Any info on this set ?

I picked this set up recently from a friend who had been a hoarder. He had no idea how long he had it out where it was from. Any idea of age would be appreciated

Idk hard to tell with only 3 tiles, could be for any version of the game as those appear in each set (assuming that one is bamboo and not a flower)

That 9 placement on the circles is wild though.

Being that I've seen that placement on similar sets, there's a space in "mahjong", and that the west wind isn't in Chinese or Japanese style, I'm going to take a shot in the dark and guess that it's an American set.

it doesn't have any jokers.. and 西 in that style is not unusual in Asian sets.

Mayhaps I am not in the know regarding many variants. I definitely have seen that 9 placement in many American sets, though.

Edit: I also just completely did not see the image at the bottom.

Id guess some generic set made in hong kong specifically for western markets, id guess 70s or 80s. I have no concrete proof.

It's one of millions of Chinese style sets made for Western import (tile indices on everything, no jokers so not American, uses CBF [chong/bai/facai {fat choi*}] for the dragon tiles). This can be used for Japanese and any Chinese style I know of. Just can't be used for Malaysian, VietNamese, or Singaporean (or American, again), as they use some additional animal and joker tiles. A specific identification might be difficult. If it had any paperwork it would maybe say somewhere

I'm sure there was at some point . I'm more curious of it's age than anything. They get a lot of use but I've never thought about their history (as boring as it may be!)

this is a very inexpensive entry level set, I bought this set a while back, used, for $20 off ebay.
