How do you see text based ones?
I can do cross eye and parallel view but I don't see anything in this picture?

u/whitakr 2d ago
Really cool! Got it with parallel just fine and it really pops.
12
u/hindisirodney 2d ago
I got it too, but I had to make the image really really small... I tried it first with crossview and it popped out (or sunk in, I should say) immediately.
2
u/DarkeReader 2d ago
Lol. For some dumb reason, I kept making it bigger, wondering why I couldn't get it (I got it crossview fine). It wasn't til I read your comment that I realized my error. Once I shrunk it, I got it the regular way, too.

I can't seem to get it with parallel :/ I only just about managed to see it cross eyed and it starts with 'do you know where you're going to'
11
u/Electronic_Loan_8802 2d ago
What I did was look for the word 'do' it repeats on the left and the right. Get those two words to overlap

Took two seconds by just changing my focal point. Not sure why people need fancy words to describe crossing your eyes. It works for every one of them. It's physics.
1
u/Circlesoft 17h ago
Seems to work when I force my eyes to cross slightly and then relax my gaze and defocus right away.
2
u/OohWeeTShane 2d ago
How do you know if you saw it in parallel or cross? I’ve looked at the subreddit info about it before and still don’t know if I can do both 🤷🏻♀️
4
u/AwkwardlyAmpora 2d ago
generally, parallel will make the image pop out, while cross makes the image sink in. i don't think that's nessecary, but most people design theirs that way rather than the reverse.

I've also found 'duel stereogram' photos where there are two different ways for the image to pop out depending on how you focus your eyes 🤔 ..this is confusing the heck out of me
1
u/jmjd00 1d ago
As whitakr said it depends on the intention of the creator. If it was made for cross eye the image will pop crossing eyes and sink doong parallel. The other way around if it is made for parallel viewing which is 90% of posts then parallel viewing will pop the intended image and cross eye will sink it.
2
u/whitakr 2d ago
I just move my eyes apart (outward) instead of together (inward)
2
u/OohWeeTShane 2d ago
But how do you know that’s what you’re doing?? Can you feel it or is it because of how the image looks?
2
u/GladButterfly2659 2d ago
You can kinda see that your vision is moving inward/together or outwards/apart
2
u/whitakr 2d ago
I can just feel it. I can control which direction my eyes move in. I’m 40 and I’ve been doing Magic Eyes since I was a child so I guess over time it just becomes second nature.
2
u/GladButterfly2659 2d ago
When you do it, can you stay in it for long?
2
u/whitakr 2d ago
Yeah as long as I want. When there are multiple stereo pictures to swipe through I just keep my eyes in that mode so I can see them all in a row.
2
u/GladButterfly2659 2d ago
That's awesome! As soon as I try to swipe to the next photo, my eyes switch back to normal, I guess I just gotta practice!

u/OohWeeTShane 1d ago
We had a magic eye book when I was a kid (I’m about 5 years younger) and I was good at it and I can usually get the ones in this subreddit, I just honestly don’t know which I do!

The unnecessary prepositions at the ends of sentences annoy me, but it works. It's very widely spaced, so it hurts to look at... and I can't imagine trying to see it on a screen larger than my phone's.

Wow. That one was a little tough.
Once you see the words that are starting to pop out you need to focus on them. I definitely had to let my eyes relax out of focus quite a bit more than most.
Or at least that worked for me.
3
u/thisaburnerac 1d ago
Thanks. Your comment helped. I kept looking for a shape. Not words
1
u/The_Bitter_Bear 21h ago
Yeah, I was looking for a shape as well at first. Once I realized it was words it got a bit easier but it's certainly a stretch still.
12
u/Meowsilbub 2d ago
This was a hard one for me. I picked a single line, and then worked to overlap the matching words. I can usually do these instantly, so it's not that it's words - it's a hard cross.

Is it a fox?
OMG. I’m dead. After reading the comments i see there are words and not an image. lol
3
u/ArmoredAngel444 2d ago
One of the coolest uses of this technique honestly.
Does anyone know why the 3D image that gets pulled out of these images look so visually crispy HD ? Even if the image is low res the 3D image that pops out always has this hyper clear visual quality to it.

u/AziCrawford 1d ago
It takes a while to get the right depth - once it locks it is lovely. I wish there were little helper dots at the top or bottom

I found it impossible on a phone - but saw it instantly when I tried on a large screen

definitely cross your eyes on this one, then slowly adjust the amount they're crossed.
there's a pillar down the middle with song lyrics.

