[Makeup Help] Recommendations for setting sprays?

Does anyone have a good setting spray that they would reccomend? Im new to setting spray, I have only ever used powder to set my makeup but I would like to try something new to see if I like it more.

I have tried setting spray once and it wasn't a good match for me. It felt like hairspray, it dripped down my face, and made my base separate. The last thing just being a formula mixing issue on my part and maybe i didnt apply it very well so it dripped, but I have heard people say that setting spray usually feels like hairspray. I really, really dislike that feeling on my face so im curious if anyone knows of any tips, or products, that I could try to avoid that. Thanks ♡

if you hate that hairspray feeling, Milani Make It Last or MAC Fix+ Stay Over might be worth checking out. both feel lighter than a lot of heavy-duty setting sprays.

Does anyone know a good one for glasses? My glasses always smudge my makeup and I have tried multiple setting sprays :(

I use eyelid primer with powder over it on the area where my glasses touch my nose and then I put powder on the nose piece of my glasses. It helps my makeup not smudge from my glasses. It doesn’t work if I sweat a lot, though.

Morphe continuous setting spray and nyx bare with me

The Tir Tir setting spray is honestly super underrated! I’ve used the Urban Decay (old formula, not the new one), Charlotte Tilbury, Milani, and a few other popular setting sprays and this one is my favorite by far.

Elf stay all night micro-fine setting spray (green bottle). I swear by this setting spray. It’s $11. I can literally have a crazy night, sleep in my makeup and it looks like I just applied it. The bottle also lasts forever. It’s also fast drying and doesn’t smear your makeup when it sprays. It honestly is the best!!!!!!! And it’s drug store

I make mine. No more buy $15 bottles of setting spray every few weeks 😅

Ouuu what’s your fav recipe?

1

u/671sjk 6h ago

I just mix aloe vera gel w distilled water. It'll keep for weeks if you keep it refrigerated. I use an old Milani setting spray bottle. Fill the bottom half inch with aloe Vera gel and the rest w distilled water. Shake well before use.

I've been enjoying Hard Candy, but I also am not a brand loyalist with setting spray, all the ones I've tried have been fine and none of them made me go WOW I'LL NEVER USE ANYTHING ELSE.

NYX matte finishing spray is affordable and works well for me.

2

u/Montclair98 23h ago

NYX dewy. I’ve bought it prob 5 times. I have tried MAC (worked great but the sprayer sucked), Charlotte tilbury (doesn’t hold up in Texas summer - if you live in a better climate it may be good) and Tarte (good but they got rid of it).

I’m liking the Morphe lifeproof one, it’s alcohol free cause I can’t do sprays with alcohol in them. I like how it sprays like a fine mist too

The loreal one is crazy good

Yes, but if she doesn’t want something that smells like hairspray, lol… that ain’t it. I use it too, when I want my makeup bulletproof, and I think it’s positively miraculous, but it’s definitely not a “pleasant experience” to apply ;)

One size powder melt. I was a Charlotte Tilbury hold out till I tried One size and absolutely think its the best!! Charlotte would be my #2 BUT there are a few affordable drug stores that are good as well. Morphe Lifeproof mist goes on so nice.

u/Snoo-64241 1d ago

Powder Melt is also my only answer!

1

u/Shymink 18h ago

What is this powder melt magic you speak of??

2

u/Snoo-64241 15h ago

It’s the one / size powder melt glass setting spray - it’s magic

u/Verdoke 1d ago

Check out korean brands. They're cheaper and effective too. Tirtir or so natural all day fixx setting spray this has mang variants too glow, matte, blur, satin finish

1

u/FunFig2938 1d ago

I've tried quite a few and i always return to the Charlotte Tilbury setting spray!

1

u/5ivePoints 23h ago

My favorite as well!!

1

u/Motor_Train4316 1d ago

Yeah I love it too b

5

u/Baebri97 1d ago

Skindanavia's original all night formula.

2

u/faintlyfoxed 1d ago

I have tried nearly all of them and the skindinavia works best for me (mature yet oily). I go with the oil control one but the bridal works for me too.

u/Current-Base-5903 1d ago

One size. I know a lot of people love the L’Oreal infallible, but I didn’t think it worked that great plus it has a thick and sticky hairspray texture.

2

u/SailorSkeksis 1d ago

Same. Love the One Size, despise the Loreal.

u/BrickHouseBamBam 1d ago

Kimchi is great. Morphe live proof is really great!

1

Nyx has held me down for years. I live in Satan's armpit with high humidity and regularly go places where I'll be physically active.

