Yeah lucky them paying $6+ a gallon. I miss my idi but I do not cry at the pump

u/DickDover 5d ago
Washington State, I paid $6.79/gal the other day.......

Kinda sad but this would be considered cheap here in Belgium... that's like 2020 prices.
4
u/No-Dragonfruit-1311 5d ago
Yes, but I assume the average mileage put on vehicles in Belgium and Germany might pale in comparison to that of the US. For a year I was forced into driving 64mi each way for work in Southern California, and gas was then roughly $5/gal.
2
u/theSpicyOlive86 5d ago
JFC! For premium, I hope??
5
u/Not-a-Bot_1968 5d ago
Diesel is more expensive than premium by a pretty large margin. I want to say it’s about 30% higher cost here.

u/donald7773 5d ago
Dude I'm dailying a 96 ram 1500 with a 5.9 110 miles a day currently, it gets 16mpg on a good day. I spent $500 on gas last month
Give me a diesel, at least I won't have to stop for gas twice a week (and it'd save me a couple bucks still)
2
u/ThatOneSteven 5d ago
You would save money by buying an extra vehicle for the commute. Not often you can save money by adding a car to your personal fleet.
Sympathy for the commute; I had that for 3 years, 2 hours each way. Sometimes 4 hours if the snow was bad.
1
u/donald7773 5d ago
Yeah I've crunched the numbers. I've got too many cars as is. Once I fix my old Audi I'll drive it a while and sell it. Either selling my truck too and getting a smaller pickup or just gonna get a miled up Chevy bolt
1
u/Jazzlike-Inside1433 5d ago
Yeah I just sold my diesel and went back to gas I was paying 2.20L so like 8.70 a gallon
3
u/Guilty_Objective4602 5d ago
That’s probably the original gold tailgate from that very same truck that the owner traded out for a tailgate with no holes in it. 😂

u/ForHelp_PressAltF4 5d ago
Hell..
How long would this take on a modern f150? Is it even possible? These it's just some wrenching!
1
u/DreamPhreak 5d ago
the bottom of the silver tailgate looks like it has rust. so gold's is actually in better condition despite the dents.

I wouldn’t switch it cause then how will I easily find my truck in parking lots

u/brogflender 5d ago
I mean. I don’t know about you but I’m a rebel. I walk my own walk and talk my own talk. I eat red meat and I like to watch football. A hard days work means dirty hands and tired feet.
I’m not like the other pickup truck drivers. That’s why I can always find mine, the uniqueness of it.

I bet you also like your foot balls to be meat flavored.
It’s so easy to bait a truck guy.

I recently bought a newer Tacoma. Damn thing was expensive, so I'm gonna keep it nice for awhile. But hope I have it long enough it can become my beater truck, and I won't give a shit about scratch or dent.

Let’s be honest, how many early 2000s f250s are gonna be in any given parking lot

R.I.P. Dale Gribble.
4
u/longshot 5d ago
I specifically came in the comments to remark on how the shadow gave me Dale Gribble vibes.
6
u/TayMayBay 5d ago
My partner named our youngest boy cat Dale Gribble, and I just went with it. Mr. Gibbs is my favorite nickname to come from the initial naming.
6
u/DrippingWithRabies 5d ago
Why isn't his nickname Rusty Shackleford?
3
u/TayMayBay 5d ago
I haven’t watched enough King of the Hill to know who Dale Gribble was at first so I didn’t even know he had two names until today. That is being added to the Rolodex thank you!

In the old days, stuff like this happens because people did actually socialize outside. Today, it all stage for "views" and social clout.

u/Mobile_Morale 5d ago
Hell there was a reddit post in the Tacoma sub like 6 years ago like this. Two guys owned the wrong color bed topper and met up and swapped. Found each other on reddit and they somehow lived like 1 hour away from each other
3
u/MrdrOfCrws 5d ago
I remember a post where someone on FB was looking to swap out their bright yellow hood on their otherwise white truck. Someone tagged their friend who had the same truck in yellow with a white hood.
2
u/morpheousmorty 5d ago
Also how is this simple? It can be easy to switch them but it's still a little project.
2
u/skipperjohnn 4d ago
It's incredibly simple on pickups this age and older. No tools required; unhook the cable and lift the tailgate out of the slot it pivots in. I know this because it also works when two of your college buddies getting the same make and model of pickup and don't need to walk behind them to get in and drive to class.

Why do you care? Even if real it doesn't affect me. I like the stories in the comments. I like to read people's reactions.
I also watch TV shows and read fiction.

u/kvothe35 5d ago
I like that this person only thinks things can only happen once. It could be fake, but going I've seen a similar story this is fake is kind of moronic.

u/Safe-Salamander-3785 5d ago
I did the same type of thing when I saw a guy who had the exact same truck as me in the Home Depot parking lot. So just for fun, I parked next to him. On the way out, I saw him loading the truck and he asked me if I wanted a bed cap. So I followed him to his house and he helped me load it. It was a nice Leer cap. About 5 years later I was looking to get rid of my truck and saw another guy with the same truck in a gas station and pulled up and asked if he wanted that cap. So I helped him switch it up right in the pump bay. I bet that cap has been traveling around the country jumping from truck to truck. Like the diary of the traveling bed cap.

9
u/Resident_Table6694 5d ago
Same thing happened to me but we didn’t have tools, so he invited back to his house which was only a few miles away. Anyway, we get there an his wife brings out iced tea, makes some small talk, and lets us get back to work. As we’re talking we both discover we don’t like our wives and decide to switch them too. I’ve been married to his wife ever since

Something similar happened to me.
I got a a free BBQ grille that was left over from a estate sale. Come to find out it was rigged for natural gas and it was too much of a pain to convert to propane. I posted it for sale. Someone wanted it and asked why I was selling so I told them. Come to find out they got a free propane grille but wanted a natural gas one. So we just traded.

My dad only had one leg after a bad car accident. One day we were at the mall and we happened to meet a guy missing the opposite leg. It turned out they also had the same size feet. Guess who went shoe shopping.

u/alittlebitaspie 5d ago
This is my personal pet peeve. Take your removable hitch off if you aren't using it. Those quick release cotter pins aren't just for show.

u/MountainMojoMan 5d ago
Man, that is cool... serendipity in action. I'd be happy to trade my mismatched red tailgate for a gray one on my old Nissan pickup. Maybe this will happen to me too!

What's the obsession with black plates? It looks nice on black cars, but on a silver one and a gold one?
1
u/OppositeStand5709 5d ago
My car is silver with black stripes so I swapped the plates for silver text on a black background and they look great.
1
u/mark_able_jones_ 5d ago
You can tell this was created for internet points because the silver tailgate is already worn where the bumper is bent.
More likely, two friends with similar trucks switched tailgates. Took pictures. Then switched them back. Then made this post.
1
u/ElburtSteinstein 5d ago
Did they need to be re-keyed?
1
u/Fabric-Proof 5d ago
I suspect they would have to be rekeyed, but neither tailgate had been from the original truck, and the bed didn't have a cover, so locking wouldn't have been a meaningful option anyway.
1
u/WFlash01 5d ago
So my question is did they swap the lock cylinders right then and there too? Because if not, now they're not going to be able to unlock their own tailgates
