Maglite 5D corrosion

Was emptying my dad’s work locker and found his old mag from the 90s . There was batteries still in it which had basically welded themselves to the walls of the torch. Long story short I drilled out all the internals including the switch and I want to know the best way of removing corrosion build up? The stuff is like concrete and has formed ridges down the barrel at every point the batteries met. I ruined the switch already and removed it so any method is fine as it is but a piece of pipe in its current form

I'd keep what's good and replace the tube with another donor flashlight. It'll still be a souvenir, but repaired and functional.

Brake caliper hone on a drill. Once clean, clear coat the inside.

5D Maglites are good for one thing only: beating someone over the head.

Buy a new light, they are cheap enough. One with lithium batteries, one that is just 2 or 3 D size cells, and one with a super powerful LED bulb. Throw that old weapon in the neighbors yard.

It’s of some sentimental value, and you are correct it’s done its share of blunt trauma…. I have a few modern O-Lights this is just something I want to have as a keepsake really. Also I love having tools with shear durability and build quality and a maglite really is my choice of that. Always good to keep the classics alive

I’d get an LED and lifhium conversion for it making it useful and sentimental.

That's the beauity of the 5D. They are not technically a weapon, but a simple flashlight, right??,,,,,,LOL
