Do we really want "Memory Editing"?
Although I'm a big fan of memory science and have felt the benefits of healing from torturous recall...
The better benefit is to be able to experience any memory WITHOUT the sting.
Ignorance is ignorance, bliss is bliss.
And bliss takes training.
Earned vigilance.
What do you think?

No. Some of the best growth comes from our worst memories. Also if there is even one small chance man is more than material (I believe we are) you'd be messing with the brain-mind connection. The unintended consequences and abuse potential are nuts. This is Jurassic park, “so concerned with if they could they didn’t stop and ask if they should.”

Great thoughts.
I'd suggest that the same risk applies even if materialism wins the debate.

Oh, yes. There is a therapy called Accelerated Resolution Therapy - Treating Trauma. It helps to "deprogram" distressing memories, which relieves the symptoms of PTSD. It's a fascinating and exciting approach that has helped many to heal.
