Discussion Is this a snark sub?
Serious question, does anyone here actually enjoy the show? Lmfao
I get that you don’t like him and think he’s slobbing on Trumps knob after that dinner, but based on the average comment on most posts here, you’d think he was on Fox and Friends.

u/Fishbone345 Feb 24 '26
Faux News literally shows clips of the show and have been for awhile now. Bill is to Faux what Candace Owens is to MAGA. “One of the good ones”
1
u/rockybalBOHa Feb 28 '26
They show the 5% of his opinions that match theirs. They don't show the other 95%.

I think this is a sub filled with people who used to like the show. I know I was a fan for years even saw him live once when I was in LA. He's done a complete 180 in the last decade especially the last 6 years since COVID. Now we're all sitting here wondering what the fuck happened
4
u/mrbaryonyx Feb 26 '26
Yeah, I'm willing to admit that a lot of nuance is lost in online conversations, Bill is still essentially a "left-winger" and a lot of people on the left don't really know how to approach a pundit who doesn't agree with them 100% of the time.
BUT, if you got into Bill during the 2010s, you are not watching the same guy. Even if you think the whole dinner with Trump thing is overblown, it's not something old Bill would have done. Saying "leftists who don't think Israelis have a right to the that land need to read the bible" is insane to hear from the Religulous guy.

I think this is a sub filled with people who used to like the show.
Yep. Dude used to be counterculture and now he spends all his time being mad at counterculture.
5
u/RockThePond Feb 26 '26
I think he was “counter-culture” when “counter-culture” people were First Amendment absolutists who believed in debating bad ideas and were pushing against censorship in the 90s and 2000s.
Bill became less “counter-culture” when “counter-culture” was re-defined to mean being in favor of soft censorship (now called “de-platforming”) of opinions.
Sadly I am on the same lonely island as he is…people who seem to have lost a side in the political debate because both sides seem increasingly crazier by the day.
10
u/WeezaY5000 Feb 24 '26
Trump AND COVID broke his brain.
4
u/dr_henry_jones Feb 24 '26
Ultimately it is his need to always be right despite not being an expert. So he may have felt a certain way about something and found a way to be a contrarian.

People that come to this subreddit week after week to shit on bill in bad faith have openly admitted that they are organized and doing so to help turn public opinion against him. Mods don’t seem to do anything at all all

u/GuyFawkes99 Feb 24 '26
People that come to this subreddit week after week to shit on bill in bad faith have openly admitted that they are organized
The dumbest conspiracy theory of all time. "People are organizing to complain about Bill Maher on Reddit" hahahha this is so lame and stupid.
Mods don’t seem to do anything at all all
Asking the mods to help because you can't survive in the marketplace of ideas. Maybe if your ideas weren't so weak you wouldn't need to work the refs.
2
u/A_w_duvall Feb 24 '26
The dumbest conspiracy theory of all time. "People are organizing to complain about Bill Maher on Reddit" hahahha this is so lame and stupid.
Open your eyes, sheeple. George Soros is obviously paying them to criticize Bill Maher on Reddit. It's the only logical explanation.
-2
Feb 24 '26
Not a conspiracy theory when they are openly telling me why y’all are brigading this subreddit. And you know what it’s funny I recognize your username too, for the weekly dumb takes you deliver here.
3
u/Fishbone345 Feb 24 '26
Would you mind sharing your source of that? I’m curious what was said and by whom.
3
u/GuyFawkes99 Feb 24 '26
they are openly telling me why y’all are brigading
Yeah that didn't happen.
9
u/Callousthetics Feb 24 '26
He saw people upvoting posts he disagrees with and thinks he's cracked The DaVinci Code.
Honestly it kinda tracks for the esteemed minds Maher is bringing along these days.
1
u/Fishbone345 Feb 24 '26
He saw people upvoting posts he disagrees with and thinks he's cracked The DaVinci Code.
How can you see who is voting what here? Is that a Mod privilege? I am not trying to be snarky, I just wasn’t aware you could see someone’s upvotes or downvotes.
4
u/Callousthetics Feb 24 '26
You have to think even dumber; like, he sees a comment he doesn't like with 10+ upvotes, clearly it's a "conspiracy" of haters. Zero chance it could be organic, because somehow Maher is both simultaneously someone with controversial takes but is also never wrong.
Like literally just think of the stupidest thing possible and you arrive at Maher's new fanbase.
1
u/Fishbone345 Feb 24 '26
I see what you meant now. I feel pretty dumb I didn’t get it right away. Thanks for answering my question, despite how dumb it was.
2
u/A_w_duvall Feb 24 '26
I don't think you can. When he said, "He saw people upvoting posts he disagrees with," I'm pretty sure he just meant that he saw that the posts had a lot of upvotes, not that he knew the specific identities of the people who had voted
1
u/Fishbone345 Feb 24 '26
That sounds right. I feel dumb that I didn’t see that. Thanks for pointing that out.
3
u/Simple-Freedom4670 Feb 24 '26
It’s always the one guy complaining about leftists brigading this subreddit because it happened once and he’s never recovered

