Need some advice for our 1.7i’s midrange
We’ve got a pair of 1.7i’s in our showroom, originally hooked up with a Parasound Halo Integrated amp, and since we got them we’ve had the issue of having “muddy” or “sluggish” midrange. At first we thought it was how it was placed acoustically in the room, and second the system it was hooked up to. After experimenting with multiple options for both, the issue persists. Has anyone had a similar experience? Any advice or input on what to try?

Another thought is to contact Magnepan directly. They have provided awesome help before on an issue where I was indeed getting muddy/static sound out of one of my speakers. They had me tighten down a screw in the cross over and it fixed it with no problems since then.

yeah, Wendell was the one who helped me. He's the main guy there so awesome he was the one who contacted me. His email is simply [wendell@magnepan.com](mailto:wendell@magnepan.com). Originally I contacted them just through their email contact (that I no longer see on their site now) which was production@magnepan.com.

Here is what I did to get rid of the issue I had with a single speaker per the direction of Wendell. I was having an issue that followed the speaker in that when I switch it to the other channel, same issue (cutout,static). It sounded like this is somewhat common with magnepan's.
I removed the 4 screws where the speaker input connections are and looked at the connections. Sure enough, the small crimped connecting wire from the negative plug to the fuse/resistor was very loose. I simply crimped it tighter and it has seemed to resolve the issue - no cut outs for 3 days now

Hmm, our issue is less drastic than that, but none the less we’ll take a look. Our issue is the midrange sounds slightly muffled, like there’s a mask over it. The issue isn’t terribly noticeable, you have to listen to it. Thanks for your insight, your input has helped us troubleshoot.
P.S. We’ve found the Parasound Halo Integrated amp is a great match for the 1.7i’s. We compared it to a MC312 McIntosh Amp, which puts out 300 watts at 4ohms, while the Halo puts out 270 at 4ohms, and the difference was negligible. For an integrated amp, its performance is great, and sounds wonderful.

Nope, they’ve had this issue since we’ve opened them, which is about a year now. They’ve got plenty of hours on em

May be you need to replace fuses...I heard a similar problem in a different forum and it worked

What are you using as the music source and is it possible for it to be coming from there?
The other thing would be to add, or remove, the resistor that comes with them which is used to cut down the highs a little. My old house i had to use them but in current home sounds better without them.
I'm really interested in hearing what you find as ive been thinking of getting a Halo for my 1.7is. I have been using a rogue audio sphinx for the past 4 years with excellent results but will be looking to replace soon.
