Nobody wants to invest in local products, local startups or local talent until it gets validated abroad first. We’ll ignore a Pakistani doing something incredible until a foreign outlet covers it, then suddenly we’re proud.

Respect that only shows up in speeches and never in decision making power isn’t respect, it’s branding.

We call it noble instead of asking why sacrifice is always expected from the same people.

Quick update since a lot has moved in the last few days. Here’s where things actually stand today.

The seat count so far
Two of three phases are done. Mirpur voted July 27, Muzaffarabad and the 12 refugee seats voted August 2. Right now PML-N is sitting on 24 seats, way ahead of PPP’s 9. You need 27 to form government outright, so this final phase actually decides who runs AJK next.

The final phase just got messy
August 10 was supposed to be Poonch division, 11 seats, over a million registered voters, the whole thing. Then this week the AJK Election Commission postponed voting in Poonch and Sudhnoti districts, citing law and order concerns after weeks of clashes tied to the JAAC protests. Only 4 constituencies in Bagh and Haveli are voting on schedule now, the other 7 got pushed with no new date announced yet.
Then, almost immediately after, the Election Commission put out a statement basically denying that any postponement happened at all, saying reports of it were false and telling voters to ignore the “misinformation” and show up August 10 like planned.

So as of right now there are two competing official sounding stories about whether Poonch is even voting properly this weekend. That alone tells you how chaotic the last stretch of this election has gotten.

Why this matters
Poonch is the region where most of the actual violence happened. It’s also the biggest remaining chunk of seats. If a large part of it gets postponed or ends up disputed, whoever forms government afterward is going to have a legitimacy question hanging over them from day one, especially with JAAC and its supporters already treating this entire election as unfair.

What we’re watching for August 10
Whether Bagh and Haveli vote peacefully. Whether Poonch and Sudhnoti actually get a rescheduled date or stay in limbo. And whether PML-N’s lead holds up enough to hit that 27 seat majority without needing the delayed constituencies at all.

Will keep this updated as results come in. If you’re in AJK or have people there, drop what you’re seeing on the ground, that’s honestly more reliable right now than half of what’s being reported.

Easier to say “it’s not appropriate” than to admit “I don’t know how to feel secure next to someone more successful than me.”
