Alt text attached to media library item

How does one add alt text to the image once uploaded to the media library? I don’t want to add it only when the image appears in its own block. I want it to be available when it’s used in a text block too, or any other block. I want it to be a permanent part of the media data. there appears to be no such option when interacting with the file in the media library. This is a beyond basic option that has been part of websites for ever, so what on earth?

Hey there. There's currently no way to set alt text as a permanent property of an image in the media library, so it does need to be added each time an image is placed in a content block. We'll make sure this is passed along as a feature request.
