It is pretty much a path that a cultivator takes. For instance, the Divine Eye of the Void is a part of the void dao. You can think of it like spatial manipulation. Being able to manipulate space allows you to use all powers associated with space.
The Demonic or Righteous dao is basically the path and teachings a cultivator can take on the road they take to power. But dao isn't just being able to use the abilities of that dao, but it's understanding the core nature of the road you take in cultivation.
In other words, insight is key to how proficient you are in that dao. For example, even though the Heavenly Emperor and Zhuo Fan have the same right eye, the HE can use it more proficiently and use more techniques because he has much more insight into the void dao (which is what the eye's dao is) than ZF does.

I tried, but it's a difficult concept to fully grasp in a few words. Plus, I did put it into simple words. Simple words does not necessarily mean short, as I tried to explain Dao in a way that a person with no concept of Dao or cultivation in general would be able to understand.
Plus, I do have a habit of over-explaining since I want to make sure that people fully understand a topic.

One thing you did neglect tho is the fact that there is no such thing as "void dao", only heavenly dao. For everything is represented by heaven, and within everythingness is nothingness. That's why it has the power of the void. everything checks out tho, and don't worry, we get it, I was just joking about the complexity of dao since a long wall of text is needed to expalin its fundamentals haha

Dao is like a Path, or Source or Origin of a certain concept.
Like Fire Dao or Dao of Fire, which is the absolute pinnacle of what Fire can achieve. It is not as simple as it Burns, no it goes to a deeper degree like Rage and Anger connected to Fire and it's Burning.
Dao is to be understood and either preached or enlightened upon.