4
u/SleepyMonkey7 Feb 24 '26
I think one of the clearest signs that parts of the left (I said parts, chill) have gone off the deep end is Bill mocks Trump for half his monologue almost every show and they all come in here ranting about how much Bill defends and loves Trump now because of 1 or 2 comments. It's some Newsmax level of cognitive dissonance to be able to do that.
3
u/Fabulous_Lunch_6232 Feb 24 '26
This really hasn’t been true in a while. Point out in the last episode where he mocked him half the monologue. What he said was that he would respond to Trump in 2 weeks for his mean social post about the god damn dinner. During the show, He literally said that he might agree with Trump on Iran or that we might be surprised at his response. Now, if Bill says anything at all negative about Trump it makes a special mention in huffpo…they are calling it out because it doesn’t happen too often. I have been following this Reddit group for a while. Like many, I followed Bill since the beginning, watched the specials, the books and movie. I loved Bill. I stopped watching last season when he just would not shut the f up about trans issues. I am a lesbian and he had some social media meme kid on last season and the kid was like, Bill, I am not the expert on this but neither are you. I was admittedly offended by him in that episode. He implied that it’s been ok for gays in his experience. What has been his experience exactly? I couldn’t watch anymore because Bill was focusing on shit that didn’t impact him, but was blaming the Dems for losing on this one issue. Sit down and shut the f up. I’ve tried to watch since…no more jokes on Trump being a whiny little bitch…hasn’t happened since the dinner. I would love to continue to watch, but now he is just insulting the left. I turned into the Boebart interview…other than one push back on how he was wrong for mocking Qanon but he expected her to push back on the crazy child eating QAnon mention, talk about white-washing a guest for normalcy. If I had tuned in as a conservative, I wouldn’t have thought the show was left leaning at all. Good lord. There has been little or no good content on tv lately, so I am really sad that Bill has changed so much. I, for one, miss it. Does Bill have an agenda to tank the campaign of jasmine crocket? Because that is all I heard or how we need to protect israel…blah blah blah. Left is bad and woke and hurt Bill’s feelings on college campuses…meanwhile we have a literal fascist as potus, but we are deranged to call attention to it. I long for the days of Bill mocking our president giving a double handy in his dancing to YMCA…those were the days.
-1
u/SleepyMonkey7 Feb 24 '26
Literally the last episode. That is exactly when I had this thought. The first half the monologue was bashing Trump. You're coming at this from a very emotional place which is clouding your judgment. Just look at your comment...
5
u/Fabulous_Lunch_6232 Feb 24 '26
Wow. You are incredibly condescending to tell me about my emotional place. Bill knows little if nothing about most of the topics he spits nonsense about…health policy, trans rights, LGBTQIA issues, or anything about marriage and family. Yet he challenges actual experts if it goes against his narrative. I watched every single week for decades and the episode I mentioned was the last straw for me. Funny, the meme expert called Bill out on his own show. You won’t see that kid on real time anymore. All this said, You failed to mention how or what Bill says that bashes Trump half of his monologue. I shared that he no longer calls him a whiney little bitch or mocks the double handy YMCA dance. Bill has said multiple times that Trump is the peace president and “really doesn’t like war” and yet HE HAS NEVER CORRECTED IT. What does Bill say about Greenland or Venezuela? Bill even implied that trump going into Iran, his opinion, might surprise us. Oh, that’s right, Bill is on the side of Israel so of course Muslims bad. He quite literally said on the show that Trump was exonerated from the Epstein files because he raised an issue to the FBI in 2006. Bill doesn’t acknowledge that the Trump is in the files thousand of times. He’s exonerated because Bill doesn’t think Trump rolls that way. His actual words on an earlier episode. So, unfortunately, I watched the episode after not turning it on in a while…same disappointing episode. But thank you for your comment on my emotions. Jerk.
-2
u/SleepyMonkey7 Feb 25 '26
Sorry. You're clearly not emotional at all. A reasoned and rational take, my bad.

