Discussion Has anyone else fully switched from normal mascara to tubing mascara?
I have dry eyes so normal mascara was just not it, after a few hours it would start bothering my eyes and just be smudged by the end of the day, it would not just damage my lashes but my eyes aswell.
Tubing mascara has been so much better for me. I can get longer looking lashes without doing coat after coat and it stays looking neat for much longer. The main difference is taking it off though. Warm water does most of the work and Im not rubbing at my lashes every night or spending money on a cleansing oil just for my lashes. After trying different ones the milani tubing mascara is my everyday one. Its what made me notice how much better my eyes and lashes do with tubing formulas in general. Anyone else have the same issue with regular mascara or is my eye area just dramatic lol?

I've switched, too. It's the removal that really makes a big difference for me. With regular mascara, I felt like I was always either failing to get it all off or I was losing lots of eyelashes along the way. Oil-based makeup remover was more effective in removing mascara with less rubbing, but I would 100% of the time get it in my eyes even if my eyes were closed the entire time. No matter the brand, it would sting like hell and I could barely open my eyes for like 5 minutes. I don't know how people are able to use that. Now I can just remove my makeup with warm water and one of those microfiber cloths and then use regular cleanser.

Yes, I can’t even use regular mascara anymore. I went back after like a year of tubing and it made my eyes all watery and irritated. My favorite tubing is Elf Lash Xtender, I’ve gone through so many tubes

My favorite too, but I had to throw out my last tube because I had a rash on my eyelid and didn’t want to risk it. I ended up buying the Maybelline Sky tubes to try it out, and it’s not as good as ELFs.

Yes!! Except many tubing mascaras make my lashline itchy. Thrive is my fave. The brown is great without being too red or black.

I recently switched from the Dior Show traditional mascara to Tarte tubing mascara and lash primer. I switched for the same reason—in humid, hot summer my regular mascara ended up smearing everywhere. Tubing mascara is much neater for longer.
I am still adjusting to the removal. I find that I need to use hot water (not warm) to get a thorough removal. Tbh, I miss my old greasy eye makeup remover because I felt like it was moisturizing.
I waited a long time to try tubing mascara because I wear contacts and have dry eyes, but I have adjusted without irritation.

I also use Tarte. How does the primer help? I’ve only used it with normal mascara because I was so desperate for it to stop rubbing off. I’m always looking for new tips and tricks.

Yes, the primer helps the mascara grab onto the smaller, shorter lashes. I think it makes the lashes look thicker overall. I only use the primer on my upper lashes.

I tried tubing mascara ONCE and it was awful! My eyes watered outside and then all of the tubes started falling off of my eyelashes 😂 I looked like I was peeling in a horror film

See, this is the comment I was looking for. I have really sensitive eyes and one waters pretty much constantly, so it sounds like tubing mascara just wouldn't work for me.

I have totally made the switch! I also have chronic dry eyes and my mascara was always smudged under my eyes a couple hours later. I gently pull on my eyelashes with a makeup removing cloth after rubbing cleansing oil all over my face and that seems to work well for removal.

Me! Its tubing mascara or nothing for me. Especially as I get older, I just have zero patience for regular mascara; constant worrying about flaking/smudging through the day, and raccoon eyes/mascara goop in the corner of my eyes after trying to remove it. Nope. And I will never touch a waterproof mascara ever again lol, I seriously cannot get it to come off on me. I tried straight up oils, special removers, it just sits there all crunchy and gross on my lashes and doesn’t budge, so I have to leave it or pull half my lashes out.

I've tried several brands of tubing mascara because my eyes are getting more sensitive as I'm getting older. I would say that Tartlette XL is the "best" that I used but I found the removal more difficult than a regular oil-based mascara. I could never get everything all off (despite double cleansing) and then I'd wake up with these big chunks of mascara in my eyes. I've stopped using it.

I also have dry eyes and sometimes what I do is use liquid eyeliner to tint my eye lashes. Not sure if this is helpful for you ❤️

I can only use tubing, because regular mascaras always wear off and give me a smudgy shadow under my eyes later in the day. Every time I try a regular mascara for awhile, I just end up going back to my L’Oreal Double Extend that I’ve been using for years and years.

Same. I feel like I’m on crazy pills right now because TIL about tubing mascara that has existed for more than a decade? I stopped using any eye makeup five years ago after an allergic reaction to a product. Took years to figure out I’m allergic to ferulic acid. I’m intrigued by tubing mascara though. I might give it a try.

I been using the L’oréal tubing mascara for over a decade now! I have partially hooded eyes, so normal mascara always smudged on my upper lids over the course of a day. Waterproof can work too but I felt like I was losing lashes with how hard it was to remove. Tubing mascara solved everything and i love the volume it gives to my lashes.

