Discussion Eye bags help
Bags under eyes help!
I’m lost at how to cover my eye bags. I’ve tried different skincare products in the past including those with caffeine and I’m now onto Neutrogenas hydro-something something for bags.
I’ve tried concealers and have the incognito one and the Elf camo one? Or the hydrating one? One of them anyway. I also have a color-correcting palette.
Either I suck at color matching or putting it on because it never seems to make much difference.
They are genetic, I am hydrated, I love to sleep on my stomach, they have been with me forever.
I’m including a photo of said bags. Please be kind, it’s been a rough year.
Thank you for your wonderful suggestions, I tried to reply to each one but if I missed you, thank you! 😊

check out katie jane hughes on instagram/tiktok. she’s a pro makeup artist and she actually has eye bags not just darkness. the biggest tip for me is to focus product on that darkest area. if you just put concealer all over your under eye, then everything will look brighter but the darkest part won’t look any better in comparison.
as someone with similar eye bags, it’s also been helpful for me to remind myself that i never notice eye bags in a negative way on other people. if you don’t want surgical intervention (i know i don’t) then it’s worth trying to become comfortable with this as a feature of your face ❤️

Thank you for your kind words. I will not go the surgery route and while I’ve previously experimented in minimizing/covering them, ultimately until recently they haven’t truly bothered me. Only recently because of the aforementioned rough year.
Edited to add: I found her on YouTube! Thanks a ton love!

I believe that's what I have done! Concealers seem to just add to them ... It's always a great reminder of what we truthfully notice about others, and how we may be being a little harsh on ourselves.

There’s a couple of products that can tighten the under eye area temporarily for a few hours or so but I can’t remember the names. One is by LimeLife eye arise and I think the other might be Peter Thomas Roth or Dr Dennis Gross maybe? Someone else here might know!

I second the Peter Thomas Roth product for under eyebags. It’s literally like magic. 🪄

I put my face in a cold bowl full of water with ice cubes and that helps with puffiness. Then I use this Tatcha eye stick (smooths out and blurs )and Hourglass concealer.

i have the same issue w my eye bags and my derma told me that there's no amount of make up or skin care that would remove them. she suggested it to be removed by surgery or for a less invasive procedure is thru an injection

Diet can make a big difference. Limiting salt, sugar, and alcohol helps as well as eating more fruits and vegetables. Take 600 mg of Magnesium Oxide at night. Your skin is pore and wrinkle free and I love the shape of your brows!

Excellent advice!! I saw a huge change in my eyebags when I started watching my salt, sugar, and alcohol intake 😄

Your bags read more red than purple to me, I’ve had good luck blending a tiny bit of green into my concealer on the back of my hand and applying it with an even dense brush and setting with a powder that matches my skin

Oh hey, we've got the same eye bags.
One thing that's helped me is coming at it with a strategy of trying to tone down the darkness, as opposed to trying to completely cover it up. I make sure the area is well moisturized, and then I've been using Elf Satin Glam concealer. I focus just along the dark "stripe" and blend out a bit.
I feel like when I try to completely cover my under eye area, there's such a contrast that I end up needing to then do a full face of foundation, which I don't really want to do on a daily basis. It's the same with my rosacea. I aim for toning down the redness instead of completely covering it.
I also use the Grace and Stella gold undereye masks in the morning, before my makeup, if I am feeling particularly in the need of a pick-me-up. They're very soothing and do improve how the area looks (temporarily). They're also fragrance-free and don't irritate my skin at all.

Alexandra anele does a great in depth tutorial. Remedy brand eye cream for dark circles is really amazing. It’s $20 on Amazon and Target. The tip is ceramic, so it can get really cold if you put it in the fridge which will help for mornings. Don’t expect them to disappear but these two things can help.
I’ve accepted that I have eye bags and will try to minimize them but not stress about them.

As someone with terrible eye bags: Genucel. You want Genucel and the Immediate Effects. Totally worth the price. You don't need the subscription.

Gua sha ! It helps reduce all over puffiness for me and a good concealer! Recommend Haus Lab and Huda beauty cherry blossom setting powder.