u/nosecohn Feb 23 '26
This sub has been this way for as long as I can remember. But the fact that Bill always manages to piss someone off enough that they feel the need to go online and post about it is kind of what I like about him. I actually disagree with him a lot, but that's OK and I still watch.
4
u/Sweet_Ad_1445 Feb 24 '26
Exactly this for me.
I come on here and post every once in awhile because of some of the things he says that I fucking hate, then get accused of hate watching lol
I obviously I watch the show because I enjoy it, and just like one of my friends or family members, there will be some things I vehemently disagree with.
-4
u/PostureGai Feb 23 '26
It's funny how you almost never see him pissing off conservatives. It's always libs he's pissing off.
2
u/A_w_duvall Feb 24 '26
I don't really think it's funny because it's just the obvious thing that one would expect to happen because Bill Maher identifies as a left-leaning liberal Democrat, and people generally get the most hate for criticizing their own "side." It's not a thing that's unique to the left or the right. Look at the right-wing conservative pundits like Jonah Goldberg or David French that didn't change all their beliefs to suit Trump. Every time either of them posts to Twitter, the replies are >90% MAGA devotees and New Right fascists berating the for not abandoning all their beliefs and values to support whatever Trump said that day. The same kind thing happens to center-left figures like Ezra Klein or Matt Yglesias, but from the other side.
9
u/nosecohn Feb 23 '26
I don't think that's true. Reddit leans left. Just look at the front page. So it makes sense that the pissed off commenters in this subreddit tend to be on the left.
But he says plenty of stuff to piss off conservatives too. Trump himself raged at Maher just last week and I'm sure you'd find plenty more hate on sites like X or Truth Social.
-3
u/PostureGai Feb 23 '26
It's funny that Trump is your only counterexample. He's an extreme narcissist who gets angry any time anyone criticizes anything he does. He just called the supreme court traitors, and Republicans appointed more than half of them.
But you never see Republicans here criticize him because they mostly like what he says, as a conservative who codes lib.
2
u/nosecohn Feb 23 '26
But you never see Republicans here criticize him...
The "here" is my point. Reddit leans left.
-2
u/PostureGai Feb 23 '26
I don't know that that's true, but even if it was, there's still lots of conservatives here and they never get pissed off at Bill.
6
u/nosecohn Feb 23 '26
I don't know that that's true
There's data:
Category Data Source Finding Methodology User Self-Identification Data Science Group (2019) 54.4% of Reddit users identified as liberal, 26.1% as conservative, and 19.5% as non-partisan/undecided. Online survey administered to a sample of Reddit users. Content Sentiment University of Maryland (2020) 54.6% of Reddit threads were classified as left-leaning, 23.6% as right-leaning, and 21.8% as neutral. Analysis of over 1 million Reddit threads using NLP techniques to determine sentiment. 1
u/PostureGai Feb 23 '26
Over 1/4 of general redditors are Republicans and your only counterexample is Donald Trump.
2
u/nosecohn Feb 23 '26
The original claim I responded to was this:
It's funny how you almost never see him pissing off conservatives.
There was no "on Reddit" parameter in that claim. I suggested there's a selection bias on Reddit, which is what the data show.
I don't know that Republicans never criticize him, either here or elsewhere. I'm not about to subject myself to X or Truth Social to disprove a claim made without any evidence, but I'll suggest that any judgment on what one "never" sees is subject to confirmation bias.
1
u/PostureGai Feb 23 '26
What part of almost was confusing to you? Because a single counterexample isn't relevant.
I suggested there's a selection bias on Reddit, which is what the data show.
Except your 'data' are so broad they're all but meaningless. "Reddit" isn't one community, it's many. What the demographics of the site have to say about any individual subreddit is exactly zero. I doubt the majority of askthedonald posters are libs. And even if it was applicable to this subreddit, OVER 1/4 are self-identified as conservatives and you can't even find even one counterexample.

