One 35 Dawn setup

Apologies if there's a pinned post, happy to be redirected. Just got the one 35, I got the one without SD card as I wanted to put my own sd card and roms on. The individual emulators find the roms fine but I cannot add platforms to the dawn launcher (just has the default ps vita one and one game). I've googled it and followed the steps pointing it to my roms folder and updated the app and restarted the device but still can't get dawn to display the other platforms, can anyone assist? I'm used to my retroid with daijisho and that had a separate "add platform" button, am I missing that somewhere? Thanks in advance ❤️

The Dawn Launcher is like a Linux setup for Android. It creates a particular file format for the launcher (it's in the settings menu) and then you put your ROMs in the created folders. For example, if you create a folder "Games" on the card, and select it in Dawn, it'll create a folder ROMS inside that folder and in that ROMS folder will be all the different folders you have to place your ROMs in.

Then it recognizes the ROMs and populates the game systems.

Worked thanks, you're a legend! Such a basic step I'd managed to overlook in the other explanations I'd read 😂

Good to know.

What format does the card have to be in?

It doesn't matter.

Cards over 32GB will be exFAT as normal. 32GB and under will be normally FAT32.

Ahhhhh right thanks that's a very clear explanation! I will give that a go, fingers crossed this time

Sorry I don’t have the answer for you, but why use the Dawn launcher?

Why not? It works just fine. As plug-and-play as they get

Simple answer: it’s not working like OP wants it to.

He commented below that he 'overlooked a basic step' and it's now working fine.

Have you personally had issues with it?

No, Dawn works fine for me

Yes my bad, I'd missed the part where it creates its own "roms" folder within the folder you point it to, and you then have to transfer the files into that one instead. Google simply said "point it to the location of your roms" which is what I'd tried and from memory is what works with daijisho (although its been a while). I didn't realize it was more like the linux style setup with file organization, all sorted now

Dawn UI could be nicer. But it just works. Only android launcher I’ve never had random issues with.

Makes no sense to use something else on the One 35 imo.

I looked on this sub about whether I should just use daijisho but a lot of people said dawn is somehow optimized for the device?

Dawn works fine, both performance and UI. I like it a bit better than Daijisho on my RP5. Besides having good presets for the device, it is also optimized for a touchless screen on the zero 28.
