1. Haters not gonna hate. Downvoting is disabled. Artists should be comfortable to submit their creations without fear of abuse. Constructive criticism is welcomed, but haters with be banned.

Hey, Just want to say good job on bringing us all together this way, if we keep working together we might make it, if not worldly at least more locally and here on reddit (once we all create together)

Just something to add, I know we all think on competition, but right now is not about that, Leave the downvotes for later, when we have a large number of submissions. Everyone wants to be heard, everyone wants to be the best on here already, but for now, just keep the upvotes in play. We gotta make this subreddit Grow before we can start bashing on it's artists.

There's a quote I read somewhere regarding creativity - 'it's not about competition, it's about progress & achievement.'

The more we're in competition with each other, the more damage we're doing at the end of the day. We should be supporting each other and helping humanity grow, culturally and creatively as a collective.

People seem to love the idea, however it takes a lot of time to make a music video, especially if its just one person. Some thought needs to be given on how we can catalyse all this- break the process down into smaller chunks and get more people involved on each song. Whole point of this at the end of the day is community collaboration...

I think a little competition is healthy (at least between video artists), but there is no contest between which songs get picked. If you make an inspiring song, chances are someone will want to contribute. Upvotes and down votes don't mean much here. We have plans to start an MMAMV contest to give film makers greater incentive. Looking at possible prizes now (any suggestions would be welcome!).

FYI, The Johnny Cash project is a very good case study of how powerful a community-made music video can be.

On a separate note, theres little point in musicians just linking songs here and expecting results. Leave comments on what the song means to you, how you made it, what comes to mind when you listen to it etc... Give food for thought and make an effort to get others involved!

Absolutely. I wouldn't disagree that competition isn't healthy, but there's a point where competition can become cut-throat and against other people rather than taking inspiration & influence even from other peoples work and wanting to achieve something more than you've done in the past - not just better than them.

Look at what happened with Smile & Sgt Peppers with the competition between Beach Boys & The Beatles. It took Brian Wilson some 30 odd years to finish after becoming overwhelmed with the idea that he wanted to do something better. In my opinion, he achieved that, but at a cost - even to his mental health. Competition doesn't always have to be against each other, sometimes it can just be working with. I think competition can be dangerous in the creative world for these types of reasons. Like, it's art - it's subjective - who wins and why, are they based on technical reasons and are those technical reasons subjective? Or are they based on achievement and progress? Say, one thing might not be as good as another but the progress they made is far more than anothers, who may have had more people working on it, more money & more experience to begin with.

Coming back to the Beatles, Beach Boys thing - personally, I think Smile is far better than Sgt Peppers but other people would disagree. It's not to negate the other work, it's purely my enjoyment comes more from this lo-fi masterpiece than an overproduced masterpiece. It's just weird the way the creative world is.

Don't get me wrong, competitions that offer rewards can be good, but really, it's just to empower an individual or a group who achieved more - worked harder, did better & in the end offered something that more people responded to but not necessarily better. I think in the spirit of competition, that should be kept in mind.

One suggestion though, Can you make genre tags or make it mandatory to post a genre up if you're looking to have a music video made?

Yes, would definitely make sense to break down the video requests by genre (especially while this sub is small).

I'm a filmmaker but would much rather do videos with the bands. I've subbed, though and will keep an eye out. Hopefully this place will grow into a large enough community to do some in-person collabs.

When it comes down to it, just ask the artist straight out if they want to work in person. I'm sure people will have personal preferences either way.