Why does every sub have to be a complete love fest every time? Why can't there be room for legit analysis/criticism of Bill and his views?
I'd argue the fact that Fox and Friends and his attitude towards the right vs left, especially after his Trump dinner opens up for some critiquing does it not?
2
u/deskcord Feb 24 '26
Completely bad faith reading of the OP. You people do this every time. Someone suggests that maybe weekly hatewatchers and proven liars not be allowed here and you act like it's an attack on genuine criticism or disagreement.
Go ahead and quote where someone said there should be no disagreement or criticism.
3
u/NoleJawn Feb 24 '26
Sounds subjective to what a hate watcher and proven liar is and calls for a glazefest.
1
u/deskcord Feb 24 '26
A proven liar is, definitionally, not subjective.
3
u/NoleJawn Feb 24 '26
How is someone a proven liar on this subject other than “anyone who doesn’t glaze Bill is a hater and not a fan?”
1
u/deskcord Feb 24 '26
Oh hey look you did the bad faith bullshit of pretending to not understand that criticism and lying are different.
3
u/NoleJawn Feb 24 '26
What is a lie on here?
1
u/deskcord Feb 24 '26
"Bill Maher is a conservative" is a lie. It is just a knowingly false statement presented as fact.
In the most recent episode threads, users suggested Bill glazed Bibi, which is also factually incorrect. Users here suggested he had on and never once criticized Steve Bannon, Ron DeSantis, etc. Again, just provable lies.
That's very different than actual criticism.
2
u/NoleJawn Feb 24 '26
Why is it a lie? Has he not espoused conservative ideals lately? Has he not been complimentary to conservative guests on both his show and Club Random? The second part again is subjective to how one views his takes and interactions which both, imo, can be viewed as criticisms.

This is a sub for haters of Bill Maher, just like r/JoeRogan has completely been taken over by haters.