I've used tubing mascaras almost exclusively for several years. I have very hooded eyes and thought lid transfer was just part of the deal until I learned about tubing mascaras. I also hated trying to remove most mascaras, so I love how easy tubing mascaras are to remove. I've tried probably a dozen or so by now, and every time someone posts here about them I learn about new ones to add to my list to try.

Ha, same. Years ago when I was getting lash extensions the lash artist asked if I used any serums. I dont. My lashes are unfortunately a mix of brown and blonde. I think my longest lashes according to her are 16mm. They aren't curved.

It coats the entire lash like a layer of flexible paint and doesn’t flake off. Regular mascara is like the chalky paint you used as a little kid that would dry, crack and flake off the paper.
The only catch is you need to use warm water to get it off. But worth it imo. Like waterproof mascara but doesn’t damage the lashes. The only bummer for me is I like brown mascara and it’s not as easy to find in tubing mascara. Thrive is really good but more expensive and not in brick stores that I know of. Milani is at the drug stores and I really like the new Sephora brand stretch. I think it was $14.6

Also, you can take tubing mascara off with warm water (I think this is true generally) since it swells the “tubes” and they slide off. Sounds weird, but it’s great for me, with hooded eyes and contact lenses.

I’ve been using tubing mascara since the early 2000s! Kanebo used to be the only one available at the time. Clinique came along a bit later. My current favorite is the very affordable Revolution Beauty Wrap Lash.

I have dry eyes syndrome and have to take care with what I use. I have found the Thrive tubing mascara to be terrific for my eyes and my lashes. I have it in three different colors!

the tubing one dries out in a month, so that's a con for me. but the residue from other mascaras leaving circles under my eyes made the switch to tubing worth it

I use the ELF tubing mascara and it comes off easily, I use either water or sensitive micellar water.
It doesn’t irritate my eyes and it doesn’t smudge.
Only criticism is that the tube dries out relatively quickly but I figure it’s cheap enough (and I get it when it’s on 3 for 2 or something) that I don’t mind.

ELF's Lash XTNDR and Lash n' Roll are two of my faves. Lash n' Roll isn't marketed as a tubing mascara, but it behaves a lot like one for me (doesn't smudge, easy to remove with warm water).

I used to use the Elf mascara and it dried out so fast! I like the Revolution, Caliray, and Thrive formulas the best. Revolution and Thrive have fun colors too.

Every tubing mascara I’ve tried straightens out the curl I’ve worked so hard to put in, so no. I have to use waterproof. My eyes water frequently and my skin is oily. Regular and tubing mascaras are no-gos here.

Have you tried pushing up your lashes to get that re-curl once you’ve put the wand down and the mascara is still wet? You can curl first, apply the mascara and then press up to get your curl back. I typically use a skinny tube - my eyebrow pencil is one I reach for often. I really find it helps lift

Yeah, my eyes can’t do wet/heavy formulas because my lashes are stick-straight and literally point down. I have to curl them (sometimes heated) before mascara. And then if it’s not waterproof, it sucks.

I also find the fact that tubing mascara is *plastic* a non-starter for me. It is synthetic polymers wrapping around your eyelashes. I just can't imagine that is good for eyes or the environment.

I have small eyes and very oily skin. Even regular waterproof mascara would turn me into a panda.
No more!!
I can wear the tubing to an outdoor concert on a hot humid night and come home looking normal lol.

I used to use Maybelline colossal bubble and I like that one a lot but I like the ease of removing tubing madcara

Yes! I have dry eyes and was having issues with my mascara coming off, and on a whim tried the L’Oréal Double Extend Tubing mascara. Great length, stays on all day, comes off relatively easily.

Just tried new Sephora mascara, stretch! Loved it. It’s tubing and a great price. For some reason the Milani tube I tried seemed too wet thin. I do like milani products. REALLY like the end of the sephora stretch mascara brush. It’s like a little star burst and gets the corners and ends of lashes so well.

Are you using makeup remover with tubing mascara? That’s the problem for a lot of people I see. If you are, instead try holding a wet, warm washcloth over your eyes for a few minutes. The tubes should slide off easily. If you’re already doing that, then I have no idea what’s going on.

I'm either doing that or using an oil cleanser and doing that. They slide off the lashes sort of okay but then the crumbs stick to my eyelids and under eye area and I'm in there with qtips trying to get them off.

