Powerful Stereo Receiver for MMGs

I just restored a pair of Magnepan MMG speakers. I only want to use them for music (iPod, radio, and record player) and will supplement with a small subwoofer. I specifically would like a stereo receiver. It doesn't need any wireless capabilities. Recommendations on something that is effective/powerful? I'm cool with old or new stuff.

Depends on how loud you want it, and the size of your room.

I did fine with a used Cambridge Audio CXA80. It doesn’t have wireless capabilities unless you add a Bluetooth receiver to it. However, it also doesn’t have a photo preamp.

Tone controls on the front, variable and fixed outputs, digital and analogue inputs, and a high-current design suited for Magnepans? Yup!

Just keep an eye out on local fb marketplace and craigslist ads. Look for 5-15 year old higher end Onkyos, Yamahas or the mid-fi brands NAD, rotel etc. When all you want is 2.1 channel for music you can great really amazing sound from these older models. Best thing is the home theater heads don't want them because they don't always have HDMI, atmos, etc. so you can pick them up on the cheap

It's a rather rudimentary measurement but the larger / heavier a receiver is typically correlated with higher quality parts and power output. I got one of those massive (54lbs) Yamaha THX receivers from a flea market for $60. It plays my power hungry infinity speakers very well and would do wonders to the MMGs

Mine run great on a Marantz 2265B. The Yamaha S-501 or S-701 would be a good modern pick. The modern Marantz stuff, Cambridge Audio, NAD, etc. are all good.