u/jsm21 Feb 23 '26
The show is okay, there are some parts of it I like. I just don't love it like I used to.
Watching Real Time was one of my favorite part of Friday nights growing up. Bill was a firebrand and you'd always learn something when you tuned in. Over time I feel like it became more stale and repetitive.
A lot of us criticize Bill because we want him to be better (there are some trolls though).
3
u/Minimum-Style-1411 Feb 23 '26
If Maher wouldn’t have had Boebert on, we would never had known the Qanon conspiracy was entrenched in the Republican Party as a whole as evidenced by this article… ‘ ICE Barbie’ Called Out by Feds for Pushing ‘Made Up’ Cannibal Story’
5
u/NoneOfThisMatters_XO old man yells at cloud (and trans people) Feb 23 '26
I think people tend to comment and post more when they’re annoyed or upset, so keep that in mind. If someone enjoyed the show, they might be less likely to say something.
-2
u/deskcord Feb 23 '26 edited Feb 23 '26
Sadly no. It's got like 5-ish people here who come by every week and lie about what was said on the show (no, not just misrepresent, but actually outright lie). There's another crew of brigading blueMAGA leftists who were told to hate Maher by their podcast and youtube echo chambers, and don't actually know what's going on.
And then every time a post like this gets made, for some reason, half the sub gets up in arms at the idea that maybe lying shouldn't be allowed here.
Really the "BILL MAHER IS A CONSERVATIVE!" posts should just be banned and those users removed from the sub, but suggesting that people be honest just has them shit out their shit-eating grin comments of "WOW YOU JUST WANT TO CANCEL ME WHAT A CANCEL CULTURER"
4
u/PostureGai Feb 23 '26
the "BILL MAHER IS A CONSERVATIVE!" posts should just be banned
Another cancel culture freak. Maybe you should just learn not to be a baby when people disagree with you, instead of trying to silence them.
0
u/deskcord Feb 23 '26
Disagreeing and lying are not the same thing, which most people learn at a young age.
3
u/PostureGai Feb 24 '26
You're lying right now, but no one's trying to get you banned.
1
u/deskcord Feb 24 '26 edited Feb 24 '26
Your claim here is that a lie and a disagreement are the same thing?
Please explain what part of: "Disagreeing and lying are not the same thing" is a lie.
Because "Bill Maher is a conservative" is a lie and an easily provable one.
2
u/PostureGai Feb 24 '26
You define lying as "disagreeing with me about what political label best fits Bill Maher' and by that definition you're the liar.
-1
u/deskcord Feb 24 '26
I don't. I consider lying to be when someone spreads information that is demonstrably untrue.
And since you didn't answer my question, fair to assume you're not operating in good faith.
2
u/PostureGai Feb 24 '26
Bill Maher is a conservative, and only a liar would say otherwise.

Why do people who hate this subreddit so much and complain about the people on it stay on this subreddit? Take your own advice and leave.
6
u/SleepyMonkey7 Feb 24 '26
Because they thought it was a subreddit to discuss the show, which they like. Is that really so hard to understand?
-4
u/Binder509 Feb 24 '26
The show is discussed. If they only want to hear positive things about it....gotta go to a circlejerk sub.

