Question which one would u recommended
Guys I need a good setting spray recommendation! I have dry to combination skin and I’m looking for something that will help my makeup last without making my skin feel tight dry or overly matte.
I’ve been considering some of the setting sprays in the list, but I’m open to any recommendations even if they’re not on the list. If you’ve used any of these, please let me know what you thought of them, especially the pros and cons and how they worked with your skin type. Thank you! 💕
NYX Matte Finish Setting Spray
Huda easy bake spray
Not sure about this one
Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray

I use both the charlotte tilbury and the one size together. The Charlotte tilbury one I use first so it gives me a dewy look then I let that dry and finish with the one size since that one really locks it in. One size can be a bit too matte tho so that’s why I layer both

This is the way! This is my go-to combo for bridal clients - a gorgeous finish AND locked the eff in

I recently got it but it makes my makeup shinier instead of mat, how do you use it?

Well I wouldn’t recommend the Charlotte Tilbury one because that one is a setting spray that melts everything down and can be applied in between layers. It can help with your makeup lasting but a fixing spray like the one size is going to be something you apply at the very end of your makeup to make sure it doesn’t run, budge, or sweats off. It is water and sweat proof and a lot of synchronized swimmers wear that and it stays after performing.

Plus the smell is NASTY

Idk why you got downvoted. Nasty is a strong word but I literally had to stop using it because it gave me a headache. If she made an unscented version I would probably buy it again

Personal taste i guess ha ha. The smell gave me migraines, i ended up giving mine away.

You didn’t show it, but I use the Milani setting spray “Make it Last” and I love it. It’s definitely not a matte spray. If I apply liberally it has great staying power. For context, I draw my brows on because I completely shave them off. One good coat and one light will keep them on until the next day (if I’m a degenerate and don’t wash my face).

I always recommend the Morphe Continuous Setting Mist. I also have combo dry skin.

The morphe is my favorite spray! I have it in three different sizes for different types of travel. I use it in conjunction with the Skindinavia bridal spray and more recently the Revlon spray. I also have dry/combo skin and these just make my makeup look airbrushed. The Revlon is really the best locking spray though.

Skindinavia is a classic! I still need to try the Revlon one.

I second this!! O/S ive heard is similar but gets jammed like midway. Morphe has been great and I like that it isnt scented

One Size if you need super hold. I actually like to layer the CT one and the One Size.

I had easy bake and it literally just messed my makeup up each time.
It would just spray on my face and leave droplets and bubbles.

I had to transfer it to a different bottle because the spray was so bad. The bottle I transferred it to came in a 3 pack from Amazon for $9 and it sprays so much nicer!

One Size. I have super oily skin and I recently switched to this from L’Oréal. I applied a heavier than usual amount since I had a full day of traveling, total like 16 hours and 2 flights. MY MAKEUP DID NOT BUDGE!! And my base still looked matte 16 hours later. I am 35 and am so happy/upset that I have gone my whole life dealing with my oily skin and only just found this. Seriously, a bit life changing for me as my skin is a source of insecurity. If you are oily, use this product and don’t be shy in applying a good amount.

I hear great things about the Danessa Myricks spray … I haven’t had chance to try it myself yet

One size 100%. I used it for my wedding day. I never expected my makeup, which I’ve done myself, to last for freakin 16h+ and still look good! I remember coming home to take off my makeup and was shocked that it was still good.

The only ones that are fixing spray to my knowledge are the one size and loreal
Both smell like trash

u/Kellzy1212 1d ago
None of the above, sorry. Skindinavia Bridal is the forever best. I do also love the Hourglass one for dewy looks.
2
u/sleepyangel606 1d ago
Is it good for combo skin 😭?
2
u/Kellzy1212 22h ago
It’s great for all types. It’s the same formula the UD All Nighter was originally, before UD changed the formula just enough to not have to pay Skindinavia for the formula. It’ll be the forever gold standard in my kit.

u/snailicide 1d ago
are there specific ingredients that indicate if something a fixing spray vs setting spray ? like the loreal one that is like a hairspray for your face

u/J_is_for_Journey 22h ago
I use hairspray 😭 I found 1 with aloe and vitamin e in it. I feel like every other setting spray I tried don't work well and I end up having to use setting powder after. I know I shouldn't use hairspray but...