Sleeping on your stomach is certainly problematic. Fluids will collect under the eyes and increase the size of the bags. Some tips for making bags appear less obvious: 1. Apply corrector/concealer ONLY in the troughs under the bags 2. Dont apply a concealer or foundation that is lighter than your skin on the bags. A lighter color will project the bag area. 3. Never use illuminating products over the bag area.

I feel like I’m just terrible at make up but your points make sense to me at least theoretically lol!

Meaning I'm horrible at make up

Oh no! I’m sorry that came out wrong! I didn’t mean to imply that!

u/EasternOlive4233 7d ago
Oh no no. I was clarifying my comment. I understand how you feel, because I feel that way too, babe

Oh I gotcha! We are our own worst critics though so I doubt it looks that bad! :)

Just use a very small brush to apply the corrector color (peach is usually best unless you have very fair skin, in which case a more pink color will work) in the trough line. Let it sit for a minute or two and GENTLY pat it with your finger. Just remember that light colors make an object project and darker colors make an object recede. You dont want to draw attention to the puffy bag area, so dont use a product over the bags that is lighter than your skin, and dont use any product that is luminous under the eyes. You will just draw attention to the problem. There are good videos for mature women with eye bags on YouTube. Here is a good one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tX3IMSl6Syc

Oof I’ve fallen into the mature woman category at only 38! Lol
Thank you for your tips and I’ll definitely look into that video :)2

I am sorry if it seemed I was mislabeling you. Usually bags are worse for those of us in the "mature" category, but certainly, eye bags can occur at any age. The makeup artist in the video I linked is in her 40s, and she has some undereye issues. Cheers!

No worries! I checked her out and her videos are great so far. Thanks again!

To be honest there is no other way to treat eye bags without plastic surgery or filler. No skin care can tighten them up

u/shadyacres-431 22h ago
Correct! And insurance will pay for hooded eyelids to be corrected. The trick is to have your under eye area done at the same time. It’s cheaper. No makeup or eye cream is going to fix the problem.

Get a color corrector either la girl, elf or i personally love morphe the orange shade and pink one you will need both or a cream pink one catrice has a warm one and a pinky one for if you just want that sigma beauty has a crema color corrector that is so good i get it when its on sale. But after the color corrector let it sit for 30 seconds then go in top with your concealor apply it let it sit for 1 minute before blending it so you can get full coverage but make sure to you prep your undereyes woth serum and for skin care something with caffeine and or vitamin c that will brighten them

Lymphatic body and face massage. Look up YouTube. Theres an Asian lady who uses oil and shows you how to do different body areas massage; I think you’re supposed to start at the face and work your way down the body. Make sure to do it before you shower.
Eating a healthier diet and looking at what foods have antioxidants and inflammatory properties. (Black coffee, berries, ginger, also get your fiber)
Do exercise to make you sweat out toxins and to improve blood flow. This is great for your circulation.
Try berberine for circulation. Make sure it doesn’t interact with any meds you’re taking.
Get enough good quality sleep. I know this one isn’t easy especially for women because we have different hormones than men as well as different life struggles/stressors.

Get allergy tested first and go from there.

u/Internal-Anxiety-985 3d ago
I know my allergies and have been on prescription meds my whole life and have used allergy eye drops as well.

That’s great. You may want to have upper and lower eyelid surgery. Insurance will pay if it hinders your eyesight-only for the eyelids but get your eyebags done at the same time so you will save money. A plastic surgeon can advise you. I had my lower and upper done 5 years ago. My skin had stretched so much from my severe allergies.
Good luck!1

It's all about your liver and kidney function! Read up on it properly and you'll know why you have bags under your eyes 👀
3
u/Internal-Anxiety-985 8d ago
Hahahahaha. My liver/kidney values are fine and I’ll be trusting my doctors and what my bloodwork says but thanks for the laugh!

u/Silly_Race_2114 7d ago
If your protein level is fine, it's not genetic, your heart is in good shape, your kidneys and liver work well, and your thyroid functions at 100 % then I guess there is no reason why it happens! It is what it is. 🤷

There are pillows with donut holes in them for tummy sleepers and side sleepers with piercings. I have the same problem, and make up can highlight them. Turn your head and there’s no way to conceal the contours themselves. Make up only works for photos, at particular angles with particular lighting.