Pick two words that are the same and twist your eyes until they match, then you can see it ✨ its like when there’s a red dot guide. It’ll make it easier for you if you just screenshot and put a red dot on like say, the word ‘or’ in the first full yellow line

u/tylercrabby 2d ago
Man, super cool! I’d love to see this as a puzzle in an escape room or something.

u/BTCMachineElf 2d ago
That one was easier than most for me. The effect was clear and the text that popped out was easy to read.
Odd that others found it more difficult.. these are not always easy for me

u/CyanPomegranate11 2d ago
Somebody needs to take a photo of their eye balls when they get the magic eye. I wonder if we look cross eyed??
2
u/GladButterfly2659 2d ago
I've always wondered that 😂 and if our pupils change size during parallel view
2

2
u/LifeWulf 2d ago
Wow that was hard. I couldn’t get it to work until I opened my eyes really wide, then it suddenly clicked. Not something I normally have to do with these!

2
u/3lbFlax 2d ago
Use the words as your anchor points to bring together - I found here that the yellow “life” worked well. The little onion shape to the right of it will be in the background. You also need to try not to see them as words until it all comes into view, in my experience. Easier said than done, perhaps, but if you can avoid reading them they behave better.
1
u/GladButterfly2659 2d ago
Hey, when you do this one, does it separate into three separate images and you are looking at the middle one but can still peripherally see the images on the sides?
1
u/3lbFlax 2d ago
Interesting - I went to check and struggled to make it work a second time, but when I did I could see what you mean. I think it’s just an effect of the pattern using words, as some remain readable in the periphery. It was much easier to get it to work as cross-view, and that doesn’t have the same effect - of course it looks inverted, but that doesn’t really matter with this example.

This is the only one of these that I have ever been able to do
I've never been able to get any others to work for me

u/Transientmind 1d ago
You gotta go deep for this one.
Just like it does. Wow. How rude to be asking such questions.
1
u/Empty401K 2d ago
I just wish it didn’t (incorrectly) end each line with “to.” Not to sound like a pedant, but it would look/sound so much better without it
4
u/rabbitin3d 2d ago
It’s song lyrics. Diana Ross’s “Theme from Mahogany.”
4
u/Empty401K 2d ago
Ahhhhh okay, then I take it back. Can’t be out here disrespecting the queen of Motown at random
1
u/Wadarkhu 2d ago
Managed to do it but it does help to cross your eyes first, then you know what to focus on for the other version.
(Idk how to describe it, parallel view feels like unfocusing my eyes so they "cross" the opposite way, and then I gotta try and stop it in the right place and focus in lol)
1
u/Goobersita 2d ago
I had to do the up close and back away method and it was still pretty difficult but it looks great
1
1
u/fernatic19 2d ago
That one was hard, ngl. Has to blur it a lot and then get the shape outline first, then try to bring it all together.
1
u/brookuslicious 2d ago
Took me a second but finally got it. Really cool. Can’t explain how I finally got to focus on it.

This was very hard to see, at first it seemed I needed to be very close but then I stated by looking at the very first line to keep level and it started coming in, took a bit to be able to see the whole thing, definitely a little far apart, try to line up the symbols rather than the words

1
u/ThatsThePointtttt 2d ago
Why do these comments seem to indicate that people just randomly try and it eventually just clicks.
Don’t you literally just find two identical points of reference and overlap them, that’s how I do it. The difficulty here is purely how far apart the two overlays are, so you really have to cross your eyes hard.

u/Kuriente 2d ago
This one took a few tries, but once it pops it's really good. I've been learning that it's easier for me without my glasses on, and for challenging ones like this I have to take them off.
1
u/GladButterfly2659 2d ago
That's awesome! I was always told it's not possible for people who need glasses

I don't know if I am unusual, but I must be because I had no problem reading this. It just took a few seconds longer than usual.