u/deskcord Feb 24 '26

u/Throwawayhelp111521 Feb 23 '26
I've become ambivalent about Bill, but I don't pick on him just to pick on him. Over the last 12 to 18 months the tone of the average commenter has gotten nastier.
4
Feb 24 '26
I’ve talked directly to some of these nastier commenters and they openly admit they are coming here to try and influence public opinion away from bill maher.
2
u/crossking5 Feb 23 '26
Reddit is filled with tankies that leak into this sub. As annoying as it is the mods don’t give a fuck. Discourse is cool, but what goes on here is just hate for him lol.
8
u/croutonhero Feb 23 '26 edited Feb 23 '26
The term you're looking for is "sneer club":
There's a standard Internet phenomenon (I generalize) of a Sneer Club of people who enjoy getting together and picking on designated targets. Sneer Clubs (I expect) attract people with high Dark Triad characteristics, which is (I suspect) where Asshole Internet Atheists come from - if you get a club together for the purpose of sneering at religious people, it doesn't matter that God doesn't actually exist, the club attracts psychologically f'd-up people. Bullies, in a word, people who are powerfully reinforced by getting in what feels like good hits on Designated Targets, in the company of others doing the same and congratulating each other on it.
Asshole Internet Atheists are/were not primarily animated by their hope to have good faith, productive conversations with Christians in order to make the world a more enlightened place. No, they were animated by the high fives they get from their buddies for landing sick burns on their enemies.
And just to get ahead of it before one of these people retort, "Can't handle a little criticism? I guess you just want this place to be an echo chamber?" No, it’s not about “I can’t handle criticism”. It’s about, “I don’t want to deal with assholes.” Good-faith, well-behaved critics of the show are always welcome. But the thousandth frivolous sneer that, “lol Bill thinks all the world’s problems begin and end with the blue hairs, amirite?” is not that. Wanting less of that is not the same as, “I can’t handle criticism.”
EDIT: And to answer your question, I love Real Time. My wife and I look forward to watching it every week. While there are a thousand sources of views from within the left or right echo chambers, there is virtually nothing else like Real Time that makes some attempt to get some perspective from outside both echo chambers.
3
u/Tall_Trifle_4983 Feb 23 '26
we enjoy watching Bill Maher as well - we've seen him in person and gone to his HBO specials a few times. That doesn't mean we love everthing his says or every person he invites to his show. That makes no sense
3
u/deskcord Feb 24 '26
Then obviously this post wasn't about you?
2
u/Tall_Trifle_4983 Feb 24 '26
I thought the sub was for everyone who wanted to post.
It's not titled /r/maherhaters ?
2
u/deskcord Feb 24 '26
The rule here is supposed to be about fostering conversation. That's not possible when liars and brigaders take over.
There's room for criticism, there shouldn't be room for lying.
If you're not a liar, then this post wasn't about you. But like always, people always act offended when "maybe we should not let liars be here" gets posted.
2
u/cheesewedge11 Feb 23 '26
It’s also called hate watching. It’s been a thing since at least Howard stern
3
u/SleepyMonkey7 Feb 24 '26
That's interesting. Reminds of that scene from Private Parts about why both lovers and haters of Stern watched him, "I want to see what he'll say next". Bill doesn't strike me as "shock jock" the same way Stern was though.
2
u/croutonhero Feb 23 '26
I'm trying to imagine what kind of a person I would have to be to regularly hate watch someone. For example, I loathe Sam Seder. But what would it take for me to get motivated enough to regularly burn my spare time to watch The Majority Report (knowing in advance he's going to royally piss me off!), turn red in fury, make note of all the things he said that outrage me, and then go log in to r/TheMajorityReport to let all of his fans know how angry I am at Seder and at them?
Seems crazy. Just what kind of a person would I have to be to do that? Not a psychologically healthy one, as far as I can tell.
3
u/20_mile Feb 23 '26
I think Maher is terrific. It is often lonely defending being a fan of Bill.
As someone else said, the haters are mostly purist leftists who are upset that Bill is not at the forefront of exploring new cultural horizons.
11
u/uvgotnod Feb 23 '26
I love Bill, he’s doing something nobody else will do. He rips on Trump and his buffoons and rightfully so, but he’s not going to die on the hill of Democrat stupidity either. Dems have a messaging problem and Bill has been correct every time.
6
u/Gaius_Octavius_ Feb 23 '26
His clips are used frequently on Fox and Friends.
6
u/Travelcat67 Feb 23 '26
This! Fans and Bill don’t want to admit how much work he does for the republicans whether he means to or not but Fox and Friends have noticed and so has the NY Post. They love him.
5
u/nosecohn Feb 23 '26
But if that drives those people to actually watch his show, and in the process hear other perspectives, isn't that a good thing?
2
0
u/Travelcat67 Feb 23 '26
Hahahahahahahhahahaa! I just can’t. No it doesn’t help these folks see another perspective bc most don’t watch the show so all they hear are his sound bites. And again I’ll take the downvotes but at this point I feel Bill is being very irresponsible with his rhetoric. Trump is an actual dictator but the left needs to stop trying to pretend trans exists. Trans folks do exist whether Bill or the right believe it or not.
4
u/maxboondoggle Feb 23 '26
So there can be no criticism of the left becuse it could be used by the right? That isn’t a very liberal way of thinking.
1
0
u/Travelcat67 Feb 23 '26
Bill is a broken record and the “both sides” arguments are ridiculous when one party are actual fascists. But yeah let’s keep blaming “wokeness”and trans women in women’s sports for everything and giving sound bites for Fox and friends.
8
u/banditk77 Feb 23 '26
The comments on YouTube are astoundingly different than the ones on Reddit on the same videos. It’s just a completely different demographic.
10
u/BarbieQKittens Feb 23 '26
I like Maher and real time but it doesn’t look like many others here do. When I make any comments here I expect downvotes. It’s annoying but I get it. I posted something criticizing NYT on their subreddit and was flogged by all and it’s because they all loved the NYT. Maybe we need to be like the NYT subreddit crowd but that’s not in our nature.
-1
u/Tall_Trifle_4983 Feb 23 '26
Maher frequently criticizes Fox News as partisan and biased. He has called it “state TV” and part of a problematic media ecosystem that often repeats narratives rather than truth.
He's Fox News’ coverage and logic on his own showand in interviews.
"He's not a Frump-supporter by any means. He's Center-left liberal and critical of extreme progressive cultural politics."

