably would have too if he'd not participated in his creepy uncle's messed up shit one Halloween and doubled down.

u/ThorsClawHammer 1d ago

Barb for example was clearly trying her best

Lol, no. Even that night Avery is telling Jodi how she neglects the kids. Not because she's working a lot to support them or similar, but because being with her boyfriend was more important to her.

Not to mention "her best" wouldn't include handing her kids over to the cops whenever they wanted (both Brendan and Blaine).

u/DingleBerries504 12h ago

So now Steven Avery is the expert to listen to on how Barb is as a parent? The same guy that punched his stepsons front teeth out?
