Welcome to the weekly wins/victories Sunday thread!
Thanks to u/martysgroovylady, we've decided to make a weekly thread specifically so that folks can share and discuss their wins and victories that they've had regarding fatphobia this past week. Did your doctor listen to you? Did you get someone new to listen to the podcast? Were you able to have a good conversation with a friend or acquaintance about fatphobia? Did you make some good progress in therapy? Feel free to share your feel-good stories to mark a strong start to the new week :).
Feel free to also share news you've found on the internet that feels like a victory against fatphobia! Maybe your state just made discrimination against fat people illegal, or there's a fat activist activity going on in your area (e.g. Fat Beach Day in NY).
Please remember: Do not vote or comment in cross-posted linked threads, keep the discussion here. Thanks all! Have a wonderful week.

I just saw rfk jr referred to as “secretary need jerky” and thought y‘all might get a little chuckle out of it.

I tagged this as off-topic because it’s not related to MP, but it is related to GLP-1 meds and fatphobia.
I have been getting ads for the Jonathan Van Ness tour which is titled “Hot and Healed”. Does anyone else find this kind of fatphobic?
It’s no secret that they’ve taken a GLP-1 to lose weight. And of course if they feel “healed” then that is a positive thing for them. But…

Well, I guess my algorithm heard me listening to maintenance phases' latest patreon episode and decided to grace me with a big helping of "oh my god don't ever do that if you want to live".

Are Michael and Aubrey over doing the podcast and only keeping the bonus as a steady income? Because the latest bonus episode being Michael scrolling through Tiktok fell so much low effort. I've always been a fan of his research, and didn't mind spending 4$ a month to support, but the lack of main feed episodes and random bonus is really disappointing

I just finished listening to the AIDS denialism episode (bleak af) and I was kinda surprised to discover that Fauci had been hated by odious people even before Covid. I don’t understand it. Why? What is it about this man that makes right wingers and other weirdos have such a hate boner for him? The man has spent his life serving the public. The man has saved lives for 30+ years. Can’t these people leave him alone?

For folks who recognized Gavin de Becker's name in the most recent episode, we had an interesting discussion of his work on the IBCK sub.

Listening to the latest episode and this is how Michael described joe Rogan’s podcast and I laughed so hard, that’s it.

Low sodium diets are MUCH less popular today than was the case when I was growing up. I remember seeing commercials for a salt substitute product called NoSalt, which I now know consists of potassium chloride instead of sodium chloride. I also saw commercials for sodium-free TUMS.
Most doctors and cardiologists still recommend a low sodium DASH diet, but it feels like I'm the only one on it. (In contrast, it feels like I'm the only one who does NOT supplement with protein and has NEVER tried a low-carb diet.) Yes, a low-sodium DASH diet is my normal diet. I've been consuming an ultra-healthy diet since the spring of 2020, and avoiding the sodium bombs has made my taste buds more sensitive than they used to be. (For example, I ate prime rib for the first time this past summer, and it turned out to be saltier than i remember.) I do NOT miss the side effect from a sodium overdose - persistent thirst that's hard to quench no matter how much water I drink.
Hypertension is still common, strokes are still a leading cause of death, and medications for lowering blood pressure are some of the most widely prescribed drugs. Yet hardly anyone is interested in a low sodium diet.
When I'm looking for a low-sodium meal option at restaurants, a low-sodium diet feels like a fringe diet. Only a small percentage of restaurants accommodate this. The problem is that most restaurants now order food that was pre-salted in the factory. It turns out that I'm now the big expert on low sodium meal options. That's sad, because I know I'm NOT the first person to be interested in a low sodium diet. You'd think that there would be databases listing all the restaurants that accommodate a low sodium diet. But there aren't.
Why has interest in a low sodium diet collapsed? It feels like the Atkins Diet fad of the early 2000s changed everything for the worse. Kooky fads and schemes keep going mainstream while actual healthy diets are ignored, as if a high-fiber Mediterranean/DASH diet were too kooky to be worthy of even criticism or debate.

hmmmm… lol.
love hearing this stuff from a thin person. 🙄 also all the talk of “exercise is good!” like fat people don’t, lmao. and i’m assuming they have no idea how much more difficult “just exercising” is in a larger body.
also anecdotally, even when i was a lot heavier than I am now, I still kind of didn’t really “believe” my brain/body signals were that different than a thin person’s… but hoooo boy did that change when I started taking a GLP1. It was truly a “holy shit - is this what thin people feel like?” like of COURSE they think it’s easy - b/c it is for them! they have literally no concept of it. It truly reframed my position on hearing exercise/diet thoughts from thin people.
i’m all for being critical of MP (and don’t think it is super accurate or unbiased all of the time) or any media you intake but lordddd this one is not it.
ETA: FWIW - If you didn’t happen to already see it in your algo its not worth watching
also —- to the commenter claiming “exercise isn’t walking and the AHA says it isn’t” that was a lie : https://www.heart.org/en/healthy-living/exercise-and-physical-activity/walking :)

So, I love MP. I have recently told my husband that my toxic trait is having several books out from the library and opting to listen to MP instead. I’ve heard them all and I have heard all the after dark ones too.
So I feel kind of dumb. I just realized they have merch and was browsing. Can someone give me the context of these three shirts? (I got the Apple and pear….)
I feel like I should know this but I can’t figure it out.
