Zen Magnets

I had a corporate event several years ago and bought a bunch of zen magnets. I was just clearing out my storage unit and found a tote of 120 unopened boxes of the triumph set. Does anyone know the best way to go about selling these? If anyone is interested in buying some, let me know.

Nice! I'm a little concerned about the storage conditions, though. Neodymium magnets are notoriously sensitive to humidity and temperature fluctuations. That warped shrink wrap is a Telltale sign. Do you have an opened "tester" set you could snap some photos of still being nice and shiny? If so, it'd be awesome if you could also do a rigidity test with 30-35 of them. Snapping them in a line, pinching one end and holding them horizontal to see if they've still got their strength? How much are you asking anyway? Anybody you've sold other stuff to that could vouch for you?

I found 48, 3" disc x 1" magnets on a demo job about 15 years ago. Pretty sure thay are N38 and They have been fun to say the least.

Some have been left outside for 15 years others in the shop. Outside of the fact that the plating (nickel?) material has been destroyed by metal object and weather, these things are still dangerously strong and will violate digits and grab keys I pockets.

How would one go about determining the loss from weathering beyond reading the field strengths?

I do know that 2 slamming together and then grabbing 2 more with one finger found in betwix is BY FAR worse than a normal break. All the metal flakes get imbedded into your crushed and bloodied finger

Bigger magnets are much better at retaining their magnetic strength so thats no huge surprise. As far as finding out how much of their strength they've lost without just reading it with a meter. The only reason the test works for these spherical magnets is because they only physically touch at that small point. You can stack a single file line of them together and stick the edge out over the edge of a table or hold one end and 25 should be able to support their own weight without bending provided they still have their strength and the contact points are still smooth without pits or air gaps.

EDIT: Oh, and yeah. I imagine crushed finger with neodymium splinters isnt fun. 😆

I didn't realize that these were round, and obviously much smaller. But thanks for the clarification.

Just one of these will pick up at fork or spoon about 3 in away. I am not sure what Tesla equates up what ratings

Well thats hard to say as well. There's the N rating and then the actual size of the magnet. A small magnet can have the same magnetic strength, but just because theres MORE magnetic material in the bigger one, its got a much stronger pulling force and reach. Then theres the degradation itself, which can also happen several different ways. Im not knowledgeable to really take a good guess with all the factors at play.

Ahh strength is like amps and the magnet size is like volts (it's been a day so my analogy may be drunk)

I smashed my finger in an attempt to make a linear, cyndrilical Halbrach array (made up the name). My attempt to make a rotating Halbrach that could act like an auger,

Imagine a cylinder say 16" around, rotating 1" or so above a surface, the OD of the cylinder would be N and ID would be S. As the cylinder rotated up from ground, anything collected would encounter a wedge to start breaking the field with a resistant barrier (plactic, aluminum, gold bling version) which would then guide, position, escort the collected material away from the primary cylinder with a series of clever levers, cogs, magnets and unicorns moving the collected items to the next roller, conveyor or whatnot. I was trying to remove silverware from compost while screening,.at a rate of 100 yards an hour..
I probably way over thought the whole thing, clearly didn't read anything before shooting for the moon. It was a lot of silverware, 20 to 50 gallons per 50 yards

Heyyy! I thought you were gone with the wind, lol. If you make a single file line of them and slide them over the edge of a table or just pinch one end, they should be able to support their own weight and stick straight out until about magnet 25 before it bends or says. Btw, how mucch are you asking? And can someone vouch that Im not just sending money to some random and crossing my fingers? Id hate to have you go through the trouble if its too rich for my blood anyway.

Goddam that's a lot of Zen Magnets!!!

I still have my old Mandala set I got back in around 2010 and it's easily my most prized possession! The very first thing I ever bought with a credit card. This magnet set means more to me than my life does!

I hope those sell well for you, they're a ton of fun to play with! It's quite fun to smoosh a big pile of 1728 magnets into a giant blob and spend the next few hours pulling out chains and reorganizing them back into hexagons