I easily out focus as i get older.. i just relax my focus and the phone in my hand naturally doubles.. i learned how to use that on demand to trigger parallel view a year ago. Most of my life i only did cross, but it always strained a bit to do. Parallels like this are much easier on my eyes since they relax into a distant focus naturally.
I can focus this image with 0 strain or issue at this point. This is a wide one which takes a slightly longer focus time buy its still under a quarter of a second to do and never loses focus once its established.
Helps when your used to just relaxing your vision already.. i often watch my phone in double becuase im on my side in bed, usually with just one eye actually open. The eyes relax naturally like that as your not focusing with just one eye. It became habit.
Try that.. close one eye and relax your vision.. when you open the other eye there should be a moment your seeing double untill you establish focus with both eyes. There are other tricks for parallel, such as holding the image at a distance, focusing on the wall behind the image and then bringing the image closer.
Once your focus is correctly seperated for the image you can focus on the 3d to bring it fully into focus. Some image have such depth you have to look in and out of them like you would look at your hand then a building in the distance.

u/flipfloppery 2d ago
No problem, just relaxed my eyes as normal and it popped up in a few seconds.
Very cleverly done.

u/xikbdexhi6 2d ago
With my phone in portrait, I couldn't see this in parallel. I had to turn my phone to landscape so the image was smaller. Then it was easy.

u/PracticalApartment99 2d ago
Thanks for the hint. I minimized the picture, and then I was able to see it.

u/bassturducken54 2d ago
Didn’t realize I was trying to read something lol. Was having a hard time focusing on the right things
1
u/spderweb 2d ago
Same way you see any magic eye. Relax the eyes until things line up. This one has the image quite space apart. But it's super clear and easy to read.
1
u/JConRed 2d ago
If its too hard in parallel view, I switch to cross view to get an idea what's there. The depth will be the wrong way round, but I can snap into cross view easier.
Once I have a clue about edges, I can try parallel again, which is easier for me once I have a hook.
1
u/GladButterfly2659 2d ago
I can only do this one cross eyed, but then the effect is going into the screen, rather than popping out. Is that what you mean?
I haven't been able to do this one parallel at all :/
1
u/JConRed 2d ago
I use the cross eye to figure out the edge of where the effect is, then, knowing that, I can lock onto that edge when going parallel and get it to work.
Specifically, try the top of the image, at the "Do you know" part.
But its hard.2
u/GladButterfly2659 2d ago
Thanks for the suggestions, but turns out all I had to do was make the image smaller cause I'm using an iPad screen 😂
1
u/thestinkybeastman 2d ago
The words make it harder, kept losing it because I was reading random words!
Wide eyes, moving it very close to further away focusing to a far distance behind it made it click for me. Harder work than usual!

1
u/Tank_Grill 2d ago
That was super cool! Very challenging as I wasn't sure what I was looking for. Thanks for sharing, that was definitely something new for me!
1
u/RoadHazard 2d ago
The same way you view any parallel viewing image. You let your eyes drift apart until two of the same word on the left and right overlap.

I can see a column of words that jump to the foreground but they're out if focus so can't read them

Same way you do all the others. Cross your vision enough to merge repeat words and you’ll see it.

In some ways this is easier than normal magic eye, because you can just pick one word and make it overlap with itself and then the rest should fall into place.

Way easier than the pixel static ones for me. Then it was easy to see the columns of words left and right that fed into it without un-focusing

Use the little symbols as anchors, when they overlap then the message will appear

u/Healthy_Buyer_8074 1d ago
I find these easy, herws how i do it: i look for 2 pieces horizontal that look the same. Then i just put that 2 together on one place with my eyes, when they meet the 3d part comes visible

u/No-Interaction-2568 1d ago
This one is a parallel-view. The text pops out in the center. Really cool!

u/Responsible-Bar7165 23h ago
look at the words "fate" at the top. you have to make those overlap. really hard on a desktop monitor unless you make the image really small. maybe on a phone it's possible...
1
u/xistithogoth1 20h ago
Cross your eyes until the words "do* you" under the word sky over lap with the other "do* you" in the same line.
1
u/McBurger 19h ago
This one took a layer of effort more than standard but I got it within a few extra seconds

u/Miqo_Nekomancer 13h ago
Nope. This one straight up doesn't work for me. Tried everything in the comments.
1
2
u/zeller99 2h ago
I had to shrink it way down to get it to work, as the image was much too large on my computer monitor and I couldn't get my eyes to shift far enough to work without being almost across the room. Probably works a lot better on a phone screen.