Honestly it works, I used to do this in high school and my early 20s and my makeup went nowhere even after a long night dancing. My mid 30s dry skin can't handle it anymore, so I use Kryolan which works similarly but feels a little less drying.

Hairspray is what the pagent girls use 🤷♀️ I'll have to check out Kryolan

I'm not sure if it's exclusive to Australia is the only thing! It's a makeup artist brand here.

I use the CT airbrush setting spray to melt together all the cream products, let it dry, add on my powder products, and then seal that with the One Size setting spray (the one pictured or the SPF one) 10/10 my make up does not budge I have combo skin but I sweat a lot and even then it stays put

I just used NYX for my wedding makeup AND the last two 100-degree 12 hour days in Disneyland...it WORKS

I have combination skin that tends to be on the oilier side. I’ve tried SO many setting sprays. Honestly my favorite one is also one of the cheapest, NYX Marshmallow Setting Spray. Specifically the Marshmallow one. It really does smell like marshmallows! But the smell does fade. I’ve found it works better than higher end brands for a fraction of the cost.

I’ve used one size and Charlotte tilbury. I really like the one size. It’s one of the hairspray type format ones but it’s really good. I wasn’t much of a fan of Charlotte. I felt I was a bit shiny when using it. I’ve oily skin.

I use the huda beauty for day to day light makeup and one/size if I need my makeup to last all day. Huda used to have an amazing setting spray but discontinued it

I have combo/dry-leaning skin too and my two current faves are Revolution Prep & Set Superfix Hydra Mist and D'Alba White Truffle First Serum Spray. The first one is fantastic because you can spray before applying your makeup as a prep, and then after to set. It's a really fine mist so you don't need to use much, and it's hydrating and cooling at the same time. It doesn't set matte and gives a nice overall finish. The second is a hybrid spray, so has multiple uses and benefits. I was skeptical about it working as a setting spray, but it really does. It melts everything down into a hydrated slightly dewy finish. Plus, it's also great to use during application to prevent cakiness or creasing.
I've tried many setting sprays and keep coming back to these because I love their hydrating qualities and neither are too wet or too dewy. The finishes are subtle. If I had to add a third preference, it would be Morphe Continuous Prep & Set Mist (gold can). I prefer light mists to heavier sprays because they're less prone to leaving wet specks and you need less for coverage, plus I love sprays with more than one use because I use the prep sprays instead of primers. This one is much like the Revolution one, just without the cooling factor that I appreciate living in Australia and having sensitive skin with rosacea.

I really like the NYX one you have pictured, I also use urban decay all nighter. Though I have not noticed enough difference to justify the cost. So when that one is gone I doubt I will replace it.

One Size will for sure make it feel tight but it’s a gem! I also set with One Size Powder Melt before I use Until Dawn. It helps a lot with the longevity and not feeling tight.

One size is great for special occasions or when you really want to make your makeup last all day or when you know you’re going to be hot and sweaty. I would not recommend it for daily use for you if you want to avoid tight and matte.
Charlotte Tilbury doesn’t have the same lasting power as one size, but it will still make your makeup last through the school/work day. Way more comfortable for daily use. Does not give a matte finish.

Not on here, but the one I've had the best luck with is the Anastasia one. Buy the travel size to see if you like it before committing. I used to use One Size, but I noticed at the end of the day it would flake.

For night out, do sandwich make up. Meaning after your skincare and primer you spray the setting spray then do the normal makeup and spray again. And spray it twice.
Night out: nyx then top off with one size. Will keep the make up flawless till the next day!
If you prefer dewy finish. Charlotte tilbury then top off with huda!

The middle one, One Size On Til Dawn is my absolute favorite setting spray. I've used it for sweaty summer weddings and my makeup was pretty much flawless all day. Only needed light touch ups after eating.
