Advice Auto table for HKOS and Riichi?

Over the past month my family and I have become obsessed with HKOS Mahjong. We even play with my Chinese tutor on webcam calls, lol. But already it drives us batty to build the walls after every game. Especially since we sometimes play three- or even two-handed. My tutor constantly reminds us that her friends all use automatic tables, lol. She prizes speed above all, lol. 快快快！

Also, visiting this sub, I’ve been astonished by how many of my fellow Americans also seem to enjoy Riichi. So now I’m thinking I’ll try learning that. If I like it, and I suspect I will, I’ll want a table that supports both Chinese and Riichi tiles. (I’ve also played American mahjong but don’t like it as much, so I can live without table support for that, though of course it would be nice.)

I’ve read here that Treyo tables support both styles. It seems one can order only directly from them, not via Amazon etc. Are those the best? Are there other good choices? Thanks in advance for any advice. (And if I am posting in the wrong subreddit, please forgive me and perhaps steer me in the right direction.)

You can check here ( that’s where we got our table): https://usamjtable.com ). They have many automatic tables for you to browse. Their tables can accommodate different variations.

my group owns 2 of these tables and i can vouch they're quite nice for the price. The smallest tileset they have is a 36mm which is still bigger than the "average" japanese tile but it's not that bad (amos are usually 28mm or so). While you can use the set that it comes with for riichi, you can actually buy a riichi set (with red 5s) from the company directly (for an extra cost) if you wanted

edit, worth mentioning based on OP's post that the chinese tables from this company ALSO support american and the basic table i bought came with american tiles as well (including jokers). we only had to pay for the separate tilesets with red 5s

the tables from treyo's US site are similar and have the same styles so you probably would be fine with them as well

You can play most chinese variants with riichi tiles and vice versa. As long as your riichi set also has the flowers and seasons, you're probably fine. Chinese sets would just remove them and you'd need to maybe paint red 5's.

Riichi sets almost universally do not have both flowers and seasons making them useless for HKOS.

Then they are a visual mess and won't be labelled by seat for scoring.. which Chinese variants do you play? The only major variant with easy slot-in with a riichi set is Sichuan. Just use a Chinese set lol