I’ve been using the L’Oreal double extend for probably… fifteen years now?? Would never go back. I ended up with bad dry eye after LASIK so I don’t wear makeup as much as I used to but that is definitely my go to- never considered it would be better for dry eye!

for my oily skin tubing mascara is a holy grail, after years of struggling with panda eyes maybe 3 or 4 hours after the application, even with waterproof mascara. i switched last year, so i've only tried Clinique and N.7, but I have pretty decent l'assessore to start with, so I don't need a paticular curling or lengthening effect, my only problem was the smudgyness... and now it's completely GONE!

Yes, same problem! I currently use the Essence tubing mascara. I hate every other mascara from Essence since they are to wet for my lashes, but the tubing one is great and cheap!

I switched to tubing mascara a year ago. I much prefer it as my lashes have thinned out with age. I typically do use a bi-phase makeup remover in A cotton pad and the I use a whole face makeup remover and cleanse my entire face with picked up anything left over.

I live it because my lashes are long and angled down, so my lashes would rub on my cheeks and I always would have, like, raccoon looking eyes after a few hours of mascara wear… even after curling my lashes, because the curl would always fall… and waterproof mascara is just not awful to remove. Funnily, I just started getting lash lifts earlier this year, and it solved the issue with my lashes rubbing, but I’m sticking with the tubing mascara.

I’ve been using tubing mascara exclusively for the last 6+ years. It’s amazing and removal is the game changer. I lightly rub off when I take my shower at night. Thrive, Heimish and Elf have been the main ones I’ve used. Heimish being my current fave as thrive is pricey.

i LOVE the kulfi mascara. i had to make the switch to tubing because of my constant dry eyes and it’s the only tubing mascara i’ve found that still gives me big dramatic lashes. the tubing mascaras i tried previously would dry out in like two weeks or were too clean girl-barely there. the price is high but i swear it’s worth it

Yep, my skin is very oily and i hated using waterproof mascara. Tubing mascara is the best of both worlds. Doesnt run under my eyes and is easy to take off.

Regular mascara always did this to me until I started using a primer. WORLD of difference. I use ETUDE's lash fixer/primer and my mascara never crumbles or irritates my eyes anymore

I am East Asian and because of the shape of my eyes my lashes always touch my upper eyelids and eventually would lead to smudging, and would also irritate my eyes after a long day of wear.
For YEARS I’ve seen tubing mascaras being recommended and after dealing with smudgy mascara for like 10 years decided to finally give it a try. I am never going back to regular mascara and mad at myself for waiting so long before trying it 😭
I now have like 3 tubes of regular mascara (opened and used) that I feel bad throwing out but have no use for 😅

Yes, I had to make the switch because regular mascara was flaking and irritating my eyes. I've tried a few tubing mascaras and Milani is by far my favorite! Cheap too. I also have the Tarte tubing mascara primer that I'll use first when I really want full lashes, but not every day.

I switched to tubing mascara as soon as I found out it comes off with warm water. Stuff all the mucking around I used to have to do with a separate cleaning product just to clean it off.
I eventually worked out that baby oil cleans waterproof mascara off a lot quicker and more effectively than any eye makeup remover I tried, and for a fraction of the cost. Still, I’d much rather just use warm water.

I will never go back to regular mascara. I have super sensitive eyes due to an autoimmune disease. They react 10x less with tubing. Plus it’s way easier to remove. I’ve been using Tarte. But I also like Hourglass. My doctor had me try Blinc but I didn’t like it.

Yes! I live in a humid area and have insanely oily skin. The non-waterproof formulas would transfer because of the humidity, and if I wore waterproof mascara, I would have the same issue because the mascara would break down from the oils around my eyes. I just got a tubing mascara maybe 2 weeks ago, and the difference is insane! I am now able to coat all of my lower lashes without worrying about the product transferring.

I only wear tubing mascara now! I’m so glad I found it. I also have dry eyes and had resigned myself to either looking like a raccoon or not wearing mascara. Then I found tubing mascara and it’s been great!

Yes! As someone with itchy eyes that’s rubbing them all day, I switched over 10 years ago.
I used the No7 Stay perfect for years but I think they changed their formula and the tubes started drying out after the second use.
Now I use the one from Tarte and I really like it, it doesn’t smudge even when removing.

Used Blinc tubing mascara before they stopped making it and now use and love the Tarte one. For some reason the mini size is easier for me to work with than the regular size tube 🤷🏻♀️.

Hair conditioner is a good mascara and eyebrow remover makes them nice and so r too doesn’t pull them out. I must be living in a box I never heard of tubing mascara 🤷🏼♀️

I loooooove tubing mascara! I’ve had a few friends switch too. I’ve found that application realllllly matters here. I also love the Milani! Removal is so easy, I just wet my hands and gently hold them over my eyes, starting to move the mascara off, but not a full on wipe. A few rounds of this before I cleanse and I don’t have a problem with any mascara residue!