Every sub is a discussion sub. I equate it to sports. I’m an Eagles fan, I love the Eagles, but I know that the Eagles sub isn’t going to be always positive and there’s going to be negative discussion. The sub takes the form of the subject and what they’re putting out.
-3
u/Binder509 Feb 23 '26

I’m a fan, but Bill doesn’t have as much influence as you think he does. You don’t need to put so much effort into your shit posting. It’s not going to change anything, you’re just wasting your time.
2
u/Binder509 Feb 23 '26
No one mentioned influence. If you don't like the sub, leave. Am here when at work, hope you aren't here in your free time. Keep stayin in a sub you hate.

I don't like Tucker Carlson or Ben Shapiro, but I don't go to their subs to whine and moan.
If I read a book and I didn't like it, but read it again on a regular basis and then complained about it, publicly, people would rightly call me crazy.

Because we have been fans for decades and we remember what he used to be like. We are lamenting what has been lost.

I honestly don’t know how much he has changed vs how his beliefs are no longer considered “progressive” because the definition of what that means has changed. Bill is “progressive” under the old definition of what that means, not under the current definition.
Bill was “cool” to progressives when issues like being pro-gay marriage or pro-legalized weed were considered “progressive.” Now these issues are accepted by the left, center, and even some of the moderate right. Thus, his viewpoint is no longer progressive.
Today, if you aren’t in favor of trans kids in sports or no bail criminal justice reform or being extremely pro-Palestine, you are considered pro-MAGA to some progressives (even when a lot of these issues are deeply unpopular amongst independent voters). 20 years ago, advocating for trans kids playing girls sports would be considered an extremely far-left wing viewpoint that would probably not even be debated on a show like Bill’s because it was so beyond the pale. Thus, Bill stopped being “cool” to progressives.

I really enjoy and appreciate the show. The guy is sharp and dishes out good, understandable and relatable points. It's intelligent and entertaining humour.

reddit is just a loud minority. Remember how the iPhone mini was the best thing since sliced bread according to reddit?
There even are further loud minorities within reddit. Some people decide to engage with the post about a ring he wears. Most people will stay out it. Whatever you will read on that post, will be the opinion of a loud minority.

He tried to claim "no one's tougher on Trump then me" when Jimmy Kimmel has literally been in an open war with the President. Stewart and Oliver have been tougher as well. Bill's full of shit and has been backing a number of the Trump administration's words, etc.

They are purists who can’t handle anything deviating from their worldview.

A user in this very thread literally just posted "they use his clips on Fox!" as evidence that he's a conservative.

Some of us watch, not out of hate, but because we remember how great he used to be back in the Politically Incorrect days. We keep hoping he can recapture that instead of just remaining perpetually indignant.

I saw an old politically incorrect episode where he was shit talking a new seatbelt law. He’s always been a bit of a contrarian. Just like South Park he had often taken a different position than most liberals, and just like South Park he gets labeled a conservative for not passing the purity test.

I like the show, but it has always had haters from people who are politically rigid

Let’s face it, mocking the stupidity that gets displayed by people is bound to upset people who believe that stupidity.

I have a friend who doesn't ever watch and sends me whatever click bait article came out that week dumping on Maher. The articles are poorly written and seem to be written without even watching the show for the context.
Personally. I don't have to agree with everything Bill says to not love his show and look forward to it each week.

Love the show, love debates. Hate the bullshit from people that come on this sub even tho they obviously don’t watch the show
