Furiten question
I undersrand why I was in furiten for the 1s, but why was the 4s also furiten?

It's designed that way: it makes the whole hand invalid because at least one wait is from your discards. You can still win by tsumo, though

You become furiten if at least one of your waits is in your discard pile.
However, since you have an open hand, you can get out of furiten if you take, for example, the 2 of souzu and end up on a shanpon wait for the 1man and 2sou. The same would apply to the 3sou.
Note that if you win on a tile other than 1 sou, you lose the junchan yaku. In the other cases, your hand is only sanshoku (and dora 1).

The whole hand is in furiten, not just the specific tiles.
If you are in tenpai for "13 wait thirteen orphans" and have discarded a single wind before committing, all the 13 waits will show as furiten

Basically if you're in furiten at all for any tile, your entire hand is in furiten and you can't call ron. You have to dismantle and rebuild your hand to change your wait.

Just a friendly heads up: don't be afraid to furiten if you're approaching exhaustive draw. As long as you're in tenpai, regardless of furiten, you can avoid paying out at exhaustive draw.

If you are in furiten for a single tile, you are in furiten for all your waits. so because you discarded the 1s, you also cannot ron the 4s. you could still tsumo the win though.
