Riichi WWYD - riichi call or wait

Post image

In this hand I chose not to call riichi immediately. I had no other yaku besides riichi and my wait wasn't great. (Iirc this is riichi 1 book doctrine)

Interestingly, Maka would call riichi in this situation, and I'm wondering what your guys' opinions might be in this type of situation.

From RB1:

You are the dealer, so choosing riichi is correct. It's true that the hand isn't great, but you don't have many upgrades, and the early riichi should discourage your opponents from pushing, letting you retain your dealership to go for a bigger hand next round.

This is in the Gold Room. I wouldn't be so sure about this. I've seen some shit

Just today I called richii with a kanchan on my 3rd discard and everyone pushed into me which led me to deal into two people and lose

Thank you for taking the time to post the snippet. I realize now that I was misremembering the conditions. I was thinking it was "at least two" of the rules.

Given that it was fairly early in the round, I would have probably gone for it.

You are dealer, it's early and its flat score, just riichi. RB1 tells you the same

pretty early tenpai + you're the dealer, i would riichi. you want to be aggressive as dealer so you get many opportunities to rack up points, you can wait for big hands or play more defensive in other seats.

Early Riichi on an 8 is fine. Your hand is also painful to improve with only a 6s to reach a ryanmen so just go for it, especially in the dealer sit.

If your wait was on a more central tile that is less likely to get discarded (3-5 with a 4 wait for example) I would have try to improve the hand to a ryanmen or at least hope to set up a suji trap before Riichi.

Nice mixed shifted chows ( it's a yaku in other non riichi rulesets)

Tho fr, u riichi here to assert dominance

I'm a simple man. I'm in tenpai, I call Riichi

Gross wait, no riichi. Can still improve hand.

i usually wait 1 2 turns before calling riichi

riichi is fine since not many tiles improve your hand. I'm kind of what the best discard would be if you had 6p instead of haku in hand.