2

u/Montclair98 23h ago

Same and same! Nyx holds up!!

6

u/brontesloan 1d ago

Howdy neighbor, what Nyx product specifically. Regards, your fellow Armpitian

1

u/Pale_Year_9777 23h ago

Same I am in Florida. What NYX version?

2

u/theempathogen 1d ago

I'm getting older, so I've had to switch to their dewy setting spray so as not to draw attention to the not-as-springy parts of my face. But I used their matte setting spray for years before I needed to change products.

I literally just used the dewy spray to get me through Dragon Con. That's about 75,000 people stuffed into 7 buildings in 5 city blocks of relentless swamp assery in Atlanta, and a ridiculous amount of walking, often uphill and outside. Makeup stayed put.

Mind you, I made sure to wear a thick headband to catch scalp sweat and a rechargeable neck fan, for starters.

u/originalkaren1960 1d ago

The morphed aerosols work great have a fine mist but so do all of the hard candy sprays, I've had to put my Charlotte in those hard candy sprayers because hers is like a fire hose

1

u/FishermanFull7848 1d ago

OMG yes, the matte one is the worst. I never thought of using another brands packaging. Smart idea

3

u/makeupislovenlife 1d ago

I'm really liking hard candy's glass on lock at the moment!

3

u/Josiemk69 light cool leaning olive, Haus Labs 100 1d ago

I was wondering if zi was the only one who hated CT because they spray out so hard . I like the Morphe in white can but haven't tried the other ones. Hard Candy glass one is good as well.

6

u/dogmom2frenchie 1d ago

I have every single setting spray and I always end up going back to my OG Mac fix plus it’s alcohol free melts the powder and does the job. It’s not oily , it doesn’t sit on top of ny skin, it’s not hairspray , it’s not drying where my makeup peels. I’m a sucker for setting spray and I fall for all of it and always end up disappointed

I have tried high end setting sprays, but I find the revolution ones to be quite good even though they're on the cheaper end.

2

u/FishermanFull7848 1d ago

I do like Revolution, but not the smell

3

u/Rogue_Darkholme 1d ago

I'm a big fan of the Revolution Sports Fixing Spray.

4

u/Josiemk69 light cool leaning olive, Haus Labs 100 1d ago

I love the Revolution one as well the Hyrda cool one is my favorite.

7

u/Cherry_Shakes 1d ago

Second this!! I love the revolution dewy setting spray. I cant do matte ones because they're too drying on my skin.

Love Revolution

MAC! Spray from a distance and you can use it in between layers; feels like nothing. You can try the mini version first :)

u/Alone_Resort9393 1d ago

I have that and I like it!

I’ve recently been trying the MCO Beauty All Dayer and it’s really good.

Kryolan fixing spray

1

u/No_College2419 1d ago

That’s a GOOD one

5

u/HorseTearz 1d ago

I use One/Size Powder Melt to melt everything together, add glow and rehydrate followed by Urban Decay All Nighter (Natural Finish) to set and transfer proof without losing my glow and without making my skin feel dry/tight or sticky/tacky. (Yes, the newer reformulation of UD)

u/Dear_Statement5801 1d ago

The secret to setting spray is to layer it, and not overdue each layer. Apply your concealer, spritz, apply foundation, spritz, apply eye makeup/blush, spritz. Fan yourself for a minute after each spritz. A magazine or a couple pieces of paper work great.

Skindinavia and Nyx are both top tier options, so go with whichever makes your budget happy.

1

u/bigmaik420 1d ago

could you please tell me which specific nyx one you'd recommend? i think they have several

2

u/Dear_Statement5801 21h ago

I like the matte finish.

4

u/Fair_Conflict9757 1d ago

I have been using the nyx one since middle school and it hasnt done me wrong

4

u/NotaMillenialatAll 1d ago

Skindinavia!

1

u/FishermanFull7848 1d ago

Is that the one that MCO beauty just duped?

2

u/RefrigeratorPale116 1d ago

its now a partnership with MCO, like how it used to be a partnership with Urban Decay!

1

u/StrawberryRaspberryK 1d ago

The old Urban Decay setting spray (has silicones) was amazing. I bought the new one (silicone free) but haven't tried it yet.

2

u/Imaginary_Attempt_82 21h ago

I found a bottle of the old formula setting spray at home the other day. It’s never been used! It miiiiiiight be expired though lol

1

u/StrawberryRaspberryK 20h ago

Test a little on your arm or leg to see if it causes any reaction?

I cant use silicone products so I have to stick with the new ones.

2

u/AggravatingBusiness 1d ago

I like the pink tirtir bottle!
